Chapter One
(Aurora's POV)
(Years Ago)
"3...2...1... Ready or not, here I come!!" I giggled as I ran into the forest. Playing our third round of hiding and seek. "Kiara? I found you!!"
"A-Aurora! Don't come any closer." Kiara yelled as I saw a giant black wolf and it charged at us. "AURORA!!!!! RUN!!!"
(Present Day)
I woke up from that nightmare of a memory. I've been having that dream for as long as I can remember. I wake up crying, sometimes screaming. The thing is that my nightmares aren't real. You wake up, and it all disappears, but for me, it wasn't a dream; it's a memory that I relive every time I fall asleep. That dream is my reality, and I was there when it happened. I lived it. It was all real.
"Here we are, honey, our new home." Dad says, "Aurora, why don't you go inside? The house has everything we need. Your mother and I need to take care of a few things first."
I nodded. I kissed my parents on the cheek as they went into their car to get a few things. I went to the new house and decided to explore the place. Welcome to our new home, a fresh start, a new beginning. Hopefully, nothing will happen, and I'll lead an everyday life and stop having these nightmares.
The house itself was very fancy; I guess that's what happens when you have wealthy parents. Finding my room wasn't that hard; I just had to open a few doors. I found a box on my bed with a note on it. My father had written it.
"My Northern Light, this box holds all your valuables, and I know you'd freak if this was missing during the move, so I had it carried to your room. Love you so much."
I opened the box and lifted a picture of Kiara and me. I took the picture and placed it on my desk. "I miss you so much, Kiara. I wish you were still here." I kissed my index and middle finger and touched Kiara's picture. She's in a better place now.
"Aurora, can you please come downstairs, please!" Mom called out to me, and I went to my parents, waiting for me in the living room.
"So, Aurora. What do you think of our new home?" My father shined a bright smile at me. I know he means well, but he is too optimistic.
"It's great, dad. I love it," I said. My mom was a little uncomfortable. Is she okay?
"I'm glad you like it because we will be staying here for a while. Your mother and I have a business trip to attend, meaning we need to leave tonight, and we won't be back until Sunday evening." Dad explained to me.
Are you kidding me? Leaving me again?! We just got here. I want to spend time with you as a family, you, mom, and me together as a family. Those thoughts were rushing into my head. Is this a sign that I'll forever be alone? Everyone I cared for has either died or left me, except my mom and dad. I don't want them to go. "But dad, we just got here."
"My Northern Light, you know how this business works. We can't just ignore it because we moved house." Dad said.
"Can I at least come with you?" I asked my father.
"We talked about this princess. You're not ready. Now tomorrow you will be starting your new school. You'll be enrolling in Avalon High. Your uniform is already folded and placed in your drawers, so make sure to get to bed on time." My father approached and hugged me. "We will see you on Sunday, your mother and I love you very much; never forget that." He kissed my cheek and left for the car. "Nicole, take all the time you need to say goodbye. I'll wait in the car, okay?"
"Of course, baby, thank you." my mom smiled at my father. My mom returned to her sad look when dad left. She is so upset, and I don't know why. I knew she didn't want to leave me, and I did not want her to go.
"I'll be fine, mom. I have been by myself plenty of times before," I said.
"I know that, sweetie, but we've just moved into a new place, and we are leaving you again." She put her coat on, "Do you remember how we were when your little sister was here?" I nodded. "Good."
There was a long moment of silence. "Mom, do you miss her?" I spoke, breaking the long silence.
My mom coughed, "I'll see you on Sunday, Aurora. I love you." My mother soon left. I looked out the window, and they drove off. I'll see them in a few days, I hope.
I only wish I could go back to how we were. My parents are gone, and I'm home alone. Again. I rolled my eyes at my thoughts. I put on my gym outfit as I wanted to go for a run to clear my mind; exercise is good for the soul. I might extend my run around the town and see my new domicile.
As I ran through town, I saw some of the sights this place offers. It's a charming place, a small town, smaller than the city. The air was crisp and fresh. The valleys and forests were beautiful, and this town is very peaceful. I soon found myself at the beach. Waves were crashing on the sand. I have wondered why the air smelled a little salty all of a sudden. I lay on the sand and looked at the crystal blue sky, my eyes grew heavy, and I fell into a deep sleep.
My eyes snapped open when I heard howling. What was that? I looked around in the bushes, and I saw a pair of glowing blue eyes. Oh, my god!!! What the hell was that thing? I ran as fast as I could through town and returned to my house, locked the front door, and locked the other doors and windows. I also closed all the windows. God, I was so lucky to have found my way home this fast. My heart was beating so fast, and I needed to calm down. You have a big day tomorrow, and you can't show up on the first day of school looking like s**t. I need to get some sleep and forget about what I just saw.
