Chapter 6

Doctor O'Neill had gone home and slept for almost fifteen hours for the first time in years. Amira had been awake for almost a week this time, and every time she woke up she was afraid that she had slept the years away. O'Neill could not shake the feeling that Amira looked familiar but he figured it was because he had known her for many years. However, there was a familiarity about her that he couldn't overlook. When O'Neill got home he felt light and in high spirits like he had not felt in a while, he wanted to take a bath and clean his apartment, which had been filled with research books and scholarly publications. He had spent the last eight years looking for a cure for his son. O'Neill wanted nothing more than for his son to be able to enjoy a life outside of the hospital running and doing normal teenage activities. He knew that his son was going to have a long road to recovery if he managed to stay awake for the remainder of his life. O'Neill finished cleaning all the books and went to sleep. He let the darkness take over and he prayed for answers regarding Amira and Leo's condition. He was not much of a religious person; he didn't believe in deities, but he was tired, it was more of a habit than an actual belief. He was in the dream realm navigating through a lucid dream when he saw a woman sitting by a creek. He did not approach her, he understood that he was dreaming and therefore everything in there would be a figment of his imagination. He continued walking and a second woman was soaking her feet in the water. He thought it odd that he was dreaming about random women, but he continued his walk. The place was peaceful and the river was glistening. "O'Neill old friend, will you not greet me?" The first woman he saw called out. "I cannot have a one-sided conversation with myself." He answered, using logic in his mind. "I am not an extension of you, love" "Yes you are, we both know that." "I am Lachesis, I am the reason you met Clarissa." "Clarissa?" O'Neill didn't know why he was dreaming of a Greek mythical Goddess but he welcomed the change. He had not had any good dreams since his son had fallen into a coma. Clarissa was O'Neill's love spark in college, but nothing more than a platonic love that never had a chance to be. She had beautiful red hair with light pale skin, she stood at 5'8" and always smelled like cedar wood. He asked her about it once and she told him it was her favorite perfume fragrance. Clarissa was devoted to her studies of ancient civilizations and history completely, yet they could talk for hours although there was not much in common. After graduation, Carissa left without saying where and he never heard from her again. He was not mad he understood that he and Clarissa were just friends and that their careers would take them on different paths. "Clarissa, Come here sweetie," Lachesis called to the woman that was soaking her feet. "Yes, Auntie" Clarissa looked up with her eyes wide in shock to see O'Neill in front of her. O'Neill had never forgotten those piercing green eyes and her radiant smile or her hair that flowed with the wind, making it look like her hair was in fact fire. O'Neill was confused; all the logic told him that he was dreaming, but Clarissa looked real and her expression upon seeing him was genuine. He could not help but laugh, he figured all those years of worry and sleepless nights had finally caught up to him. He had finally reached the day when his mind had left for a better place. Maybe he was in a coma like the kids, if this is what they experienced no wonder they were confused each time they woke up. "Where is Leo?" Clarissa asked. "Sleepin, he has been ill and has been in a coma on and off," O'Neill said. "Oh, that is impossible!" Clarissa said. "Why? Dreaming of you is impossible." He retorted. "You are not dreaming, you are in a realm between worlds beyond the sleep realm, beyond death," Clarissa explained, as if it was the most natural answer. "Lachesis, why is he here?" "I didn't summon him here." He looked around when he heard steps approaching them. There were two figures walking hand in hand they looked to be around sixteen or seventeen but they were too far to make out. O'Neill nearly collapsed when they came into view and became aware of Amira and Leo walking like lovers on an evening stroll. "Her twin flame," Lachesis said to them. "Genesis," Clarissa whispered. "Amira, Leo!" O'Neill tried calling out, but they did not notice them. "They are in the dream realm, they cannot hear you," Lachesis explained. "Now I understand why you are both here." She continued. What Lachesis had explained was that Clarissa was frozen in time and O'Neill was as well, but in a different way. While Clarissa was physically frozen in time, O'Neill was mentally frozen in time that's why they could see each other at a world crossroads. To Clarissa, it was evident that Lachesis was saying the truth, but to O'Neill, it was just crazy talk and he began wondering if he had, in fact, died in his apartment. "Why is my daughter in the dream realm? She is not allowed there, she is only five." "Your daughter? Amira is your daughter?" "Amira?" "That is the name she gave me, Amira Jensen." "No! They found her!" "Alright O'Neill, it is time to forget your time here," Lachesis said. She touched his forehead and he flinched in pain. "Clarissa, what did you do?" She asked, confused. "He needed to forget me, he needed to forget about my gift and promises. He needed to forget his promise, it was for his safety and the children," Clarissa said in a determined tone. "I cannot make him forget this. Only you can and your powers are blocked." "I can jumble his mind and make it seem like an unusual dream and whisper a convincing suggestion, but I cannot erase this memory. Lachesis suggested. "Ladies, I am still here", O'Neill interrupted. Clarissa walked up to him and kissed him deeply, triggering a feeling that he was sure he had felt before but could not remember where. Lachesis pressed his shoulders while Clarissa deepened the kiss and the world went into a swirl for O'Neill. He woke up in a sweat looking for his phone. Once he confirmed that he had not been asleep for days, he let out a breath of relief and almost immediately he started forgetting parts of his weird dream. He received a call from the hospital. Amira was having an emotional crisis and, at the same time his son was having a seizure, he needed to get to them as soon as possible.
