CHAPTER 32: Aftermath
It was still dark when Selene and Caelen finally returned to the high council’s compound. Dawn had not yet broken and the first light was only beginning to tease the horizon. The cool air hung heavy between them quietly charged as they walked side by side through the shadowed courtyard and neither of them spoke a word.
What had happened between them in the forest still lingered.. too raw, too heavy and too confusing for words. Caelen walked her up to the side of the building before stopping with his hand brushing hers briefly.
“You should get some rest,” he said softly with his tone even, though his eyes said more.
Selene nodded once, avoiding his gaze.
“You too,” she murmured.
