  Nate's POV   The hospital corridors were finally quiet, but my head was anything but. Machines hummed in the distance, footsteps echoed faintly down the hall, and somewhere, a nurse laughed softly — a sound that felt almost out of place after the long, brutal night.   My grandmother was stable for now. The doctor's words had been a relief, but only just. I wouldn't feel peace until I saw her open her eyes again and call me by the nickname she'd given me when I was a kid. My mother had gone home already, exhausted herself.
