A big break
A grey Camry pulled into the compound. Inside were a man and a woman-Lila and Jean-clearly just returning from a party. Lila was the first to step out of the car, followed by Jean. They went inside, and it was immediately clear something was wrong. Lila looked visibly upset.
"Lila, are you okay?" Jean asked. "You've been acting strange since we left the party."
"I'm fine," she replied curtly.
Jean sighed. "Please, it's obvious something's bothering you. So let's just skip the foreplay and get straight to whatever I did wrong. I'm tired-it's been a really long day."
"You had a long day?!" she shot back, her voice rising.
They were falling into one of their long, familiar arguments. She looked beautiful even when she was angry-but Jean barely had time to admire her before Lila's sarcasm cut through the room.
"Oh, I'm sorry-I didn't realize. Did your boyfriend embarrass you at your friend's engagement party too?" she snapped.
"Embarrass you how?" he asked, confused.
But she didn't answer. Lila stormed out, leaving Jean alone in the living room, frustration hanging heavy in the air.
Jean sat down on the couch with his lips trembling “ Lila " He said as he walked to the room. He met her parking her things “ Hey hey, calm down , I thought you were staying over tonight "
“ I changed my mind" she said as she kept parking her clothes and the stuff she brought to his place “ Uber is on the way." She added casually
“ Lila tell me what I did wrong, all I remember was that we were dancing and having fun and the next thing you having issues with me ” Jean said looking confused
“ Don't pin this on me , I was having a good time at the party. Until you! decided to ruin it for me " Lila said after eyeing him . “ But how " Jean replied
“ It was an engagement party, a celebration of love " Lila said gesticulating. “ What exactly...." Jean couldn't finish before Lila interrupted him “ Tom asked when he was going to come to my own engagement party "
“ Lila come on, you know he was just joking"
“ Yes he was . Do you remember what you said in response ” she retorted
“ Yeah... I said... " Jean said with his hands on his neck, he really doesn't like where things are heading “ Let me remind you and I quote ‘ please we're only seeing each other for three months let's see what happens in three years' " she stated painstakingly.
“ This is ridiculous" said Jean. “ And it's not just that, you said it in front of everyone how am I supposed to believe you didn't mean it, that it was a joke " right now she looking so vicious and fierce. This matter has been so sensitive for her ,her parents,her friends are expecting at least a marriage mate for her “ I thought so " she added with a hiss . She kept parking her clothes and stuff
“ You are being ridiculous , Lila we've only been dating for three months, I mean we need to get to know each other, before......we think about marriage " He said matter of factly.
“ Four months" She corrected and she added saying “ and before that we are talking for a year , what more do you want to get to know about me. Huh !" Right now Lila is with an angry face . She isn't the type to leash out her anger any how unless her patience was hanging on a thin thread
“ We....we are acquittance , this whole dating thing is new to me now " Jean said .
“ There is one thing I have learnt about your gender is that you always know once you met a woman, you know whether you want to marry her or pass her " She replied tactfully like she has come up with a very big decision or she just hit a big realization.
“ You being ridiculous Lila "
“ Stop saying that ! Have you ever talked to me about marriage before Jean" They both sat down on the bed , they really wanted to understand each other . But it's seems impossible. Are they meant for each other? Who knows
Lila continued “ I'm 29 years old, casual dating was fun when I was 22 , but at this point of my life, I can't waste any more years with someone that isn't sure of where things will lead . Good bye Jean "
“ Come on Lila " Jean was pleading,he couldn't believe his ears right now
“ Wish you all the best " she added halfheartedly
“ You remember the trip I booked for Valentine Day it's in two days time and it's not refundable" Jean said
“ I don't care "
Jean was left all alone in his apartment, he kept thinking where has gotten it all wrong again. Besides his mum must not find out that he lost Lila this time.
