I made my way down the stairs. "Alarix, where are you going again?" Mother scolded.
"I'll be back soon," I muttered.
"Don't forget Lenora is coming tomorrow with her father for the official meeting." She mentioned, raising her brow at me.
I nodded and plastered a smile on my face. "I haven't forgotten. I will be there." I replied.
She nodded and turned her back on me. I rushed out of the door before she could continue questioning me. As soon as I stepped outside, I breathed out.
The smell of the human world is questionable... It burns my nose.
I walked aimlessly down the street. I was heading for the forest. I know where she is... I know what pack she's staying with. If I can get one look at her, I'll be satisfied. I can leave and let her get on with her life.
I sighed and shoved my hand through my hair as I remembered about tomorrow. Lenora is the daughter of another pureblood clan. My father made a deal with Lenora's father for her to be my beloved. The unity of Lenora and I will ensure war doesn't break out between either of our clans.
Purebloods are top of the chain, almost like royalty. We do have a royal vampire family... although they aren't seen often. They only come out when there is a dispute between clans.
I stopped as I reached the forest. I took a deep breath before racing through. I needed to get deep enough into the forest so I could see her.
I halted when I saw her stood on a balcony. She was stunning, even more, beautiful than I remembered. Her hair was brown, laying on her shoulder all twisted. Her eyes were a brown colour too but seemed darker than her hair. There was no sparkle or life in her eyes... She looked defeated.
My eyes roamed over her body. I sucked in a breath as I realised she was wearing my hoodie. She lifted the hoodie to her face and buried her nose into it. I groaned as I watched her inhale my scent and breath out, looking relaxed.
I had pushed forward and didn't even realise. My body was reacting to being this close to her. I could smell her; I don't think I've ever smelled something so enticing and sweet. I wanted to touch her; my fingers were itching to feel her smooth skin under my hands again.
She squinted into the forest. I watched as her eyes went wide. s**t, my eyes must have changed. I closed my eyes then opened them. I did it a few times, trying to get rid of the feeling she was giving me by staring straight at me. I knew she couldn't fully see me, but she knew I was here.
Fuck this... I need to get closer.
I dashed forward and stopped outside of a huge fence. I watched as she jumped off the balcony; my heart was in my throat.
I could hear her heartbeat; she was getting closer. It was like music to my ears... If my heart could beat, I think it would match hers right now.
I moved back, hiding behind a tree so I could look at her without us getting stuck in a f*****g stare off.
She stopped, and I saw her shoulder slump down. It was either because of the massive obstacle between us or because she couldn't see me.
She was feeling the pull of the bond. It was hurting her as it was me. I could see it in her face. f**k, being here wasn't good for either of us.
I could feel her wolf... I'm not sure how it was even possible, but I could. Her wolf has a kind soul; I could sense it. She doesn't deserve getting sucked into my cruel world... I don't deserve her.
I stepped to the side to leave but ended up standing right in front of her.
Fucking idiot...
My breath seized in my throat again as our eyes locked. She looked so sad, and I hated I was the reason for it. I'll look at her for a bit longer than I need to leave before she speaks. I don't want to hear her voice or know her name... I won't be able to leave otherwise.
I scanned my eyes over her body as I realised she was doing the same. I pressed my lips into a tight line as I felt my fangs protrude. I wanted to jump this fence and sink my fangs into her. I wanted to feed on her; I wanted f*****g everything with her. I took a deep breath before spinning on my heel.
"If you leave... Don't bother coming back, mate." She seethed.
Fuck my f*****g life.
Chapter 6
Alarix's POV
I couldn't move... I was rooted to the spot.
She has the voice of an angel... An angry angel, but even with the bitterness of her tone, I could hear the softness of voice. I wanted to hear what my name would sound like coming from her perfect lips.
"If you leave... You'll never find me again." She scoffed.
I clenched my fists in front of me, dragging in long breathes, trying to calm myself down. I wanted her to stop talking even though I needed to hear more of her voice. This f*****g bond is making me crazy.
"You know we were destined to be together by the prophecy... I know you know about it. The werewolves, the warlock and the vampire." She taunted.
She was baiting me, trying to get a rise out of me. All I could hear was the way she said vampire... almost like she's disgusted by me, but I know she's not... She's not afraid of me or repulsed by me; she wants me, I can feel it. Was there more to the prophecy that I don't know?
I spun around and raised my brow at her. "Well, that caught your attention." She smirked.
Fuck... She was feisty. Her eyes had a bit of life in them again... She was angry, and it was reflecting in her eyes. Black was swirling around, and I couldn't look away. She looked f*****g sexy.
"I'm leaving tomorrow. I'm going back home... With or without you." She placed her hand on her hip and glowered at me.
I should tell her to leave... Go home and don't come back, but the words won't leave my mouth. They are on the tip of my tongue, but the thought of telling her to go was too much to bear. I couldn't tell her to go without me, but I couldn't go with her... Could I?
"Where is home?" I questioned.
She sucked in a breath, and her eyes flashed black. I raised my brow at her and watched her as she stalked towards the fence. She was reacting to my voice... Knowing I make her feel, as she does me, made this hurt all the more.
"You feel the bond, don't you?" She breathed in as she got closer to the fence. If she doesn't stop, she's gonna get hurt from the electrical current. I kept my eyes fixed on her movements.
"Of course I do," I groaned. My body is aching for her. She's so close but yet, still so far.
"But it doesn't mean I'm going to give in to it," I continued as she raised her hand and pushed it through the fence carefully. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes.
"Take my hand," She whispered.
I frowned, tilting my head, staring at her open hand. I moved forward gradually and held my hand over hers. I was inches away from touching her, and I so badly wanted to.
I dragged in a deep, exasperated breath. If I do this, there is no going back. As soon as I touch her... I'm afraid I won't be able to leave her. No one else's touch will ever compare to hers. No one will ever be in the same league as her.
I want her more than I've ever wanted anything. I'm so close to saying to hell with the consequences and claiming her.
Could I really put her life in danger for my own selfish needs? I want her, but more importantly... I want her to be alive.
If my parents found out, they'd kill her. I don't know anything about werewolves... My parents describe them as the weaker species. She doesn't look like she'd back down from a fight, but I don't want to put her in harm's way at all.
My clan and Lenora's would attack, and I don't think they'd stand a chance. I don't want anyone to die because of my choices.
I'm so conflicted; I don't know what to do.
"Please," she whimpered, opening her eyes and staring at me. I never want to hear her make that sound again... It was raw and painful.
I sighed and dropped my hand over hers. The feelings racing through my body were incredible. I saw a glimmer of hope in her eyes and a little sparkle. I was glad for the obstacle in between us right now.
"I can see the conflict and confusion in your eyes. You're battling with something, I can tell." She murmured, gazing into my eyes.
"You're my mate... Whatever is going on, we can do it together." She muttered. "We wouldn't be paired together if we weren't right for each other." She sighed.
I wanted to believe her; I wanted to believe her so bad.
"I can't do this... I can't put you through what will happen if we do this." I whispered, barely audible. But I know she heard me... I saw hurt pass through her eyes.
She squeezed my hand and breathed out shakily. Her eyes were welling up, and I sucked in a breath. Please, for f**k sake, don't cry. I'm barely holding on here.
She withdrew her hand and stepped back. She crouched down, and a loud c***k sounded around us. I watched as she started twisting, and her arms were bending in ways no limbs should bend.
Shit... She's shifting.
I grunted and moved back until there was a good few feet between me and the fence.
I sprang forward, aiming for the fence. When I reached the fence, I bent down and sprang up. My hands immediately held on to the fence, causing the electricity to pulse through my body. I panted through the pain as I landed in front of her.
I had interrupted her shift. She was still in her human form, gaping at me. She rushed towards me, grabbing my hands and examining them.
"What did you do that for?" She shrieked.
"Were you not about to do the same thing?" I questioned, raising my brow.
She frowned at me. "Well, yes, but I would have been able to make that jump without actually touching the fence." She explained.
I gaped at her. "How?" I blurted.
She chuckled and shook her head. I groaned internally at the sound. She's f*****g perfect.
"I'm a warrior." She shrugged. "I've been trained to do the impossible," she chuckled.
I furrowed my brows at her and dropped my arms beside me. "You aren't weak at all." I drawled.
"I had the best teacher," She smirked. She took a deep breath and sighed.
"I am leaving tomorrow... I'm going back to England." She mentioned, glancing at the floor.
England?
My f*****g parents.
"Where in England?" I asked, trying to keep my tone neutral and calm.
"Devon." She replied.
A hiss slipped out before I could stop it. She raised her brow at me, and I shook my head.
"What are we doing?" She whispered.
I sighed. "I don't know... I don't know what to believe or think." I answered honestly.
She reached her hand up and placed it on my cheek. "Believe this..." She breathed.
I sucked in a breath as my fangs elongated, and I leaned into her touch. I didn't realise the bond between us would be this strong and feel this good.
