Nick stepped out of the lift car with a derisive smirk on his lips. “Hello, Sonara, nice to see you survived.”
Sonara used the plasma rifle to wave him to her left to stand against the wall. Nick did as directed but his eyes remained locked on hers. He was watching for an opening to jump her. Surely she’d been hurt in the blast; she’d just barely escaped death. As if to confirm his suspicions about her condition, Sonara’s right knee buckled slightly when she moved to her right as Siren exited the lift car and walked to stand beside Nick. Siren glared daggers at her sister.
Nick watched Sonara’s pale face become slick with perspiration and the hands gripping the rifle begin to tremble slightly.
