THE BAD BOY’S FIRST KISS   CHAPTER 7   DEVVY’S POV   OKAY. I’ve just become overreacting, but I was already emotional since this morning, and Matthew just found me there with his beast mode on. I was scared. I wasn’t sure what he’d really do. I already apologized, though, so I think we’re good now.   I got home just now, and the sun has just set. I saw my mom in the kitchen, cooking something. She did not notice my arrival as she focused on what she’s doing. I continued stepping on the stairs to the second floor, where my room was, when I heard mom finally saw me.   “You’re here. Where did you come from? I just called your dad to fetch you. He might be there by now.”   “Oh, sorry. I didn’t tell you. I just… commuted?” Oh, that sounds unsure. “I commuted. You know. Exercise.” I faked a laugh. “I will call dad now, mom.”   She nodded. “Okay.” She turned back to her cooking.   When I got inside my room, I put my things on my study table and threw myself on the bed. I am so tired. I didn’t even do many things at the seashore. I was just reading a book, singing a song, and writing an entry to my diary about the events that occurred today. There’s a continuation for today’s entry, though. And that will be about Matthew and me.   I groped for my phone when I remembered dad.   “Yes, sweetie?” greeted dad as soon as he picked up the call.   “Dad, don’t fetch me anymore. I’m home already. I’m sorry.”   “It’s okay, sweetie. I was about to, but you called at the right time. I’m going home now. Do you want something?”   “Nothing, Dad.”   “Alright, sweetie. I’m hanging up now.” The call ended.   Mom and Dad call me “sweetie” ever since I was young. That means that they’re sweet to me, but when they call me by my name, that means they’re serious, mad, or something. All in all, my parents love me very much, and I love them the same way.   I changed my school uniform with my indoor apparel and fixed my things before I went downstairs. I helped mom prepare the table for our dinner. Then we heard dad’s car. He’s here. I went to the main door to see him.   “Hello, Dad!” I hugged him at the main door.   “Hello, sweetie!” He hugged me back. When we parted, he said, “By the way, your friend is here.” His lips twisted into a smile.   My forehead created creases. “My friend?”   His sight flew to the car. “Where is that boy?” I heard him say barely inaudible, but I still managed to listen to it. Then a guy went out of my dad's car.   My jaw dropped down when I recognized who he is. “Hunter?”   “Hi, Dev.” Hunter’s lips twitched into a smile as he walked closer to us.   “Just come in and feel at home, Hunt,” my dad told him and tapped his shoulder.   “No problem, Uncle Preston.” Then Dad went inside, leaving us at the door after Hunter replied.   “W-what are you doing here?” I asked him confusedly. I was shy too because I’m sure he knew what happened this morning.   He stared straight into my eyes. I felt conscious. I was the one who looked away as I could not bear stare for long. Why is he staring at me like this? Does he recall the incident? Does he believe the accusations?   He uttered a soft sigh. “Aren’t you gonna invite me in first?”   I moved aside to offer him space. He stepped inside, and then I closed the door. He went first to the kitchen where my parents are. It felt like he just ignored me. He became cold, but I followed there afterward.   “Wow! I can’t wait for these foods, Aunt Denny. These are for sure delicious,” Hunter said joyously when he’d seen and smelled the foods my mom cooked.   “Oh! You’re here, Hunter!” Mom seemed surprised, but she beamed.   “Good evening, Auntie.” Hunter came to reach Mom’s hand and put it on his forehead. It is one among the Filipino cultures in showing respect to elders.   “Uncle saw me commute a while ago. My parents could not fetch me, so I took the chance to have some walking exercise. I will have my dinner here, Auntie, before I go home.”   So, he’s just here to eat dinner? They just live nearby, though. About more than a seven-minute walk, I guess.   “That’s not a problem, Hunter.” Mom gestured us to have a seat after that and washing of hands. After the prayer led by Mom, dinner started.   Hunter complimented my mom’s cooking skills. Mom just laughed shortly. My parents are happy with Hunter. They also mentioned the fine dining. Only the three of them are talking about various topics while I stayed quiet. I’m worried about one thing. I just hope Hunter would not mention something about me. I don’t want my parents to know it.   “So, how’s school?” Dad changed their subject. That made me pause from chewing the meat in my mouth.   I looked at Hunter, who’s just seated opposite me. He’s looking at me as well. Maybe he thought of me and the incident.   “Uhm…” He did not take his eyes off me yet. I don’t know if it was just my imagination or something, but it seems like he’s going to mention it.   “Please, no…” I mouthed without my voice coming out. I even shook my head a little and begged with my face so that he could get it. And it seems like he did get it when he nodded.   “Are you two okay?” Mom spoke as she’s looking at us.   “School is okay, Auntie. There are lots of pretty girls out there. They’re a motivation to attend school every day.”   My parents laughed in amusement after the lively answer of Hunter. Gosh, this playboy…   “You’re really like your dad before. He was once a playboy like you,” Dad stated.   After dinner, Mom said I should talk with Hunter for a while in the living room when I volunteered to wash the dishes and clean the table, but she didn’t let me. Dad went upstairs to change, so I don’t have any other choice. I joined Hunter in the living room. He’s watching a basketball replay. The moment I sat on the very edge of the sofa while he’s in the middle, I felt his gaze shift in my direction.   “W-what are you staring at?” I asked him without throwing him even a glance.   “Can we talk outside? You don’t want your parents to hear it. Right?”
