Tristan Harper Sage was the first son of the King Sage of Kladestine and the heir to their kingdom. He had always grown up this way, Tristan was never a rebel he always knew his place in the vampire world and acted accordingly. He had dark brown eyes, a serious resting face, bow shaped lips and perfect jawline, dark brown hairs which shone in sunlight and light beard which suited his face perfectly, veiny hands and fair skin.
He was everything a king should be, punctual, respectful, stood on his decisions firmly and valued his family a lot, his only passion was hunting in the forest. He wasn't really selfish but sometimes ended up doing things that could ruin everything. He was extremely restrained and never opened up to anyone about his problems or emotions, he had a habit of disappearing when he couldn't pretend anymore until he felt normal again. He wasn't the type to look for romance so his love life was the least of his concerns.
The Queen had died when he was just a teenager, he had spent all his years with his father observing and learning about the kingdom he had to rule one day, and with his little brother Austin. Austin was quite different from him, he had no interest in ruling the kingdom and following the rules, so he found and married the love of his life and decided to live separate from the castle and royalty with his wife and son. Both the brothers didn't talk much, just simply parted their ways in life.
Tristan spent the rest of his time hunting at night or with his friends. Even though he had a lot of company, he mainly spent his time with four of his friends Malcolm, Orville, Tyson and Abel. All five of them were friends since their childhood and were impeccable. They were sitting in Tristan's room and he had been convincing them to go to the forest with him since morning,
"Why do you want to go hunting now? When you've already spent your whole night in the forest" Malcolm asked
"We're not going there to hunt at this hour. Isn't it obvious?" Tristan replied
"Can you be a little more specific and a lot less annoying?" Orville said
"I need to look for a lost object" he said after taking a deep breath
"What object?", "What are you looking for?" Malcolm and Orville both asked
"My dagger"
"You've got plenty of them, just ask someone to bring them to you!" Abel replied frustratingly
"It's not just any common dagger, it's extremely rare, only one of its kind, we have to find it!" Tristan argued
"Oh please spare me! This man is going to be the king of this whole kingdom and he's crying over a dagger, who knows what is about to happen here!" Tyson said sarcastically
"Seriously, how are we going to search the whole forest for it?" Orville continued
"I'm not crying and we don't have to search the whole place. I remember having it the entire time I must have forgotten to pick it up from near the rock where I sat so we just have to look around there" Tristan explained
"What is so special about it? Malcolm asked
"My mother gave it to me before she died! So I'm going to find it and I don't want your help" He replied in a slightly raised voice and stood up to leave the room
"End of the argument boys, get up let's help our king find his precious dagger" Abel announced while getting up from the couch, the rest of them also got up slowly and picked their stuff
Tristan was already at the door when they caught up with him
"Calm down Sage" Malcolm put a hand on his shoulder
"I am calm".
They reached the forest,
"Where to now?" Orville asked but nobody answered and kept following the path Tristan led to. A lot of time had passed
"Where is this-" Orville was cut in mid sentence by tristan "This one" he said pointing at a big rock nearby
"Search the area around it"
"What does your dagger look like?" Tyson asked
"Silver, red ruby encrusted and size of my hand" Tristan gave a brief description, they kept looking for it in silence for some time until finally Malcolm spoke
"Sage we get how important that dagger is for you but we're vampires our eyes can see things from miles away, if none of us can find it it means it isn't here, this is clearly a waste of time"
"But I don't get it it is supposed to be around here somewhere" Tristan gave a desperate reply then sat down on the rock
"Somebody might've taken it" Abel suggested
"That is possible…did you hear anyone else in the forest near you at night Tristan? Tyson asked
"No it was very late and no one was around" he replied
"That means whoever took the dagger must've taken it in the morning after you left"
"Nobody knows that I hunt out here"
"Doesn't matter Who ever found the dagger first has it now" Abel said
"Why don't you just ask anyone around?" Tyson suggested
"Who do you reckon saw someone picking up a dagger from here?" Orville asked Tyson sarcastically
"Maybe someone who happens to pass by this place early in the morning?" Orville replied rolling his eyes
"Can you two stop bickering for a second? Look there's a knife throwing range very close by we should just ask the person who uses it" Abel spoke
"We'll have to wait till tomorrow morning to find out who it is"
"I guess it's the only good option we have" Malcolm agreed
"Fine" Tristan finally agreed
"Finally! Let's go back for now" Orville said
"You all can go I'll join you later"
"Where are you going?" Malcolm asked
"No where" Tristan replied and the rest understood that he didn't want company so they left.
Tristan went to the knife throwing range and started examining it, he looked at all the targets and the broken wood all around the place, the range wasn't great niether made professionally, it look as if somebody just made wooden targets and practiced roughly however when he looked at the targets each had been hit in perfect bullseye
"Whoever practices here is perfectly trained" he thought to himself, impressed, he pulled out his dagger and threw it at the farthest target, it was a perfect shot, he pulled out another dagger and threw it but this time he missed and hit the rope tied next to the target, the rope went loose and a series of moving targets made with rope and wood fell from above the trees
"Oh" he exclaimed in surprise even more intrigued than before,
"This is extremely impressive", after examining everything he tied the rope back to the tree where it was tied before and the targets disappeared from sight, he checked the time in his watch that he always wore and saw that it almost time for lunch, he turned around to leave and stopped right in his tracks after seeing the vampiress who was standing in his path, looking up and glaring at him with her big brown eyes.
