Leon knew it was the end of him and Rebecca.
Of course, there had never been a beginning to him and Rebecca, nor a middle.
There was never a place in the life of a woman like Rebecca for a guy like Leon, but he had cherished every moment of their time together. It had been a fruitless adventure for the two of them through his tiny part of the nation’s archives. As long as she was showing up every day, there was hope for them both to find what they sought.
He had delayed her departure for several days, deliberately obscuring some of his treasures and sending them down rabbit holes. He loved being with her, in the bowels of his warehouse.
