Maddy's POV
I was unsure whether the click of my heels was too loud or the sound of my heart beating; either way, I felt every heavy step towards Nate's office door. He had been in there for over an hour at least, and my nerves were already sky high. He had called for me to come and speak to him, but I hadn't been able to detect whether he sounded happy or pissed off. I knew that this deal with the Everlys had meant a great deal to him, and I hoped my work had helped towards a good and positive outcome for Nate and the company.
I glanced back at Sarah, who gave me a thumbs-up and encouraging smile. She was my number one fan; I felt a small stab of guilt at the idea of hiding my fake relationship from her, as she thought it was the real deal.
