CHAPTER FIVE
~~The earth and the land refused to take my soul because my work here on earth is not over.~~
One of the sergeant beckon on the driver and the van started. I relaxed calmly, breath in lightly with my eye closed, my mind began to wander off only yo be interrupted by the two noisy sergeants who have started conversing and in turn led to an argument over football clubs meanwhile the female warder was already aslept, snored lightly.
The van continue to move, bump on potholes times without number hitting my head on the van body, seated for an hour thereabout and now my body was starting to ache me. I readjust myself only to bump onto one of the sergeant dozing off, the warder jolt up startled at the whole thing and before we say jack, the van was on speed, we had to hold on to the body. I squeeze my eye shut in fear, panic set in and I began to mutter quick prayers when I heard the multiple sound_the warder fell beside me.
My shoulder tensed and my eyes popped out frozen at the sight of blood oozing out of her brain and before I knew it, I screamed out frantically sobbing.
"Get down!" The fair skinned sergeant bellowed amidst the gunshot. I instantly did, scared of the dead corpse lying on the van helplessly, my lip began trembling. 'She is dead'
The van came to an halt after bumping into a big rock or something, because I could not see where or what was chasing us. The short sergeant open the van carefully on guard with his pistol c****d and ready to shoot, the fair skinned sergeant follow suit. The short one signal him to follow the left side while he moved to the right.
I alighted from the van, contemplating on what to do while the shooting continue and whoever was shooting at us will never spare them or me. I knew I had to run for my life. Different thoughts enamor me as I run for what I don't know, Elijah sango has the document already, why was he still after my life. I increase my pace running faster when I heard another gunshot and the voice of those men running behind me. Warm tears sprang from my eyes, I felt tired, hungry and weak from running. Maybe I should let them catch me and end my life, at least I would be at ease in the six feet and be happy in heaven with my mother and father.
Looked back, I saw no one coming after me, I stopped to catch my breath, panting and gasping heavily for air. I fell on the ground giving my knee away as it trembles, the forest was thick with grass and weed, birds soar round the sky and cricket chirp as loud as they can, the heat from the glaring sun penetrate my skin, palpitation set in and I suddenly became dizzy.
'Dunni get up, you need to run now!'
I jolt up from dozing, looked around.
"Mum?" I whispered to the forest. I must have heard wrong because she is dead, the dead don't talk according to the elders. That must have been the voices in my head, I relaxed back grunt and groaned from the pain aching my body.
'Run now!'
I opened my eyes slowly when this sound was sizzling near me. I shudder in fear, as it curl round my leg. 'Oh God' i calmly settled and fixed my gaze at it praying it doesn't bit me.
"This way!"
The voice of those assassins echoes through the forest and I lost balance. 'Ouch!' The damn snake bit me. I stood up, started running again as I held my left hand tight to prevent the venom from spreading. Who knows I might just die from the bite. They were close and in a matter of time, they would catch…my hand started trembling and my pupils were dilating fast, everything was becoming blur and my body was giving me away to die. I felt paralyzed and slumped down, I smile at the sun waiting for the angels to pick me up and truly this weird looking figure cover the blazing sun from my eyes and hauled me up.
______
He pointed the same brown kitchen knife at me laughing hysterically, his scars glows and his amber eyes shone in full rage. He was coming for me, step by step, intentionally and ready to stab me just like he did to her. Fear crippled me and I lost my footing because the ground held me in his abode and tossed me away to him to end me. Mum laid there helplessly in that cold floor. "Mum!"
I jolt up but fell back due to the aching pain, my blurry eyes slowly regained sight. I was not in the forest anymore but in a weird looking barn but small like a hut. I remembered, an angel or figure had picked me up to heaven I guessed_except this place does not look like…
"How are you feeling?" A husky voice broke my thought and I chuckled weakly, there's no way this voice is coming from my head.
"Stop…talking" I spoke faintly and close my eyes to sleep so that whatever voice in my head stopped and I should be in heaven.
"Stop what?" The voice sounded more masculine and real.
"Stop toiling my head" I replied.
"You must be hallucinating." He spoke again, this time I felt a rough hand on my temple, move to my neck and finally to checked my left hand.
Reality dawn on me, I remembered been bitten by that black snake, slowly, I opened my eyes staring at this black skinned hairy man, his eyes were daunty, wide nose, Brown lips and rough white scanty beard. He must be in his late fifties.
"Who are you?" My voice croaked at his sight.
"It is my pleasure, I suppose?" He returned to seat beside the entrance sounded peevish.
After been threatened to death must have forgotten my manners. "Thank you." I whispered.
"What was chasing you or what were you running from?" He asked relaxing and I could see his face more clearer as the candle flickered and glow brighter.
"Long story" I grumbled, still feeling sleepy, I guess whatever herb he gave me must be a strong medicine.
"Alright then, rest up and by tomorrow we can talk better." He turned to the other side to sleep.
