{2} - Why?

I had barely made it out to the parking area when I felt him behind me.“WHY!?” he yelled at me. “Why?” I spun, “Why? You seriously have the nerve to ask me why? After I sat there and watched you marry another woman, who you claimed was your fated mate to hundreds of people here today, you are seriously asking me why?” I couldn’t help my self, even though I had tears flowing down my face, I began to laugh hysterically. When I was finally able to catch my breath, I looked up at him, and he seemed to be, angry? “Are you angry? Really? Why are you angry? You get your chosen now. The one you wanted everyone to believe was your fated. It’s ironic though really. I’ve spent my entire life suppressing my true nature, because my father and mother were afraid I was too dominate and too much for my mate, but here you are, the last Lycan heir, no wonder. I guess the Goddess knew what she was doing after all, making me an Alpha, and now it will serve no purpose!” His eyes grew wide at my last statement. “Yes, Mr. Vascase, I am a female Alpha. I have been trained my whole life to suppress it, trained to be the perfect mate, trained to force my wolf to submit, trained to force my wolf to be a Luna instead of an Alpha and it seems it was all for nothing. So you ask me why, hmmm, I wonder, maybe it’s because, now, it was all for nothing. You know, if I wouldn’t have rejected you before you marked her it would have weakened me. I would have lost part of myself, you would have taken that away from me, all because you wanted to PRETEND YOU FOUND YOUR TRUE MATE!” I yelled that last part at him. “ Well Mr. Vascase, your wish is granted, please accept the rejection now.” I said as I noticed his now wife coming up behind him “your new wife and mate await.“ I was ready to go home, the quicker he accepted the quicker I could get out of this place and the drama I knew was headed my way.

Standing here as the line of all of these people I have never seen before congratulate us I want to vomit. I can’t believe I’m doing this. My father left me no choice. Susie wasn’t bad, but she was really full of herself and she’s dumb as s**t, it’s hard to hold a conversation with her. She is beautiful though I’ll give her that. When the priest said we would be preforming the mating ceremony I could have ripped his throat out. I never agreed to that. My dad knew the rules, if I were to get caught by the council, I would lose everything. “What is that?” My wolf Kit piped up distracting me. “I’m not sure, but it’s amazing!” I had to clear my throat a few times and swallow the saliva that kept filling my mouth. “Kit, that couldn’t possibly be, could it?” I asked him, but before he could respond the couple in front of us began talking about how sacred fated mates are and how they shouldn’t be taken for granted and my gut clinches when I hear her voice. “ Yes, Mother and Father, you are most correct! Fated mates are sacred! Which is why you should never lie about them and you should cherish the true nature of them. “MATE KILLIAN, SHE IS OUR MATE” My wolf began going crazy in my head and I begin to panic. “KIT, THIS ISN’T GOOD” I tell him. “What do you mean, this is great!” “No man, we just got married, in front of her, and she thinks we’re about to mark another woman and I can feel the rage coming from her, can’t you?”. “Oh s**t Killian” He finally notices. She then begins my nightmare. “It is also why I could never have you as mine. I, Lilian Raen Shaw” “NO”I yell at her, “reject you, Killian Brian Vascase, as my mate and” “PLEASE NO, don’t, I can explain everything. Please don’t.” I yell again. “future Alpha.” She finishes. She did it, she really did it. The pain is immense. I grit my teeth as I feel a lightening bolt shoot thought my heart. I squeeze my eyes and feel the tears run down my face. I have no idea who all has seen and at this point I don’t even care. Why did she do this, why now, here, in front of everyone? When I can breathe again I open my eyes and she’s gone. I look around frantic and just see tail end of her dress as she rounds the corner towards the parking lot, I take off after her.

I catch up to her in the lot, “WHY?” I yell at her. I can understand her anger, but when she laughs, my anger begins to surface, she has no idea what I’ve gone through. Why I’ve had to suffer this farce of a wedding or any of it. Then the more I hear her explain the more I understand. I’m an i***t. Of course she wouldn’t want to be with me. I just made sure of that. Even if I did explain it to her, there’s no way to save face now. What have I done? When she yells at me about pretending and accepting her rejection, I miss the last part. I can’t get past her telling me to accept her rejection. I’m not sure if I can. “You don’t understand” I tell her. “I didn’t have a choice. This isn’t what I wanted, my father forced this on me!” I pled with her. I heard a gasp behind me, I turned to see Adri behind me, I’m not surprised, “Oh, come on Adri, you knew as well as I did, this was just contractual.” I snapped at her. “Yeah, but no one else was supposed to know!” she squealed at me. Goddess her voice annoyed me. Lilian looked so confused. “I can’t do this, just accept the damn rejection, PLEASE!” She was crying and it was breaking my heart. “I’m sorry, but I can’t.” I told her. She roared at me and honestly it was a bit intimidating, it actually put Adri on the ground. “Killian, you will accept this rejection, or so help me you will hunt me down screaming that you accept it. I’ve never been aloud to play and I believe I’m long over due don’t you think? By the time I’m done you’ll know how it feels to be the fool.” As she said this a trickle of fear snaked down my spine. She couldn’t mean what I thought she meant could she?

I didn’t know what was happening, my wolf was just as confused as I was. What did he mean? Before I realized it Lyla had taken over and shifted “Lyla what are you doing?” “I’m getting us the hell out of here! His lycan keeps trying to talk to me and it’s confusing I can’t take it!” she screams in my head. I hear him screaming at me to stop, to wait, to let him explain but I can’t, we have to get out of there, it’s all too much!

My family has finally come out to find out what’s going on and has started trying to link me but we shut them out. I can’t deal with them right now. We run and run until we make it to our lands and I finally make it to our place. The only place where we are able to breathe. No one else knows about this place but us, so we will be safe here for a little while.

I wake up with a start. Someone is here. “Hello my lil alpha brat.” “Dad?” “Didn’t think I knew about your little spot?” He chuckles at me. “I’ve always known dear, you’re my little brat, emphasis on the “MY”. Why didn’t you come to me or your mother when you realized he was your mate?” He asked me with a hurt look on his face. I’m not sure if I want to answer him honestly or continue to answer with what I think he would want to hear. NO, I can’t do that anymore, no more suppressing my self. “Can I be honest with you?” I ask him timidly. He looks surprised at my question “ Of course you can!” I stare at him for a moment and begin. “ I didn’t say anything because you and mom have always told me that my Fated Mate is my purpose. That my focus should always be on my Fated Alpha mate and my Luna training. That without him I would lose my purpose and weaken. In my mind since he was married and about to mate another woman, I then no longer had a mate and no longer had a purpose, so why would it matter.” My father’s face paled and a single tear fell as he understood what I was saying.
