Cameron stared at his phone is disbelieve. Lilly was with Aaron, again, and on their way back to the apartments. She hadn’t spoke to him the entire time they were here and didn’t even want to say good bye to him. Anger and sadness fought each other inside him.
“Caaam.”
Anger won. He turned to see Courtney stumbling toward him, some of her make up washed off from sweat and her hair losing its curls. She had a goofy grin on her face and threw her arms around him.
“Take me home?” She giggled into his ear.
He wanted to leave her, tell her to f**k off. He didn’t, for fear someone would take advantage of her but he wasn’t going to take her to his place. He supported her with one arm and led her out of Medusa’s. An Uber was there shortly after he set it up, another college student taking advantage of those needing a sober driver.
She wouldn’t keep her hands off him. Caressing his chest, trying to kiss, and when he didn’t respond, she grabbed a handful of his junk. He growled and shoved her hand off him. Her face contorted and he thought she was trying to give him a sexy pout. It wasn’t working.
The Uber driver eventually pulled up, Cameron paid and thanked the man then dragged Courtney from the back seat. It felt as if she was resisting or playing some sort of game he didn’t know about.
“I can’t walk! Carry me!”
Her legs started to go limp and her weight leaned on him. He rolled his eyes and picked her up bridal-style.
“Why do you drink this much if you can’t handle it?”
“Shots are yummy.”
She threw herself into another fit of giggles and wrapped her arms around his neck. She buried her face in his neck and started kissing him.
“Stop, Courtney.” Irritation clear in his voice.
He tired to nudge her away with his chin but she refused. He entered the elevator, hoisting her up once inside. He felt her suck on his neck and flinched away.
“Seriously, stop it or I’ll drop you.”
“You’re no fun!” She rested her head on his shoulder. “Are we almost there?”
“Yea.”
Cameron carried her down the hall, eager to get rid of her. He dropped her to her feet and she stared in confusion at the door.
“This is my apartment.”
“Yea.”
A slow smile crossed her face and she unlocked it.
“We’ve never done it in my bed-”
“We’re not going to.” He snapped and turned around.
“Wha- Cam!”
“It’s Cameron.” He kept his pace up.
She caught up to him and clutched at his wrist. He noticed her stumble was gone and she was magically able to walk perfectly fine.
“Where are you going?” She pouted, pulling his arm back slightly and trying to rest her breasts in him.
“I told you, I’m done. I’m not f*****g you anymore.”
“Lilly won’t hear us at my place.”
“You don’t get it! We’re done! Whatever the hell you thought we were is over.”
She dropped his arm, her eyes narrowing into a furious scowl.
“Don’t text me for-”
“I won’t.” He started walking again.
“I mean it!”
“Good! So do I.”
He finally made it to the elevator and went down a floor. He sighed heavily and cracked his neck. Hopefully Jaxon was having a better night with the girl he took home. Cameron made it to his door, fumbled with the lock, and quietly shut it.
He kicked his shoes off and ran his fingers through his hair. Tonight was awful and all he wanted was Lilly. She always made things better. He wanted to lay in bed and cuddle like they had their first night. He wasn’t sure if she’d let him but only one way to find out.
He headed for her room, the door already open. He felt hopeful, maybe she had forgiven him. Or she had left it open on accident. Either way, he went into the dark room.
“Lilly?” His voice low.
He went over to her bed, unable to see a thing. He placed his palms on her covers and blindly searched for her. He kept expecting to graze the edge of her body, the anticipation killing him.
He never found her, her bed empty. His heart began pounding. He rushed to his room and threw on the light, half expecting her to be curled up in his bed like he had found her so many times in the past.
His was as empty as hers.
He grabbed his phone. Nothing from Lilly, Aaron’s message hanging in his thoughts. He said he was taking her back. He assumed he meant here.
Apparently, he meant his place.
