I heard the growl before I saw the wolf. Rylee and I shifted back to a human and put on the shorts one of my Pack members forwarded to us. After that we made our way through the dozen of my Pack members, that were standing close to the wolf. Deryn where still in his wolf form and he were eyeing the wolf closely. It growled even deeper when it saw me, making my way closer to it. It leaned forward a bit in its lying position on the ground and covered Leigh even more with its body.
“She’s unconscious.” Rylee leaned in and whispered despite the fact, that everyone would still be able to hear him. Wolf-hearing and all that. At his words, the wolf looked down and then pushed Leigh lightly with its snout, but she didn’t move. Didn’t even make a sound. Confirming Rylee’s statement about her being unconscious. The wolf whimpered slightly but growled deep when I took a step forward. Rylee grabbed my arm and pulled me back.
“Don’t do anything stupid Kayden.” He looked at the wolf with a wavery glare.
“She’s unconscious Rylee. We don’t have time for this. The longer we fool around, just increases the chance of losing her and I’m not going to let that happen. So, either help me get her away from the Rouge or shut up.” I gave him an icy dead glare, but he just returned it. Rylee could be extremely stubborn when he wanted. In the corner of my eye, I saw the wolf move and I turned to it, while ignoring Rylee. The wolf was now standing behind Leigh and were pushing her closer with its snout. I eyed one of the Pack members there where closest to Leigh, but the second he stepped forward, the wolf stepped over Leigh, and growled at the man. It then looked me dead in the eyes and step back slowly. The message where clear. I was the only one allowed to get her, so keeping my wolf in check or trying to, I stepped forward. Ignoring the wolf, but still moving slowly, I kneeled and picked Leigh up in my arms. The wolf took a step back as I got up and then turned and ran away. I looked at Deryn and used my head to signal him to follow the wolf and he did, without hesitating. I then turned on my hells and started running through the forest as fast I could. Rylee followed me and were matching my pace. He then turned his head to glare at me.
“What!” I hissed at him, but he just smiled, pissing me of.
“Do you know the wolf?” His eyes were glowing slightly, telling me he where up to something.
“No.” I said it though gritted teeth.
“Are you sure? Because it looked like, the wolf knew you. Have you been naughty brother?” He grinned at me, his eyes glowing even more.
“I would never do that to Sheila.” His grin just got bigger at my statement.
“Perhaps not, but you did have a life before she became your Mate, and you are a guy with specific needs.” If it wasn’t for the fact that I where holding Leigh in my arms I would have hit him. Hard. I was so close to doing it despite holding her, but the chance of dropping her was a reality, so I didn’t. My parents were already going to kill me, because Deryn shoot her, I didn’t need to add to the trouble by dropping her. Why did she have to be human? They are way too fragile… Now why did I have to marry this girl? She was f*****g up my life big time and hadn’t even been here a full day yet. One of my Pack-members Mind-linked me an told me that they did manage to get the other Rouge lurking around the castle. Hopefully my guys would be able to get some information from it, but that victory paled in comparison to all the s**t Leigh where causing. Our parents stood in the doorway as we approached, and they were far from happy. Our mother took one look at the unconscious Leigh in my arms and started walking towards us with an angry expression.
“What did you do to her?” She glared at me and then reach out to take Leigh from my arms and I let her do it. I wasn’t up for the discussion we would have, if I didn’t let her take her.
“He didn’t do anything mother. Deryn shot her by accident.” Rylee, trying to defend me got a growl from our mother in return and she looked at me with an even angrier expression.
“You let your Beta shoot her! What kind of son’s did I rise? The kind that treats females like crap that is the type I raised.” The look she gave us were daring us to speak up, but we didn’t. She then turned around and walked inside with Leigh laying in her arms looking even more pale. The look our father gave us, before following our mother, where full of disappointment and he shook his head before he was out of sight. Rylee put a hand on my shoulder.
“Don’t sweat it brother. Once Leigh is awake, they will come down again… And this is on Deryn not you.” He then removed his hand and walked inside. But this was MY fault. Deryn was my Beta and he acted on my order. My Wolf where restless and it had been that way since Leigh took off on the wolf. It had diminished since we found her again, but it was now back with full force, so I shifted into my Wolf and started running towards the forest. I needed a break from all this Leigh-s**t.
