The Billionaire's forgotten Daughter chapter1
Chapter 1: The Girl by the Roadside
The scorching afternoon sun beat down mercilessly on the crowded streets of Lagos. Cars honked impatiently while traders shouted to attract customers. Amid the chaos stood twenty-two-year-old Sophia Williams, balancing a tray of bottled water on her head.
"Cold water! Pure cold water!" she called out.
Most people ignored her.
Sophia was used to it.
Life had never been kind to her.
She lived in a tiny one-room apartment with her sick mother, Grace Williams. Every day she struggled to earn enough money for food, rent, and medication.
That evening, after selling her last bottle of water, she hurried home.
The room was dark when she entered.
"Mama?" she called softly.
A weak voice answered.
"I'm here, my daughter."
Sophia rushed to her mother's side.
Grace looked thinner than ever.
The sickness that had plagued her for years seemed to be getting worse.
Sophia held her hand.
"Did you take your medicine?"
Grace forced a smile.
"Yes."
Sophia knew it was a lie.
There was no money left for medicine.
Tears filled her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away.
She couldn't afford to cry.
Not now.
Not ever.
The next morning, Sophia woke before sunrise and headed to the market.
As she arranged her goods, a giant electronic billboard across the street suddenly flashed breaking news.
The entire market fell silent.
People stopped what they were doing.
Sophia looked up.
A photograph of one of the richest men in Africa appeared on the screen.
Billionaire business tycoon Richard Sterling.
The headline shocked everyone.
RICHARD STERLING DEAD AT 62.
Gasps spread through the crowd.
"He died?"
"No way!"
"He was worth billions!"
Sophia barely paid attention.
Rich people's problems had nothing to do with her.
Or so she thought.
Three days later, everything changed.
A black luxury vehicle stopped in front of her tiny apartment.
Neighbors gathered immediately.
People whispered.
Sophia stared in confusion as two men in expensive suits stepped out.
One of them approached.
"Are you Sophia Williams?"
"Yes."
The man handed her a sealed envelope.
"My name is David Clark. I am attorney to the late Richard Sterling."
Sophia frowned.
"There must be a mistake."
"There is no mistake."
The lawyer looked directly into her eyes.
"You are listed in Richard Sterling's final will."
Sophia's heart skipped a beat.
"What?"
The lawyer opened a file.
"The late Richard Sterling left evidence proving that he was your biological father."
The world seemed to stop.
Sophia could barely breathe.
"My father?"
The words felt foreign.
Impossible.
Her mother had always refused to talk about him.
The lawyer nodded.
"Mr. Sterling acknowledged you as his daughter before his death."
Sophia stood frozen.
Her entire life she had believed she was unwanted.
Fatherless.
Forgotten.
Now a stranger was telling her that one of the wealthiest men in the country was her father.
But the lawyer's next words were even more shocking.
"You have inherited thirty percent of the Sterling family fortune."
Sophia nearly collapsed.
The crowd gasped.
The lawyer continued.
"Unfortunately, there is a problem."
"What problem?"
The lawyer's expression darkened.
"The Sterling family does not know about you."
A chill ran through Sophia's body.
"And they will do everything possible to ensure you never receive what belongs to you."
Far away, inside a luxurious mansion, Richard Sterling's eldest son slammed his fist onto a table.
"What do you mean another heir exists?"
The family lawyer swallowed nervously.
"She is Richard Sterling's daughter."
The room erupted with anger.
A woman stood abruptly.
"We cannot allow this girl to take our inheritance."
Another relative sneered.
"Then we make sure she never reaches the reading of the will."
The room fell silent.
A dangerous smile spread across the eldest son's face.
"Find her."
Back in her tiny apartment, Sophia sat beside her sleeping mother, still trying to process everything.
She had no idea that at that very moment powerful people were already plotting her downfall.
And the fight for her father's billions had just begun.
