Chapter 1
"This s**t again" Kaylin sighed from the kitchen where she heard her phone go off.
Jake was up to his usual nonsense. Kaylin met Jake a couple years ago through a mutual friend. Everything was great in the beginning but slowly started go bad.
Kaylin felt stuck and unappreciated and everything in between.
What a majority of people don't know is Jake is abusive mentally and emotionally, Kaylin doesn't know how to walk away or the resources.
She picked up the phone to call Jake, knowing exactly how the conversation was going to go.
It rang twice and she heard the all to familiar pissed of voice. "What?" snapped Jake. She didn't want this right now so she just played again.
"Whats wrong?" Kaylin proclaimed trying to defuse the situation and maybe she could turn the mood around.
Jake wasn't really paying attention to what she said but she didn't really care. As he went about his speal of what ever the hell is issue was this time.
He hung up as Kaylins phone rang and this time it was her boss wanting her to come in on her day off.
Earlier, she was convinced she wasn't going to answer but now with his attitude. She decided to. "Hello?" she said.
A familiar but chipper voice sounded through the speaker, "hey my favorite desk girl. Wanna pick up a shift? I had a call off."
Kaylin started laughing "well sense you asked so incredibly nice."
She didn't want to really, but she also didn't want to deal with his attitude all night either.
by the time she'd get home, he'd hopefully be a sleep. Or she hoped.
She called Jake and naturally no answer so she sent him a text.
"Hey Lex, just asked me if I'd work. I said yes. I'll see ya later. Love you." Send.
She walked in the doors, like life was perfect but if only they all knew.
Lex and few others did but they were hush about it and was there when Kaylin needed it.
Domestic situations are extremely hard to just up and walk away from.
She was happy she had them to confind in.
Kaylin walked up to the desk and began typing, as assistant branch manager she was constantly on her computer or something.
Today was different even though she still typed away, she was going to work the desk.
It was a slow day at the bank today, slower than the normal slow. As Kaylin was replying to the district manager, she heard and sweet but refreshing voice.
"Afternoon, I thought you were off." Mark exclaimed. Not wanting to give it away how excited he was to see her.
A chuckle swept from her lips. "I was supposed to be but everyone here calls off at the same time."
Kaylin finished up with Mark and she went back to typing on her computer.
Her phone vibrates and it's Jake.
They close up the bank, she scans the aisles getting the list that Jake texted her. She knew if she used the excuse she was tired she'd never hear the end of it, if Jake was even awake when she got home. She hoped he wouldn't be.
As she walked to her car, a couple of the ladies the worked at the store next door were all out side. They called her over where she felt obligated to go chat for a moment.
These ladies were a wild bunch, working retail made them this way. Working with the general public isn't for the weak.
They all stood around laughing and cutting up, Lex joined them and they started talking about how they all needed a night out. Kaylin couldn't agree more, with the way things were getting with Jake she didn't really care to have to be at the house for any amount of time.
One of the ladies Melinda, piped up and started talk about how hot Mark was. That instantly got Kaylins attention. She'd never admit it but Melinda was right, Mark was gorgeous. 6'2, light brown hair, chiseled jawline, fit but not steriod looking.
Kaylins mind began to wonder but she was snapped back to reality when "Well s**t speak of the devil himself." blurted out of Mel's mouth. Mel was truly a spit fire, middle aged and doesn't care what comes out of her mouth.
"Well if it isn't the star of our fantasies himself." Mel shouted. Kaylin turned about 30 shades of red because well she wasn't wrong.
Mark pulled up in the unmarked squad car, smiling. Something smart was about to emerge, Kaylin stayed quiet and giggled.
"Well this looks like a little sus with all you gals standing around. Should I be scared? Do I need back up from at least Mel."
Kaylin and the ladies said their goodbyes and they all went back to work or started to head off.
Kaylins engine roared and she went to pull off, she looked and saw Mark looking. She waved and smile then pulled out with out looking back.
