THE BAD BOY’S FIRST KISS
CHAPTER 6
MATTHEW’S POV
“SHE deserved it. She stole my diary. She must have read it. And she cheated. She’s done a lot of crimes. She is not what we think she is.”
We are currently having lunch in the school cafeteria. And Calisha is narrating everything that happened this morning. Her friend is now here with us because she called her a while ago to join us. Lyka is her friend’s name.
After Calisha told the whole story, I looked at Hunter and Troy to see their reactions. As usual, Troy was wearing his poker face. Hunter raised a brow at Calisha.
“Now I know why she suddenly reached the third rank. How horrible. She’s so unfair,” Trixie commented.
“What will you do now?” Diane asked Calisha.
“The teachers and the principal already knew it. We’ll just wait what actions they will take,” Calisha said.
“Are there evidence?” Hunter asked.
“Of course, there are,” Calisha answered. “Why will I be like this if nothing happened? Why will I be like this if I have no evidence? Right, Lyka?”
“Yes, Calisha’s right,” Lyka promptly agreed.
There was a beat of silence for a while.
“If you are doubting, I can show you the evidence. That way—”
Hunter instantly butted in, cutting Calisha off, saying, “No, no. It’s fine. We believe you now. We don’t really mind about it, anyway.”
“See? My girl is the best girl,” I proudly said and put my arms around Calisha’s shoulder.
“We are not opposing. She’s Calisha, the highest-ranking student in the whole fourth-year high school student here at school. My best friend is the best.” That was Lyka.
“Thanks, Lyka.” Calisha beamed.
My phone suddenly buzzed, so I took it out. I stared at the screen when I read my dad's name on it. I breathed out a soft sigh and stood up.
“Where are you going, babe?” Calisha asked, holding my arm, preventing me from leaving. The others were looking at me already.
“I’ll just answer this call. I’ll be back,” I just told her, which was also meant for the others.
“Go on, babe.” Calisha smiled at me.
I gestured to my friends that I will be back. I received a thumbs up. Then I picked up the call as I marched away.
“Dad…”
“Hey, Matt. It’s Fred.”
“Hi, Uncle Fred.”
“Your dad is with us. He’s heartbroken again, so he’s drunk. He met your mom a while ago with the same man again. He can’t go home later. He said he’ll stay with us here. Our other friends are here in my house.”
A sigh of tiredness came out of my mouth upon hearing what Uncle Fred told me. “I’m sorry, Uncle.”
I heard him chuckle. “Don’t be sorry, Matt. No worries. Don’t worry much about your dad. We are used to him like this. He will be fine. I’ll be driving him to your home tomorrow.”
“Thanks, Uncle, for always being there with my dad." After I ended the call, I uttered another sigh once again. He met her? What’s she doing here? I thought she left the city already.
I did not notice that I was not going on the way back to the cafeteria anymore until I found myself out of the campus already. Only then did I realize that I was sinking into a daze while walking, like I was floating in the clouds that took me where the wind would like me to be.
I let my feet where they would take me. What’s important right now is that I could unwind. Troy and Hunter would know why I did not come back. Every time my dad sees or meets mom, this happens, whether she’s with her man or not.
Honestly, I don’t like what I’ve heard. Not that dad is drunk, but the news that my mother is in the same city with us. I don't want her here. I don’t like her near my dad. I don’t like my dad to see her. If he does, he'd be torn into pieces because he loves her so much, and she doesn’t feel the same way. Yes, I hate my mom for a reason. If my dad is in pain, I am in the same shoes as him. It was my mom's fault why our family became like this. Broken. And I am the most affected by this setup. I am so mad at her.
My thoughts were suddenly interrupted as I heard someone singing from a near distance. I was even a bit surprised when I realized that I am already on the seashore.
I paused from walking and searched for the origin of the lovely voice of a girl using my eyes and ears. She’s singing a sad song, and I wouldn't say I like it not only because it was sad, but also, I could relate to the lyrics. It darted right into my chest.
I finally saw her leaning against a rock while she’s writing something on the notebook she’s holding. Suddenly, she stopped singing when she also noticed me. Her eyes widened. I think she recognized who I am. I suddenly recognized her too. She was that girl from this morning, the girl who bumped into me and ran away without apologizing.
I walked towards her. She quickly stood up and packed her things. I knew she’s going to leave once again, but I will not her. Before she could take a step, I stopped her that caused her to freeze in her position.
“Hey! Where do you think you’re going, huh?” I am finally in front of her, just a meter away. She’s not looking at me, though.
“U-uhm, I’m going h-home. I suddenly remembered that… that—”
“That I was the guy you bumped into this morning. Right?” I smirked at her.
She raised her head to see me. I saw her swallow. “It was accidental. I didn’t mean it,” she defended.
I frowned. “So, that means you’re not gonna say sorry? Did you purposely do it?”
She sighed. “Okay, sorry,” she plainly said.
I forced a laugh that implied sarcasm. “That’s it?”
“I didn’t do it on purpose. And I said sorry, so let us end this. What else do you want?”
“Are you raising your voice at me? Do you know who you’re talking to, huh?” I suddenly got madder.
How she did close her eyes when I raised my voice did not escape from my sight. “You have a share of mistakes too. You were not looking on your way too. We’re both at fault. Don’t blame it all to me.” Her voice suddenly trembled.
I could see the liquids starting to well up from her eyes. Then I noticed something. It seems like she had cried already before I arrived. The bags down her eyes could prove it.
And before I could pronounce something, her tears fell. I gulped. I don’t know what to say anymore.
She instantly brushed those tears away. “I’m sorry, Matthew. I promise I didn’t mean it. It was just unintentional. I… I was running at that time because I couldn’t take their eyes on me. I was blamed for something I never did. I was humiliated. That explains why I am here from this morning. I’m sorry. I will be careful next time. The bumping incident will never happen ever again.”
After she said those words, she walked away, crying as she left me. Now, I knew she was that girl my friends and Calisha mentioned. She was that girl who stole my girlfriend’s diary and the girl who cheated.
But the bumping incident suddenly appeared in my head once again. Out of the blue, the memory of the girl that I had accidentally kissed in a night concert before flashed into my head. My heart started to beat faster. Upon remembering that, my eyes followed the girl leaving while I remained rooted in my position. She was already away, and I could barely see her back.
Is she that girl?
