Across the glowing flame, Leah could see the boy's painful suffering. The cry echoed in her ears made a deafening silence in her thoughts.
"W-w-what have I done?!" Leah knelt on the ground due to feeblenes. She was gazed into the fire that made her face glow by the reflection of the flaming red. "I-is this what happened to his parents?!.. Oh my Noel! It's my fault!.. H-how would I tell you?"
Fallen tears is the only she could give. The tragedy which Noel didn't want to reminisce, a menace to his memories. Death of his parents, the most painful thing he could bear but not to treasure.
On the other side of lighting fiery, five-year old Noel was still insisting to run nearly onto his parents.
"Mama!.... Papa!!... No!.. Please!... " Noel cried out.
Edith tried to make him calm holding firmly in arms however her tears also flowing as her heart grinded seeing their beloved being snatched by the fire.
"I.... I.... was the reason.... I am so sorry.... None in this world I could do for your forgiveness... Unforgivable!!... What I have done is unforgivable.. Noel, my love I'm so sorry... " Leah continued crying in misery.
"WEE-oww-WEE-oww!"
The piercing sound of fire truck's siren made Leah to pulled herself together, got up and went to the backdoor concealed in the view of others.
People outdoors were clamouring for those lives who were at stake. The rescuers came rushing through, the clustered bulk of dark smokes from the fire easily recognised and was tracked. Firefighters were running carrying a huge fire hose to settle the madness of burning storage room.
"Sir! Please do something.. Save them please.." Edith in teary-eyed said.
An hour had passed, the fire had been totally extinguished yet unfortunately Noli and Ellen didn't able to survive the tragedy.
"We did our best... but... I am so sorry.." Rescuer said in melancholic voice.
In response, she hugged Noel as tightly as she could. Edith lamented in sorrowful despairment. The people with great hearts and an awesome personalities were now taken. These couple who once became her parents and as good as always be. Their love will never be forgotten, in memories will not be forsaken.
"Sorry!.. "
No other words Leah could utter only this, the word "sorry". Repetitively spoken mimicking in her mind. She took a glance for the last time to Edith and Noel who were still broken. Then, closed her swollen eyes, uncountable tears dropped and twist the backdoor's knob. Despite of the heartache she'd gone through, this catastrophic moment is what gonna pay her back.
