CHAPTER ONE
CHAPTER 1 Some would say that there are fates worse than death but we too have a role to play in the outcome. You can accept what fate throws your way or you can change the timeline yourself. Life itself seemed to be my nemesis. I'm from a world where strength is the ultimate necessity for survival. My story started after the great war. The vampires and werewolf were great adversaries. The existence of the other could lead to the extinction of the other. Do the sort for a way to annihilate each other. The werewolves were at the advantage. They had made an immense execution of the vampires. The survivors went into exile to escape the claws of death. Although the war was over, the scars it left never healed. For some of us, our lives never went back the same. My name is Caitlin Jay. I was a child when the work happened. I came from the line of werewolves that are considered weak. There are other werewolves who are physically stronger than the rest and are called the warriors. We were considered the weakest of werewolves. None of our parents came back with them. Back then, they were involved in farming and other casual activities. This could be why they never survived. Their youngsters were about to regret their very existence. I happened to be caught in this unfortunate web. We were isolated from the pack. Treated like with no form of comparison whatsoever. We all were kept in an orphanage with no solicitude whatsoever. We were now fewer in number. Despite being under one alpha we were also subdivided into different packs and mine was about to go extinct. What made things easier was someone to talk to. Her name was Lily. She was also like me. One of the abandoned. We lived our childhood looking after each other. We did everything together and this kept us going. “Hey Catlin, have you noticed something about yourself? You look different. I can see it,” she said, being convinced deep down. “I don't know what you are talking about but I believe that we have suffered a lot and it won't be wrong if something good happens,” I replied with a slight smile. Lily was already twenty and hadn't been awakened. She was two years older than me but we were best of friends. Days turned into weeks and weeks into months. The amount of torment I received was meant to break me but I saw glimmers of hope to hang on to. Now, being eighteen and not yet awakened. This was said to be as a result of a weak and piddling bloodline. Unlike most of the jinxed foes, the other with stronger bloodlines had already awakened. some at ten before and and the others were already way older in age. I would always pray to the moon spirit to come to my aid when it seemed like the crushing flames of hell were released on me. unbearable pain and agony I had to endure had made me wonder if I was intentionally punished. Finally it seemed as if my prayers for the first time were actually heard. Before an awakening takes place, there are usually signs that must take place. while others were mild, some were severe. I couldn't wait for this change to happen so I could finally be free and take control of my life. For days the signs have been evident. A week to my awakening everything changed. It was as if I was dying but the other said it was normal to feel that way. One day I went alone. This was unusual because Lily was always with me but this time was different. I went into the forest to see the wonderful parts of nature. The skies were so full of light. I could see the stars all in harmony for one reason. To make that night special. The breeze passing through the forest against myself. Taking each piece of my soul, my experience is far from my consciousness. All I could think of was the peace and love I could feel around there. I felt like I've been there before, like I was part of it. I cared less. All I wanted to do was to live in the moment. Just then memories of the place flooded me. I saw two couples. They were holding a baby. Dancing together in the forest at that same spot I was. At first It came like images but when I closed my eyes and concentrated on what I felt. I could see it clearer as if I was there. They were dancing in that forest under the moon. What felt strange was that it was a vampire and a wolf. I have never heard of this before. It can't be possible. They both have been at war since almost forever. However what they felt was raw feelings for each other. I was quickly brought back to reality when I had someone coming into the woods. I was ready to defend myself. “Thank God you are safe,” Lily's voice pierced the few trees in front of me. She walked towards me with anxiety and happiness. “You got me worried. What were you thinking coming out here on your own? I could be dangerous out here,” she said, grabbing my hand. “I was drawn to this place and I wanted to know why. Guess what. I saw some visions of some people here with a baby and they were so happy and in love. It was like I was there,” but before I could continue I was stopped by Lily. Catlin, You already know what this is. “I do?” my expression was that of confusion. “This is merely one of your awakening signs,” Lily said. “but i felt so real like they were memories”. But before I could say anything else she stopped me. Lily can't you see that whatever you saw was not real. I mean, look at it,” she said with certainty. I guess you are right. It is the awakening of putting images in my head. Now there let's go back before we are hunted,” she said while holding my hand. We both walked back and forgot about that night. I only wanted to be free from all the horrors I have seen in this world. my awakening seemed to be my last hope and now it was finally here i couldn't wait for it to come. The day of my liberation was near. I was going to go away from the pack for good. After all, I was not going to be the first to do such. For wolves the only thing that mattered was your ability to hunt and once that was settled you can exist on your own. I had always had this feeling that wasn't part of the shadow pack. Perhaps, it was because of the cruelty of things towards me and my pack. During my Lycanthropic stage I usually had a glimpse of vision but it made no sense. I waved it off and didn't pay attention to it at all. One week towards my awakening I was doing my chores when words passed the Ronnie the next alpha of the pack was crossing. He barely left the shadow mountain. It was a weird shaped rock at the center of the territory. We've only heard stories but have never seen it ourselves. What would make the soon coming alpha take this route back home? I wonder with no propitious clue to my question. I came out to see him but i couldn't. I only saw his subordinates. They were the leaders of the other packs. They were known as Generals. Their body physique was incredible. They were all tall and huge. There was no doubt that they would possess strong traits. This wasn't my problem. In the pack, no one would want a weak mate and they could not actually settle for a reject. Being rejected was a curse and we were avoided as a plague. After what had seemed like ages, it was finally here, the awakening day. This was the first time to lycanthrope. I had only heard of it but I've never witnessed it myself.
