Mythos

The rain was pelting the window, making it hard to see outside. Water was running down the window washing the winter away. I sat by my desk drinking my coffee ignoring the emails that have been coming in about next weeks project. It was almost 5pm, almost time to go home for the weekend. Hopefully the rain will stop by tonight. It has been raining for about 3 days now, but checking the weather i saw it would stop by 10 pm tonight, and it will be nice and sunny tomorrow. I haven't gone on my daily hike because of the rain. Working for real state is kind of hard at times, trying to sell a house and remodeled it, making sure everything is up to date. But now we have a new costumer that brought a land, and wants to make a 3-story house, this project will take a year plus. They have chosen tiles and what they want in each room section, these people got lots of money my boss is very excited about this project. There are 3 houses that i need to have shown next week, plus the meeting about the new house to be built will be next week as well. I am so cramped. I really need this hike tomorrow. I need to breath in the air and relax. "Hey Athena, Your mother is on line 3." Briana says. Briana is 5 years older than me, she has short brown hair that she straightens every day, you can see the heat damage and the split ends. She has 3 kids, and still does her best to stay in shape. I keep asking her to go on a hike with me, but always makes excuses. I hate her husband, he never helps her and drinks his life away all the while she works, cooks, cleans and takes care of her husband and 3 children. I feel bad for her. I wonder when she'll leave him? "Thank you." I inhale and exhale before answering my mother, its never really fun talking to her. "Hello." I say. "Athena finally you answer." My mother says. Everyone say i look like her, strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. But i have my father lips and small nose. When my mother was in high school she was the head cheerleader and always did pageants. She then tried to force me into all of that. I never liked it, i wanted to be like dad. He would work in construction and would create the most divine houses and sell them, so we would always had money. "What is it mother?" "Oh i just wanted to check up on you, you never answer your phone. I mean whats the point of having a phone if you never answer it." My mother nags. "I am busy mother." "What about after work? Does your phone shut off?" I breath in and breath out. "Why are you calling me?" "I am having a birthday lunch for your father tomorrow." s**t my dads birthday. "Or did you forget about your dad's birthday?" "No! I didnt i already have a gift for him." I lied. "Ok well ill see you tomorrow." "Ok mom, ill see you tomorrow." I hang up and put my head on the desk. How could i forget my dads birthday? I have been so damn f*****g busy that i forgot. "Hey you seem stressed." I hear. I lift myself up and see Liam standing in the doorway of my small yet spacious office. "Yeah." I say. He smiles he brighten dimply smile. He is the office hottie as Bree says. He always smells delicious. "Want me to come over tonight?" Liam asks. Liam and I sometimes go out to have a couple of drunks, i just wish we would have s*x already, i am tired of him leaving and me having to use my vibrator. I drive the 15 minutes to my apartment. I walk into the apartment building and bump into Mrs. Granger from the first floor. She is an older woman who refuses to go into a retirement home, says she is never going into that death trap. "Athena! Will you please be a dear and grab that for me." Mrs. Granger says. I look to where i am pointing and see the can of soup on the floor. I pick it up and hand it to her. She stretches out her trembling hand and takes it from me. Mrs. Grangers husband died 4 years ago, i met him before he was hospitalized. He was sweet to her, even though he was too weak to even lift his arms he would always try to make her smile. I stood by Mrs. Granger after her husband passed, helped her around her house, and with groceries. I clean her place every once in a while, and every time i get groceries i get her some too. I have brought up retirement home, but she gets so mad. I worry for her, she doesn't really have any family members to call her or check up on her, her son passed away at a young age and her husband family passed long ago, Mrs. Granger was an only child so she also doesn't have anyone. It breaks my heart really. My mom does send her food as well as i have spoken out loud how much i care for Mrs. Granger and the agencies that are always surrounding Mrs. Granger as hawks trying to get her into one of their homes always call me. "Did you have a long day at work?" Mrs. Granger asks. "We are busy next week, there's lots to do." I say. "Why is that?" "There's a new family moving in, so we are building them a new house." I say. "Ah ok." Mrs. Granger smiles and begins to head inside. "Are you making some soup?" I ask her. "No i already have some, i just saw that can of soup on the floor." Mrs. Granger laughs. "Thats someone else's soup?" I ask her. "Finder's keepers!" Mrs. Granger says. I laugh as she heads into her apartment and then take my elevator and head into mine. My apartment is nice and small, it's a one bedroom with an extra small room, that's where i keep my computer and desk. My living room is nice and spacious, everything is pink and white. Except for my kitchen, which is light violet colors and flowers. I have a small round dining table with a small fake sunflower. My bedroom has a full-size comfortable bed to help with my back. On the Coner of the room threes a small white vanity table with lights around the mirror for my makeup. On the other side where the window is there's a tall dresser on the conner with a tv on top. And then upon walking in there's a walk-in closet to the left. I drop my body on the couch and lay there for a minute or two. I need to go and get my dad a gift, but i don't know if i should do that now or wake up early and go. I like option 2 but i want to sleep in. yet i can't. I need to drive 30 minutes into the city and then find a good store maybe even the mall, meaning i need to get dressed early for the occasion. Its 5:30 pm now, i should just go and that way i can eat some diner, and don't have to go through all of that hassle of waking up early and being rushed. I grab my things and head out the door. I walk out into the quiet hallway and head into the elevator. Once i am on the ground floor i walk outside and get into my white 2017 Toyota Camry. I turn on my favorite playlist and go on the way. I think of what to get my father. He has it all. But what does he not have? It's hard shopping for a man that never asks for anything and has it all. Once i reach the mall i head into every department that has a section for men. I get him 3 casual button-down shirts. I get him a Bulova modern watch, and a brand-new whiskey set. He does love his whiskey. I am happy with what i got him, i then head to the food court and decide why not break the diet for once and get a cheesy pizza. "Athena?" I look up to see Nari Ha my old college friend. She brushes her black hair back behind her ear and smiles at me. "Hey, it's been so long, where have you been?" I am so happy to see her. "I just got back from Korea, it's so great to see you, it's been what 3 years?" Nira asks. "Yes, it's been so long." Nira sits in front of me and smiles. "What have you been up to?" Nira asks. "I got into real estate. I have been working there for 2 years now. I am now working on becoming a real estate attorney." "Wow that's amazing! And who are you shopping for?" Nira smiles at the bags. "Oh, they are for my dad, it's his birthday tomorrow." I say. "Ah so nobody in your life? What happened to James?" Nira asks. "Oh, it didn't work out, and no i haven't been looking." I say. "Why not?" Nira asks. "Well i don't know." "Ah so there's someone." Nira smiles. "Well." "Tell me who is it?" Nira leans in smiling, it's like back in college. Like she never left and i got a job. "His name is Liam but it's complicated, we haven't done anything yet, but we only hang out." We sit back and relaxed talking like we used to. I sit down and remember our college days. Its been so long. I miss it. We talked until everyone began to close the stores. We then got up and headed outside. "It was so great to catch up with you." Nira says as she begins to walk the oposite way. "We should hang out again." That would sound great. "Yes, uh how about tomorrow?" "I am free tomorrow, what time?" Nira asks as she looks at her phone. I have the birthday lunch and then the much-needed hike. Could take 3 hours maybe. "How about around 6pm?" "Does 6:30 sound good?" Nira asks. "Yes perfect!" I say. "It was so good to catch you here Athena, see you tomorrow." Nira waves back and smiles she then heads her way. I walk up to my car and head home. Once home i find gifts bags and put my dad's gift in them. I finish up and head into the bathroom, i take everything off revealing my naked body in the mirror. My boobs are firm for a 38 C cup. I finish it off with small gold earring and a small gold necklace. As i head out the door my phone rings, mom once again. "What?" "Are you on the way its almost 11." "Yes i am on the way." I hang up the phone and leave. My phone rings again. "Hello." "Hey its me Nira, i see you still havent changed your number." Nira says. "No." I laugh. "I cant bring myself to." "Hey do you mind if i change the plans for tomorrow?" Nira asks. "Yeah no problem." "I am sorry, about it my mom needs me to help with some family matter." Nira explains. "Dont worry i am available tomorrow." "Great see you then." I hang up and then drive all the way to moms, which is a good 20 minutes. I park on the side of the road as they are many cars parked in the parking area. I grab the presents and head inside the 2-story home. It has a large widwo tree which still has a swing on it. I used to swing on that for hours when i was little. The garden has little flower buds on it, the flowers should be blooming soon. I open the door and walk in. I see moms sister aunt Jenna with her kids. Leslie who is 15 and Jessica who just turned 19, a month ago. Aunt Jenna's husband Michael sitting with my dads brother Ed. Ed's wife Lisa is sitting with mom. Dad's friedns and their wives are here too. "Athena!" Leslie calls out when she sees me. Dad comes out of the hallway and stretches his arms to me. Dad's dark hair has turned almost white now and his beer gut has gotten bigger in a good way. He walks to me and elgulfs me in a tight hug. "Happy birthday daddy." I say. "Thank you sweetie." Dad says. "Here i got you a present." "Oh you didnt have to, just you being here is enough for me." Dad says. Dad and I walk to the kitchen, he puts the gifts on the counter. "Athena you look nice in that dress." Mom says. "You should suck in a little, seems like you been gaining some weight." There it is. "Leave her alone Katie." Dad says. "She looks good." I smile at dad. "Oh Athena allow me to present Emma and her husband Paul." Mom points at a lady who looks to be in her 50's her hair is nicely picked up in a bun. She has wrinkles around her baby blue eyes, her husband Paul seems a lot older than her. His hair is completely white, his face has began to age. he has a mustache that still has dark hairs. "Hello." I say. "And thats their son Gabriel." Mom points at a man standing by the fireplace in the back living room. He is tall with brown ashy hair. He has a clean shaven look. "Gabriel come say hi to my daughter." Mom calls out. Gabriel looks at us and excuses himself from the others in the room. He then makes his way to us. "Gabriel this is my daughter Athena, the one i was telling you about. She works forreal estate." Mom says proudly. "Hi." Gabriel takes my hand and shakes it. "Hello nice to meet you." I say. "Gabriel here is single and works at an office job." Mom says. I then look at her. For f***s sake. She is trying to set me up again. "Thats nice." I say and then walk off. "Athena?" Mom calls out after me. "Jesus Katie would you stop setting her up." Dad says to mom. "Hey are you ok?" Aunt Jenna asks. "Yeah." "Dont pay attention to miss little perfect." Aunt Jenna says. I smile at her. "How has work been?" "Its been good, a little busy but good." "Thats great." "Mom i am hungry." Leslie says. "Go get some food." Aunt Jenna says to Leslie. "And bring me some." Aunt Jenna is 10 years younger than mom. Mom was the star cheerleader and prom queen while Aunt Jenna was the book smart girl. A typical sibling thing. "Athena what was that?" Mom says as she walks to us. "Leave me alone mom." I snap at her. "I was just trying to." "Trying to what?" "Katie why dont you just leave Athena alone." Aunt Jenna says. "Butt out Jenna." Mom says. "I dont want to be set up. Ok" I say. "But Athena." "No!" I yell a little too loudly. Everyone is staring at us. Dad clears his throat. I sigh and walk to the bathroom. Jesus why cant that woman get it through her thick skull that i dont want to be set up. Every time she gets the chance. Theres a knock on the door. "Athena?" Mom calls out. "I am sorry." I stay quiet. "Its just that i worry so much, you are already 25 going to 26 and living on your own, i worry a lot, i want you to be happy." Mom says. "I dont want you alone." I then open the door. "Mom ill get a boyfriend when i decide to get a boyfriend. I am fine the way i am." Mom then puts her hand on my cheek. "I am sorry." Mom apologizes. "Its fine mom." "Come lets have some lunch together." Mom says. I walk beside her and head into the dining room where the food is already set up. We sit at the table and begin to enjoy the lunch, thankfully its peaceful
