Chapter 9: The Royal Debut

The grand ballroom of the Bloodmoon Castle was a breathtaking sea of gold, crystal chandeliers, and dark velvet. Hundreds of high-ranking wolves, pack leaders, and noble elders filled the space. Their hushed conversations created a low hum against the polished marble floor. Yet, beneath the clinking of champagne glasses and the melody of violins, a heavy tension hung over the room. Everyone was waiting for one thing—the unveiling of Alpha Max’s secret heir. At the far end of the gallery, Elder Richard stood among a cluster of pack council members, his face dark with suppressed fury. Lady Freya was locked in her room under heavy guard, but Richard was determined to carry out their plan. He slid his hand into his coat pocket, his cold fingers brushing against a small, antique silver velvet box holding the sacred Silver Blade. "Are you certain the boy possesses a pure Alpha bloodline, Richard?" Alpha Roger of the Shadowfang Pack whispered, taking a sip of wine. "If the child turns out to be wolfless like his mother, presenting him tonight will be a disaster." Elder Richard sneered. "If the boy lacks a wolf, the council will demand his immediate removal from the succession. Max cannot override ancient law without risking civil war." Suddenly, the roaring blast of royal trumpets echoed from the balcony, plunging the massive ballroom into dead silence. The heavy double doors swung open. "Presenting His Majesty, Alpha King Max of the Bloodmoon Pack!" the herald’s voice boomed. "Accompanied by Lady Elena, and Master Jaxon Vance!" A collective gasp rippled through the crowd. Max stepped out first. He looked like an untouchable god of war in a tailored black suit embroidered with silver crests. His broad shoulders squared, and his dominant Alpha aura radiated outward—a quiet, deadly power that made every weak wolf instinctively lower their gaze. Beside him stood Elena. She wore a breathtaking gown of deep midnight-blue silk that cascaded down her frame like liquid moonlight. Her dark hair was swept up, revealing her delicate neck and sharp jawline. She did not carry herself like a banished, wolfless female. Her head was held high, her dark eyes calm and unyielding as she surveyed the sea of aristocrats below. And walking proudly between them, holding both Max and Elena’s hands, was Jaxon. The five-year-old boy wore a miniature version of Max’s suit. But it wasn't his clothing that made every elder freeze—it was his eyes. Jaxon’s electric blue eyes glowed with an unnaturally potent spark. As he looked down at the crowd, a subtle wave of raw Alpha pressure rippled outward from his small frame. The pressure was so distinct and pure that even Alpha Roger took an involuntary step backward in shock. "Goddess above..." Roger gasped, his glass trembling. "Look at those eyes. That pressure... it is an absolute Alpha bloodline!" Whispers erupted across the ballroom like wildfire. "He looks exactly like Alpha Max at that age!" "Look at that aura... a child so young, yet his pressure makes my wolf bow!" "Is his mother really the wolfless orphan who was thrown into the storm?" Elena felt the weight of hundreds of judgmental eyes on her, but she kept her grip firm on Jaxon’s hand. Beside her, Max shifted slightly, leaning closer until his broad shoulder brushed hers, subtly broadcasting a message to every male in the room: She is under my protection. Max led Elena and Jaxon down the grand marble staircase. The crowd parted like the Red Sea, bowing deeply as the royal family approached the throne. However, before Max could reach the stage, Elder Richard stepped forward, blocking their path with an arrogant smile. Several council members fell in step behind him. "My Lord," Richard announced loudly, ensuring his voice carried to every noble. "The council welcomes your return. However, as head of the council, I must bring up a crucial matter of royal tradition." Max’s eyes narrowed into slivers of lethal ice. "Speak quickly, Richard. You are interrupting my son’s feast." Richard pulled the antique silver box from his coat, opening it to reveal a gleaming dagger carved from pure silver and wolf-moon stone. "According to our ancient laws," Richard declared, his voice echoing loudly, "any heir born outside the territory to a female without a wolf must undergo the Silver Blade Blood Test before the council to prove his bloodline!" Gasps echoed through the room. Elena’s face drained of color. Her grip on Jaxon’s hand tightened so hard her knuckles turned white. "No," Elena spat out softly, stepping forward to shield Jaxon behind her skirt. "I will never let you cut my five-year-old child with a dark magic blade!" Richard smirked, deeply enjoying her panic. "If you refuse, Lady Elena, the child will be officially declared a half-breed bastard, forever stripped of his claim to the throne!" "How dare you call him that!" Elena hissed, her dark eyes blazing with fierce maternal fury. Before Richard could speak another word, a heavy, suffocating pressure slammed down onto the floor like a falling mountain. CRACK! The thick marble floor beneath Elder Richard’s boots cracked under the sheer force of Max’s royal command. Several weak elders behind Richard dropped heavily to their knees, clutching their chests as they gasped for air. Max took a slow, heavy step toward Richard, his massive frame blocking the elder from Elena and Jaxon completely. His icy blue eyes burned with a dark, murderous flame. "You dare bring out an ancient torture blade in front of my son?" Max’s voice vibrated through the stone walls—low, lethal, and dripping with dark promise. "You dare speak the word bastard in my presence?" Richard’s smirk vanished, replaced by a flash of paralyzing terror as Max’s hand shot out. Max gripped the elder by his throat, lifting his heavy body an inch off the floor. "M-My Lord..." Richard choked out, grabbing frantically at Max’s iron wrist. "It is... the ancient pack law—" "I am the law!" Max roared, his Alpha voice causing the glass chandeliers above to rattle violently. Max leaned in close to Richard's pale face, his voice dropping to a terrifying whisper. "My son's bloodline was proven the exact moment he walked into this hall. Look into his eyes, Richard. Look at his aura. If you ever threaten my son or his mother with your pathetic political games again... I will cut your throat with that very blade." Max snatched the silver box from Richard's hand and crushed the ancient metal dagger into useless dust within his bare fist, letting the silver powder fall to the floor like ash. He tossed Richard backward onto the floor. The elder scrambled away in absolute humiliation, unable to utter another word. Max turned back to face the entire ballroom, his long arm reaching out to wrap possessively around Elena’s waist, pulling her flush against his side while keeping Jaxon firmly at his right. "Listen to me, all of you!" Max declared, his booming voice echoing like thunder. "Jaxon Vance is the sole heir to the Bloodmoon Pack. And Elena is the mother of your future Alpha King. Anyone who disrespects them... answers directly to me!" A stunned silence held the ballroom for a single heartbeat—before Commander Caleb drew his heavy silver sword, raising it high into the air. "ALL HAIL THE YOUNG PRINCE! ALL HAIL LADY ELENA!" Caleb shouted. "ALL HAIL!" the warriors and nobles roared back in unison, their powerful voices thundering through the castle. Elena stood wrapped in Max’s warm, powerful embrace, her heart hammering wildly. She looked down at Jaxon, who was grinning brightly at the cheering crowd, and then up at Max, whose intense blue eyes were locked entirely on her face—filled with a dark, dangerous promise of redemption.
