CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

Caroline POV

"HELLLOOOO, PLEASE TELL ME YOU CAN HEAR ME!!!! HEELLLLOOO" I hear Myia screaming in my head. "Yes, jeez I can hear you! Why are you yelling at me?" I ask, trying to open my eyes. "Oh, thank Goddess, I been trying to wake you for two days!" She says when I lay there shocked. Two day's? What the hell? "What do you mean two days?" I ask her, still trying to open my eyes. "Exactly what I just said! I was worried you would never wake up!" She tells me whinning. I could feel her anxiety bleeding into me. "I dont... unders-" I pause struggling trying to remember with all the events that took place."It was that Alpha" I whispered more to myself. "He.. he.. I tri-.. I tried to fight him off Myia. I tried. He injected us. I remember the burn.. then my body felt like it was floating. I couldn't link anyone. You were gone!" and I start to cry. Myia curled up in my mind trying to comfort me. "He will pay with his life" She said softly, when I hear a door open to the left of me and I try to open my eyes again and finally succeed only to shut them again really quickly.

I hear someone speak up "Oh good! You are awake." I look to sound of the voice. "How are you feeling?" She asked, when I open my mouth to speak it felt like I swallowed razors. My mouth felt like cotton and the only thing I even thought of was "Water", when I feel the bed move to a sitting position. "Mary, get me a glass of water please". When I hear another set of footsteps walk away only to return a moment later. I hear three sets of heartbeats. "Here is your water" the same voice said. I look back to the voice and open my eyes slightly and immediately close them back when I hear the curtains to the right of me being closed and the same voice spoke up. "Cut the lights Josie." When I hear the switch cut off. I take a deep breath and try again to open my eyes. My vision is still blurry, but at least it's no longer bright and painful. I see three fuzzy people. I look closest to me and can make out Dr. Mang. I'm unsure of the other two because they are a bit farther away. When she holds a cup of water in front of me. I immediately go to grab it when it almost slips out my hand and Dr. Mang manages to catch it before it could spill. "That's very normal sweety." She says as she helps me bring the straw to my mouth and I start to drink. The water was ice cold. I drank greedily and it felt so good on my raging throat when I hear the slurping noise letting me know I was at the now empty bottom. "How are you feeling now?" Dr. Mang asked. I swallowed before I spoke. "I'm okay." I tell her my voice coming out scratchy.

When I hear the door burst open and running footsteps when I feel squished in between two bodies. They came in so fast, I didn't have time to look when I smell my mom's rose and hazelnut scent and Liz's honey vanilla with a hint of pine and sandlewood. "Oh, my baby!" my mom gushes squeezing me so tight. "I can't breathe" I wheeze out. When I hear Dr. Mang giggle out and Liz and my mom let go just enough for me to breath. "Your awake" I hear my dad's voice and can barely make out his figure behind my mom when he reaches around to give me a hug. "Were so glad your okay princess" he says kissing my cheek. I'm just smiling at them, but wondering how I got here. I was going to ask when Craig came in the room with Sherri and came over. "I'm so glad to see your awake. How are you feeling?" He asks when I just shake my head that I was okay.

"I'm so happy to see everyone, but I'm .. I'm confused on how I.. you know.. how did I get here?" I ask wondering, when Craig clears his throat. "A visiting Alpha, Alpha Ryker saved you" he says looking at me with his hand rubbing the back of his kneck. "This is his Beta, Beta Logan." he puts his other hand on the guys shoulder and I hear Liz take a sharp intake of breath, when I look to her. My eyes are starting to focus now and I look her over and she is staring at the Beta with love in her eyes. My eyes catch a fresh mark upon her neck. I look back at the Beta, and see a fresh mark on his neck as well. "Is he your mate?" I ask barely above a whisper.

Liz gets off my bed to stand next to the man and he wraps his arm around her. I can see him more clearly. My vision getting better every minute that passes. "I'm so happy for you" I tell Liz, only to realize she will be leaving to go back with him to his pack and I'm starting to feel really sad that my best friend and sister will be leaving me soon. Myia whines in agreement. I swallow the lump forming in my throat and look to Craig and his eyes immediately soften. "I'm sorry" he blurts out when I look at him confused when he continues, "For leaving you with that Alpha-" I stop him with my hand silencing him. "It's not your fault Craig, I am safe and here, that's all that matters. He will be dealt with accordingly. Do not blame yourself. You had no knowledge of his intentions." I tell him when he leans down to give me a hug. We pull apart when I hear Beta Logan speak. "I'm going to go check on my Alpha, link me if you need me". He says looking to Liz with so much love in his eyes and he leaned down to kiss her forehead and walked out the door. "Where is he?" I ask when all eyes turn to me. "Who?" Craig asks when I say "Alpha Romero", when everything gets deathly quiet. I look at Craig waiting. Nothing. My stomach immediately goes in knots at everyone's silence.

"He isn't here, is he?" I ask a little harsher than intended. I look around the room, and everyone has the same expression of anger, fear, and sadness upon their faces.

Craig looks at me "He escaped from the dungeo-" I cut him off with a growl Myia coming forward, just as angry as I am now. "How?" I ask when my father steps forward and puts his hand in mine. "Lewey helped him. He is now rogue and him and Romero escaped our borders yesterday" he says softly. I'm trying to reel everything in. "Great, we're gone for two days and everything falls apart." Myia says shaking her head in disappointment. I couldn't agree more.
