Zack POV
I saw Jannelle at the dog park. One of her favorite places to go when she needed to sit and think. It was strange that she was drawn there when she couldn’t even remember that. Jennelle are you alright? Please come home so we can talk, I said desperately. “Zack, I’m fine. It’s fine. You have a girlfriend. I just wish I knew before. That’s all.” she said as she waved me off. Jannelle, I do not have a girlfriend. I do not have a friend with benefits. Carmen is a sick and twisted skank that works at my office and is a member of my pack. That is all. Jannelle I swear. You have to believe me. I pleaded. Jannelle started fidgeting in her seat and looked over to Dr. Stephens who I just now realized was sitting with her. Dr. Stephens gave Jannelle a reassuring nod letting her know to trust me. Oh Thank Goddess I thought to myself. Jannelle stood up and said goodbye to Dr. Stephens. I reached for her to hug her but she walked past me and towards my house. I followed her close behind. Jannelle please trust me. I’d never hurt you especially like that. Jannelle nodded her head like she was thinking it over but didn’t speak. We finally got back to the house and I jogged ahead to open the door for her. She hesitated but stepped inside. Do you want to sit down? I can make you something to eat or get you a drink, I told her. “No, thank you.” she said as she wrapped her arms around herself. She was scared and trying to protect herself. Megan came out of her bedroom and rushed to hug her. “Jannelle are you ok babe?” “ I’m fine.” Jannelle replied coldly. “Jannelle, I will let Zack and you talk but I want you to know that Zack would never hurt you like that. He loves and adores you. That skank is a demented b***h. Nothing more.” Meg reassured her. I looked at Meg and silently thanked her. She knew what I was thinking. Meg gave Jannelle another squeeze and headed outside. Jannelle, princess, I began. I was trying to get her to look at me. When her eyes met mine, I asked, Do you believe me? Jannelle didn’t break eye contact. “I do.” she replied softly. I let out a breath I didn’t even realize I was holding. Thank you, I told her. “I remembered what Scott did.” she said as a tear rolled down her cheek. I’m sorry Jannelle. I’m not him. “I know but it reminded me of what happened the night I was hurt. I didn’t know what to do so I ran.” You don’t have to run from me. I will never do that to you. I moved closer to her on the couch and I prayed she wouldn’t move away. When she stayed still I started rubbing small circles on her back. She looked up into my eyes and I think she had another flashback. Jannelle? What are you thinking about? “I just remembered the day I was here and I was crying because Scott and I had a fight. He didn’t want a baby with me. He didn’t want anything from me. I remember feeling hurt but also angry. I couldn’t understand why I was paired with someone that was nothing like me. Someone who didn’t feel the same way I did.” She said. I pulled her into a hug. You are now, I said softly hoping she would return the hug. She did.
Unknown POV
Carmen stopped by Zacks; it was at the perfect time. Jannelle answered the door. I had to admit it was fun watching the pain in Jannelle’s eyes as Carmen told her she was sleeping with Zack. Ha! As if! My sweet Zack wouldn’t touch Carmen with a ten foot pole. He was too good for her. Too good for both of them. He would be mine. I just need to make sure both of those bitches are out of my way. When my phone rang it pulled me from that thought. “Where are you? We had plans to meet up and discuss the plan. How am I supposed to get Zack when that b***h Jannelle is living with him!?” Carmen shrieked into the phone. Calm down, everything is going according to plan. You planted the seed of doubt. We just need to water it. That’s all, I said as fake as I could. Carmen thought I was helping her to get Zack but really I was using her to push Jannelle out of the picture. She was the biggest obstacle. After Jannelle was gone I could easily dispose of Carmen. No one would even notice she was gone.
Jannelle POV
My head was racing. I had so many thoughts about everything that had just happened and the flashbacks I was having. I was deep in thought when Zack pulled his phone out and answered it and then handed it to me. “Jannelle, it’s for you baby, he said as he handed me the phone. Hello? I replied curiously. “Oh Jannelle sweetheart how are you? I heard about you and Scott and I just couldn’t believe it my sweet girl.” came from the voice I didn’t recognize. I’m fine thank you. I don’t mean to be rude but who is this? The voice on the other line scoffed and said, “ Jannelle dear it’s me Nora, Scott’s mother.” Oh I’m so sorry Nora, I had an accident a couple of weeks ago and I am suffering from amnesia. “Oh you poor darling. Scott didn’t mention that. He said you decided to leave him. He said you weren’t in love with him anymore. Please tell me this isn’t true.” she pleaded through the phone. I wasn’t really sure what to say. Zack gently grabbed my free hand to be supportive and let me know it was OK to share what I knew. Nora, some of my memories have come back to me and from what I remember, the night Scott and I broke up we were arguing. He had come home after being with another woman. I was prepared to forgive him but he packed my bags and told me I needed to move out. I became dizzy and tripped and fell into the coffee table hitting my head. I was in the hospital for a week and so far I have had a few memories come back to me. Some good and some not so good. I explained. “Oh my poor sweet girl. I am so sorry this happened to you. I had no idea. Scott showed up to dinner with some tramp Jessica and told us you ended things and he was meant to be with this hussy. I just couldn’t believe you would end it and I’m glad I called you. Scott thinks he is going to get this company; he has another thing coming! If he doesn’t win you back he is done for!” Nora raised her voice and stated firmly. Nora, I really appreciate your call but I think this is all for the best. I’m sorry because it does sound like we were really close and you seem wonderful. Scott is lucky to have you as a mother but I feel that Scott and I are over and are not meant to be. I firmly stated. “ I see. I can’t blame you dear. I do hope you keep in touch.” I absolutely will. I will hopefully be getting a new phone today and I will send you a text with the number so we can keep in touch. Is this number you called from the best number to reach you. She assured me it was. After we said our goodbyes I handed the phone back to Zack. “Did you mean everything you just told Nora?” he asked. I really did. I covered his hand with mine. I really want to give us a try. I leaned forward and gently pressed my lips to his. I could feel myself begin to relax as Zack’s hands came up and cupped my face. The kiss was gentle yet passionate. When he pulled away he whispered, “I love you Jannelle Vasco and someday I will imprint on you, and make you mine forever.” I’d like that I whispered back.
