A mere servant

"Ms. Wilson, it's a pleasure to meet you again.", Ava walked into the living room as soon as Jackson left.

Rita looked at her, she wasn’t getting good vibes from Ava and she wasn’t someone who like to play along just to please people after all she was the daughter of the Acker family and the beauty queen of Y city why would she be bothered about others mood.

“I’m sorry I don’t remember you. May I know who you are?”, Rita said in a casual way.

Ava raised her eyebrows, “Looks like Ms. Wilson has a bad memory. No worries I’ll remind you who I am.”, while saying it she went close to her and stood in front of her like Satan, “Looks like hideous lizard forgot her place but don’t worry I’ll remind you again” with saying this she picked up the teapot and was about to empty it on Rita's head, Rita acted quickly and grabbed her hand, and shoot sharp gaze at her, she stood up without letting her hand go, “What the h*ll you are trying to do?”. ‘A mere servant dares to bully me what a joke.’, Rita thought.

Ava wasn’t expecting her to act this way. The last time when Rita came here, Elder Madam Brown left her with Jackson so they can cultivate their feelings, but Jackson hated her, so he left after telling her his condition. When Ava saw that she was alone, she went to her, made fun of her appearance, and even emptied the whole teapot hot content on her head. Rita was a frightened kitty at that time and didn’t dare to dodge or make a fuss of it even when Elder Madam Brown asked how she stained herself with tea this badly, Ava lied that Rita tripped and, in an attempt, to grab something to prevent herself from falling she grabbed the tray and teapot landed on her head. Rita didn’t dare to deny and nodded but today this ugly creature dared to fight back.

Ava sneered, “What getting a little attention from Mr. Brown gave you the courage to fight back. Let me tell you something ugly toad you aren’t even capable to be a janitor at Brown Family Manor stop dreaming to be the hostess of the Brown Family.”.

Rita laughed but her expressions were deadly, “So, who is capable to be the Hostess you?”, sarcasm was evident in her tone.

Ava smiled proudly, “Of course I am” and grabbed the teapot by her other and continued with a sinister face, “Now please Let go”.

Rita smiled and let go of her hand, “Yeah you are right. A scumbag like Jackson Brown deserves a witch like you”.

Ava's face became gloomy, “You… Ah” but before she could say anything Rita slapped the teapot harder and because of sudden force the content of the teapot falls out on Ava.

“HOW DARE YOU?”, Ava became furious.

Rita innocently smiled, “I’m sorry I accidentally slap the teapot. I didn’t mean it.”.

“You…”, Ava grinds her teeth.

“What’s going on?”, Elder Madam Brown’s voice came from behind. Ava froze at her spot.

“Grandma, I really didn’t mean to spill the tea I was just standing up, but sister came in my way and I accidentally slap the teapot. I apologized to the sister, but she is still angry please tell her I am not that kind of person grandma.”, Rita said with wet eyes.

Ava was dumbfounded by her. She just can’t believe this naïve ugly toad has just framed her so perfectly.

“Ava why are you acting so impulsively even if Young mistress spilt the tea attentionally who gave you right to question her.”, the one who scolds Ava wasn’t Elder Madam Brown but Robert, he walked past Elder Madam Brown respectfully and stood in front of Ava and looked at her with a sharp gaze.   

Ava came back to her senses and lowered the fist that was about to hit Rita, “I… I am sorry butler Robert actually the tea spilt on me that I panicked and didn’t know what I was doing please forgive me.”, she apologized to him.

“You still don’t learn to behave. If you can’t even keep your nerve calm how you’ll be able to supervise the staff of Brown Family Manor.”, Robert didn’t buy her explanation.

“Sir, it was my mistake please don’t scold sister. I just want you to help me explain myself to her that’s it.”, Rita said in a soft voice.

Robert panicked when he heard her calling him ‘Sir’, he bowed to her respectfully and said, “Young mistress, we are here to serve you please call me Robert. And you don’t have to explain anything it was her mistake to act so harshly.”.

“But how can I call you by name you are of my grandpa’s age. How about I call you Uncle Robert?”, Rita said with naïve expressions.

“Young mistress”, Robert was sweating.

“It will work.”, Elder Madam Brown said and walked towards them and continued, As per the tea incident. Ava, I didn’t expect you to be this impulsive looks like your training wasn’t good enough. Robert, send her back to training and call a well-trained manager to replace her.”.

Ava’s face paled, she kneeled, “Elder Madam Brown I know I was wrong please forgive me this time I will never act harshly in future.”.

Elder Madam Brown didn’t even look at her, she grabbed Rita’s hand and started examining it, “This is Brown Family, not a fish market where we can avoid things to let the business run. If I remember correctly last time when Rita came tea spilt on her accidentally too. She didn’t blame you at that time. Did she?”. Elder Madam Brown’s voice was calm but had a cold aura that made Ava shiver.

Elder Madam Brown caressed Rita’s hair affectionately and continued, “She is a daughter of Wilson Family still her temper is so good that even after being soaked in hot tea she didn’t blame you who as a servant was vigilant enough to avoid accidents to happen. On the other hand, you as a servant failed to be attentive at your duty and got your self soaked in tea and even dare to attack my granddaughter-in-law. Do you still think you deserve to serve at Brown Family Manor.”.

Ava didn’t dare to open her mouth again, she sobbed and kept on kneeling. Seeing her not moving at all Robert pulled her with full force that made her groan in pain. He dragged her out of the living room.   

But before they can leave Rita stopped them, “Wait Uncle Robert.”.

Robert stopped in his trace and turned to listen to Rita, “Yes, young mistress”.

Rita looked at Elder Madam Brown with innocent eyes, “Grandma, please let sister Ava stay.”.

Elder Madam Brown was angry, but her tone was still soft, “My child you are young and innocent, people don’t appreciate your kindness and even try to harm you. You have to learn to be strong to tell them that you aren’t someone who they can bully.”.

Rita smiled, “Grandma, I understand what you are trying to teach but I want to give Sister Ava a chance. You just said I have to tell everyone that I am not someone they can bully but if you kept on protecting me won’t they say I rely on you to punish people. Won’t I become a useless young lady.”.

Elder Madam Brown smiled, “Dear if I won’t support you who else I will. You are the future hostess of Brown family I and Jackson will spoil you and coax you, after all, you are the one who will run the bloodline of Brown family.”.

“But still please grandma let her stay just this time if she made a mistake again, I will be the first person to punish her please.”, Rita made a cute face.

Elder Madam Brown smiled and said to Robert, “You heard your young mistress”.

Robert nodded politely, let go of Ava, “Yes, Elder Madam Brown.”.

Ava rubbed her sore wrist and bowed to Elder Madam Brown, “Thank you for giving me another chance Elder Madam Brown.”.

Elder Madam Brown raised her eyebrows, “You still haven’t learned your lesson, Ava. I think it would be better to make you in charge of the laundry department. So, you won’t embarrass Brown Family in front of guests.”.

Ava panicked, “No… No… I… I was about to thank Ri Young mistress after thanking you Elder Madam Brown.”.

“Robert informs John that Rita will join him in from tomorrow and call a well-trained Manager to take over her place. You both can leave now.”, Elder Madam Brown ordered.

Ava wanted to plead more but after receiving Elder Madam Brown’s order to leave she didn’t dare to stay for a single second.
