GOING BACK OUTSIDE THE WALLS

Countless horses rode back into the Great Walls, and behind where so many refugees. The town rejoiced on the arrival of the General after five years of living outside the walls.

“Great General Scout!!!!!.....”

“He’s our savior!!!!!.....”

“He’s the mighty one......”

They all sang praises of his name. But something caught their attention..... he was carrying a lad on his horse. Many thought it was a refugee child, they didn’t think too much.

General Scout was the right hand man of the king and his childhood friend, they grew up like brothers and the king trusted him with his life.

General Scout looked at the little lad one last time. “Remember what I told you” he said and the little lad nodded. “Good....wait here....”

Seeing his friend King Coles came down from his throne to hug him.

“Your Majesty.....” General Scout tried to break the hug and kneel but the king hold him tighter

“I’ve missed you dear friend..... I’ve seen your letter all through the years.....” the King broke the hug and smiled.

“I’ll love to go see my family and take a rest.....”

“Yes yes......you can have the week to yourself.......” the king approved immediately.

“And......the lad.....”

“I’ll take care of her....trust me.....”

“Thank you Your Majesty.....”

General Scout went outside and the lad was still waiting patiently where he left her. “Come here....” he said and she run towards him. He took her hands and led her into the castle.....the lad looked surprised as the enchanting view hit her eyes. It was too beautiful, she thought she was dreaming or even more dead. Her mouth were opened and her eyes refused a blink.

“Is this the lad?” The king asked with a simple smile

“Yes Your Majesty.....” General Scout responded. “Show your respect to the King....” he said but the little lad was still in her own world of fantasy until she felt a little push before she immediately bow her head.

“My name is Glint....Your Majesty....”

“Bless you child.....” the king signal the guards and they came in with some maids..... “they’ll take good care of you......” immediately he said that the little girl tightened her grips on the General.

“It’s okay......this is no longer the war ground. You are safe. We are all safe. You’ll stay here for a week.....I’ll come back for you...” General Scout said. Luckily she was always obedient, she immediately nodded and look at him gracefully before the followed the maids.

“Thank you Your Majesty.....” General Scout said

“You don’t have to thank me....she’s your child after all....that makes her my child....Go to your family and rest.....I’ll take care of her....”

General Scout left the palace. He stood at the front of his house. “Five years....” he sigh..... he opened the gate and his servants announced his name “The master is back!!!!”

“Dad!!!......”

“Daddy!!........”

“Dad......!!!!!”

Three children ran into his arms.

He remembered his wife was pregnant when he left. He looked at the little girl staring at him, he smiled and gave her a gift, it was an enchanting flower, it was rare and popular among kids these days.

It was a heartwarming reunion in the family. The kids where extremely excited and so was his wife.

The next day General Scout woke up early for his training and so did his 18years old son. They trained together and he taught him more moves. As they took their rest he said “I missed you a lot father”

“Me too son.....you’ve grown up so well into a man....you were only 13 when I left....” he said and Marvin smiled

“I practice everyday and night father. During this five years I’ve won all the swordsman tournaments, now I’m the best swordsman youth in all of Drahanam” he brag and Scout laughed proudly. “Soon I’ll be able to stand by your side in war....”

“Yes son, you are old enough now, I’ll talk with the king to recruit you with the knights....”

“Yes!!!! Thank you dad. I promise, I won’t let you down”

“That’s my reward for taking care of your mother.....but don’t you think you are old enough now....and you know we have always been close...”

“Yes father....”

“I wish to share a secret with you.....”

“What’s that father?” Marvin asked and Scout whispered something to his ears. Scout have always trained his son like a man with mature mind so when Marvin heard what his father said he could only frown and nod his head.

“I’ll want to meet her dad....”

“Good.....remember who I’ve train you to be.....it may be hard for the rest to accept but I know it will be easy for you because you are my son...”

Inside the palace the little girl was so pretty that she attracted all the maids. But there was a problem she refused to talk to anyone. She won’t even say a word or smile or even nod her head. They were all worried and sent message to the Queen. She hurried down with her daughter Princess Ariel who was 10years old. When they both saw her, her beautiful immediately enchanted them. She was so beautiful. Her dark eye balls looked at them sadly before looking away.

Everyone stood up and bow “Greetings to Her Royal Highness and to My lady” the maids where shocked to see the little girl still staring outside the window not bowing to the Queen. With her age she ought to have been taught, maybe it’s because she’s a refugee. The maids find it strange why she was brought to stay in the palace unlike other refugees.

“Little one....what’s your name?” The Queen asked but got no response. “You miss the General right?” Immediately she heard the General her eyes lite up. “So why don’t you tell me your name and I’ll invite him over to come see you....” she added. The little girl looked at her and her mouth open gently but it went shut again “it’s okay you can trust me. I’m a woman of my word”

She sigh “My name is Glint...” her tiny voice was even more beautiful. The Queen smiled “ok that’s a beautiful name. Come....this is my daughter...”

“I’m Princess Ariel....” she smiled. “You must be bored in here....you want to come outside and play with me?” She asked but the little girl shook her head.

The General came with his entire family to the palace. When the little lad saw Scout she hastily ran into his arms.

“Daddy who is this?” Frida asked. Frida was 5years old and the youngest of Scout kids. Frida was a jealous and possessive kid.

Scout ignored Frida and smiled “Hello.....”

The Queen walked in and they all bowed. The Queen and The Genrals wife were good friends.

“Glint has been a good girl....” she said

“How....? She told you her name?” Scout was surprised. He knew Glint would never tell anyone her name or even talk to anyone.

“She’s a girl? Wow....no wonder she’s so beautiful.....because of her low hair I almost mistook her for a boy....” Freddy said. She was 13years old and the second child of Scout.

“Let’s all have a seat....” the Queen said. They all took their seat. Mira, Scout’s wife find the little girl strange. She kept clinging to her husband. It’s not so good for Frida. Thanks for the ice cream and food on the table Frida didn’t notice.

Scout looked at the little girl again “what did I tell you about being clingy?”

“You left me alone.....I have to protect you” her sweet and tender voice came out. That was the longest words she have spoken since she arrived.

“You are safe here. We all are.....we are no longer outside the walls....”

“But.....”

“Eat. The food is getting cold.....” he said. “And you don’t talk while eating it’s bad....”

The little girl felt bad. Her father was behaving strange. First he asked her to stop calling her father for weeks....now he’s pushing her away. Glint was a smart kid as she finally understood. She looked at Mira and the children. The boy was just like her father and those two other girls looks like their mother.....even at that there was a slight resemblance to the General.

She just clocked 4years old.

“Glint why are you not eating your food. Why you don’t like it?” The Queen asked but Glint didn’t say anything she just kept looking at the General.

“Sorry your highness she’s quiet picky....” he said and glance at Glint who came down from the chair and walk away. He wanted to stand up and go after her.

“My lord....” Mira finally called “is something going on that I’m not aware of?” She asked

The king and the Queen broke the news to Mira. She felt so heartbroken. All these years she waited patiently for her husband only to find out that her own husband cheated on him and had another child. She composed herself till she got home.

“Mira.....I’m sorry.....it happened so fast r...”

“You’re sorry?! 5 years!!!!! 5 good years..... (sobbing) how could you do such a thing to me?..... who is her mother? How dare you bring her back?”

“Her mother died after giving birth to her.....”

“You should have left her there to die with her mother!”

“Mira!!!!!” Scout provoked “I know I messed up and I’m sorry.....but I’ll never abandon any of my children!”

“You’re so unbelievable! I’ll never accept that little thing! Keep her away from me and my kids!” She said and walk awake.

Back in the palace Glint woke up early as normal. The moon was still shining brightly though. She could hear the sounds of knights singing while warm up song... because she grew up in a war ground she was familiar with most of the knights. She run down to find them. She was not use to this new place of hers.

She managed to find her way. “Bruce!!!!!” Her tiny voice screamed as the started running towards the men. “Jay......Bentley.....”

The boys heard their names and turned to the familiar voice.

“Glint.....hey little fella....”

“Look how beautiful you are....”

“I’ve always been beautiful....” she smiled brightly. “I missed you!!” She pouted.

“We missed you more....” Bruce smiled “Want to train with us?”

“Yes!!! Yes!!! Yes!!!......”

General Scout came later to the training it was already 9am. He sighted the knights surrounded something, they where so busy watching that they didn’t even know he was curious. He walk towards them only to find Glint showing her swordsmanship skill. Being brought up in a war ground, Glint was a better fighter than some knights. Though she was personally trained by her father and some well powerful knights, she still have her own special skills at the age of 4.

Glint was shocked when she saw her father and immediately put the sword away.

“What did I tell you about fighting before we got here?” His eyes carried hint of anger

“I.....I was just....”

“JUST WHAT!!!!!!” He yelled as his face darkened even more. He walked towards her and yelled “are you going to be this disrespectful? If you’re going to be this disrespectful then go back to the walls!!!!!”

“General?.....” Bruce called

“Fa.....father......”

“IN THIS WALLS I AM YOUR GENERAL NOT YOUR FATHER!” His cold and harsh words broke little Glint as she ran off. All the knights where shocked. “What are you all looking at!!!!! Back to training!!!!”

Glint ran away from the palace and found herself in a very busy place. “I want to go back outside the walls.....I don’t like it here...” she murmured. Just as she was about to take another step a hand grab her “Hey little girl....”

Glint frown “what do you want?”

“Oh she’s pretty.....” the other man hit him

“Don’t mind him.....I heard you say something about the walls....”

“Yes....I want to leave this place. I’m going outside the walls.....” her boldness take them unaware.

“Uhmm.....do you know the way?” He asked but the little girl shock her head.

“We can take you there.....for free....”

“Really?” Her eyes lightened

“Yes.....we live there....”

Glint frown “you live outside the walls, then how come I have never seen you before? Are you lying to me?” The pretty girl frown deeper

“No no.....hehehe....out there in the wells it’s really big....well if you don’t believe us you can just forget it......”

“No wait.....I’ll go with you....My father doesn’t want me anyways......”

After the training Bruce walked up to the General.

“She’s just 4 years old remember? You’re too much!” He said angrily before leaving. Scout sigh.....things was too much for him..... he walked back to the palace.

“General....how may I help you?” The chief maids notice his presence.

“I’m here to see my daughter....” he said and the other maids were shocked but the chief maid knew all along.

“You two go get her maids to bring her....”

General scout waited for sometime. The maids came back panicking.....

“What’s wrong?” The chief maid asked

“My lady.....Glint’s maids said....they.....they.....”

“SPEAK!!!!!!!”

“My lord.......All her maids have been busy searching for her in the palace for sometime now....she’s nowhere to be found......”

“What?!!!!!!!!”

The two maids responsible for Glint care were both kneeling down.

“We deserve to die your Majesty” they both cried

“You have one job!!!! Take care of a little girl!!!!! Guards....!!!! Go lock them up!!!!” The Queen was angry

“No.....” General Scout cut in, he knew his daughter well..... It was his fault to begin with “I’ll arrange a search party for her myself......she’s far away from the palace....”

“What? She’s so little?!” The Queen panicked

“Little?” General chuckled “it’s like you don’t know my little girl...... it’s not the fault of these two.... it’s my fault. I neglected my duties as a father and cause her hurt. My King.....give me your order, I’ll like to personally go find my daughter....”

“My friend, you don’t need my order.....go find your daughter and bring her home.....”

After a whole day search, there was no trace of her. “That little girl is smarter than all of us.....” Bruce cut in. General Scout was lost in his thought, he remembered when he first hold her in his hands and promised her mother to take good care of her before she died. Glint was no ordinary child.

“Child, where are you?” He murmured

Glint opened her eyes and viewed her environment. She saw other kids crying beside her. She immediately stood up and her head hit the top of the wagon. One of the older girls rush to her side “are you okay? Are you hurt?” She asked, Glint frowned and didn’t understand what was happening but her body keeps giving her feelings that’s not so good.

“Poor girl.....I know you are scared....these men kidn*pped most of us and sell us for money.....” she wept.

“Traitors!!!!” Glint little voice screamed “You betrayed me!!!” Her little hands hit the wagon.

The men seems to hear her and they burst into laughter.

“She’ll cost a fortune and telling you....” they burst into laughter again

“You bozo!!!! Do you know who my father is?” She yelled

“The king?” The man asked and they all burst into laughter again.

“You’ll regret this!!!!!....”

Glint was calm while kids that were older than her kept crying. She signal them to come together which they did.

“I can get us out of here.....”

The men stopped the wagon and fed there horses.... “we’ll camp here tonight.....we’ll continue our journey tomorrow.....”

Glint heard them and smiled. After making sure they have slept she had learnt a lot from the knights she grew up with. She skillfully unlocked the padlock and came out of the wagon. The kids did as they were told, they just stayed inside and waited for Glint to do as she wishes, they knew what these men does to kids who tried to run away, they were equally afraid for their lives.

It was like a dream. In no time the little girl chained the three men together and tied their mouths.

“Come....we need to carry them into the wagon....” Glint said but the kids hesitate before stepping out of the wagon.

While they tried to drag the three man into the wagon. Glint was the youngest but holds the leadership power.

General Scout felt bad, they’ve searched the entire kingdom no one saw her.

“It’s okay, we’ll find her...”

“I’m a terrible father. Glint must have gone back to the wild...”

“On her own? No way.....You know kids they are good at hiding....” the Queen added

“Your highness, Glint is not an ordinary kid.....the General is right....she must have gone back outside the walls.......” Bruce said as he glared at Scout.

“We can’t be sure....” the King cut in “I’ll send words to our neighboring kingdoms......”

“Your highness I know my daughter...... Bruce is right......I have to go to the wild......”
