Gail led the group into the hospital. Amber’s nose twitched at the smell of disinfectant and soap that wafted through the corridors. The scent grew stronger as they neared a ward with two guards outside the door. Gail gave them a weak smile as she shrugged her shoulders.
“I know it seems like overkill for five children, but as I said, there have been issues,” the nurse said as they stopped outside the door. “We need to ensure the children are safe. We don’t know if there are still members of that group we haven’t found yet. We don’t want someone coming into the hospital and trying to take them if they will not be adequately cared for.”
“You’re right,” Amber nodded as she looked at the others. “Guards should be placed at the door for everyone’s sake.”
