Chapter 14

831 Words
Leo looked around him in a daze; he knew where he was but felt like he wasn’t there. O’Neill immediately worried about Leo. He was terrified of losing more time with his son. Leo finally felt like he was fully in the room; he looked at his dad and wondered why his dad looked so gloomy. “Dad?” Leo asked softly. “Yes, son.” O’Neill answered immediately. “What is wrong with you? You look sad.” “I am just tired, I had a long day today.” O’Neilled offered an explanation. “Dad, don’t lie to me.” “You have been asleep for 12 hours, I'm worried.” O’Neill finally accepted. “You cannot keep doing that. I will be okay, and if I am not, you have to continue living.” Leo pleaded. O’Neill understood what his son was saying, it was easier said than done. O’Neill couldn’t help but think that Leo sounded wise beyond his years. He wondered why his son and Amira seemed like they were caught up in life. He wanted to ask him questions but he was not sure he was ready for the answers. “Leo, there is something I want to ask?” “Okay dad, ask me anything.” Leo answered. “I was thinking of inviting your old friends, like a welcome home party.” “Will you be inviting Amira?” Leo answered almost immediately. “Leo, Amira left the hospital three days ago.” “Well, call her family and ask them if they can let her come.” “She has no family, none that we know of.” “Where is she then, in an orphanage?” Leo asked hesitantly. “I don’t know, son, she ran away from the hospital.” O’Neill explained. “She ran away and no one stopped her?” Leo was furious, he had bonded with Amira and she was the one that had made him normal. “Dad, she could be in danger if you needed to…” “I know, son, I am still looking for her. I know she is your friend and I know you care about her.” O’Neill tried calming his son but Leo was not, taking any of his fathers answers he wanted to see Amira. He needed to get out of bed and protect her. In the abandoned building Amira had finally fallen asleep looking at the album she had found. She took a picture of a mother and her baby, who she assumed was Genesis, and put it on the nightstand. Amira was going to learn all about their relationship and she was going to imagine that the woman in the picture was her mother. Amira dreamt of a dark room with deep purple swirls painted on the wall. Something about the room felt familiar. As she tried to find the lightswitch she could hear someone knocking on the door. Amira’s dream felt real but she knew she was dreaming. Amira had dreamt a lot while she was in a coma. She could tell a dream from reality. Amira tried levitating in her dream and succeeded. Therefore, she recognized the moment as a dream. “Who is there?” Amira asked. “Genesis!” The voice said, she sounded just like herself. “I don’t know you,” Amira answered. “Why are you in my room?” The girl asked. “This is my room, I found it, it's mine.” Amira yelled at the voice. “Mom is looking for you, Amira, let her in.” The girl answered. “I will keep you in this dream until you let her in,” The girl Genesis said. “You are not real!” Amira yelled, shaking her body violently to wake herself up. After what felt like years, Amira woke up and she could still hear the girl's voice and laughter in her head. Last time Amira had checked the time and date at the hospital, she slowly walked out of the building in search of a newspaper stand. She dressed in clothes from the Genesis room. She found the stand and looked for the latest newspaper. She asked a passerby about the time and she determined that she had been in the building for four days. Amira caught the sound of a familiar voice and she frantically looked for the voice; once she located the voice she ran in the opposite direction. Amira did not hate the doctor; she was quite fond of him but she had better chances on her own than with strangers. She very much liked her new place, she could be found and kicked out at any moment, but for now she wanted to enjoy it. Amira made it to the small shed-like building that felt like home to her. She looked around to make sure no one had followed her, once she was convinced she had made her way in.
