Chapter Five:
Ethan's POV:
It's been two days since I divorced Angelina Scott. Truth be told, my dad, Mr Austin Liam, wasn't aware of what I had just done.
My dad was actually the one who suggested that I go ahead with the contract marriage proposal and what had started as a contract marriage had just spiraled into something deeper than we had planned.
I sat in my office holding my favourite coffee mug that Angelina Scott had gotten me some six years ago.
The coffee was steaming hot, and just as I was about to take a sip, the door to my office was immediately opened causing me to almost spill my coffee.
“Hey, Jack Freeman, how are you doing today?” I immediately asked as soon as I spotted my best friend.
Jack Freeman didn't say anything at the moment as he walked right towards my table.
“I heard what happened to Angelina Scott or rather what you did to her!”
“Ethan, I'm really disappointed in you, I mean who the heck would divorce his day-one girl, especially after all that she had been through for you, Liam's group and your family?!”
“Ethan Liam, I'm your friend and I'm telling you that I'm very disappointed in you at the moment!”
“This is so appalling!” Jack Freeman added as he stared at me expecting a quick reply from me.
I slowly gazed at him and shook my head before looking away from his direction.
“I did what I had to do Jack, I had a choice, I played a dangerous game and I took the chance,” I muttered to myself but from the weird looks on Jack Freeman's face I could tell he heard exactly what I had just muttered to myself.
The situation was intense and palpable as Jack Freeman stared at me, his face was etched with anger and determination.
“Ethan, you really don't understand what you are doing, do you?!”
“That lady can actually go back to the Eastfall's city police department and tell them exactly what had gone down between the two of you!”
“Have you actually thought about that for a second?!”
“This is bullshit and it's all messed up!”
“I least expected you to be the one pulling off this crappy stuff!” Jack Freeman said as he shook his head in disbelief and anger.
Slowly I stood up and took the last sip of my coffee, I walked over to the window and pulled the window blinds open allowing the sunlight to enter into my office.
“Jack Freeman, I really appreciate you coming to my office to lecture me on how to handle my own relationship!”
“But you are forgetting one thing, Angelina Scott loves me so much and would never betray the love that we shared this past few years…”
“But it's okay when you betray her, divorce her and stab her in the back?!”
“Ethan, you couldn't even think of someone else to flirt with or bring in to replace Angelina Scott and you decided to bring in her rival!”
“Why her?!”
“Why Eva Scott?!”
“If I can recall your words at Liam's group conference, you specifically told me that you were going to wait for Angelina Scott to get back from prison…what really changed Ethan Liam?”
“Now what face do I have to deal with Angelina Scott given the fact that I too had convinced her to take the fall for you, Ethan Liam?!” Jack Freeman's voice was laced with a mixture of annoyance.
He had really been a good friend who had helped me achieve a lot in the business world.
“Jack, you wouldn't…” Before I could complete my sentence, Jack Freeman immediately stood up from the chair where he sat and sat and walked towards the door.
“There wouldn't be any need to explain any further, I'm out of here, call me whenever you are ready to throw that Eva Scott out and bring back the woman who had given up everything just to make sure you and your family company stay afloat!”
“Speaking of sacrifices, Ethan Liam, ask yourself, if Eva Scott was to be in Angelina Scott's shoes, would she be willing to give up everything just to see that you and your family company stay afloat?”
With that pressing and emotional question, Jack Freeman left my office with a loud bang on the door as he closed it violently.
Taking a deep breath I shook my head and stared at a picture of Angelina Scott that hung on my wall.
I was supposed to have taken this down but for some weird reasons, I still had it on my office wall.
As I made my way to take a closer look at the mini-framed picture of Angelina Scott, a slow knock came on my door. I immediately realized it was my secretary, Charlotte.
“Come on in,” I said without looking at the door.
The door was immediately opened and in walked my secretary, Charlotte.
“Sir, Mr Thompson and the board of trustees are waiting for you at the meeting venue. What should I tell them?” Charlotte immediately asked as she stared at me.
Taking a deep breath, I turned and gazed at Charlotte, “Tell them the meeting is off!”
“I will reschedule it and get across to each of them, for now, I have more important things to settle!”
“More important things to settle than to finalize the operation ZARs transaction?” My secretary, Charlotte asked as she stared at me in bewilderment.
“I'm really sorry for that.” She immediately apologized and bowed as I gave her a deadly gaze.
“Good, tell them I have rescheduled the meeting for next week, same time, same venue.”
With that said, Charlotte immediately left the office to deliver my message to Mr Thompson, the new director my dad just hired and the board of trustees.
As I made my way to sit down on my seat and properly articulate my thoughts, another knock came on my door.
This time it wasn't soft, before I could say a word, the door was immediately opened to reveal a lady dressed in a red daring gown.
“Eva, you didn't tell me you were coming to the office,” I asked as I gazed at the door.
