Chapter four - Weird lady

2342 Words
Jordan's POV: I need to stay away from my mom for her good. I understand that she misses me, but this is too much. I went to three dinners last week. She needs to know that I am growing up. There is a reason why I moved out at nineteen. I tried to talk to my dad, but he couldn't do anything to help me. He and my mom have had a conversation about this but without results. I don't know what else to do to make her understand this. The only thing that came to my mind was to make some of her friends talk to her. I'm not sure if they will agree. Nothing else has left me. My friends told me to stop going home so often. She is my mom. I can't hurt her feelings. I miss my parents, too, but not that much. I work all day. All I want when I go home is to eat. Then I like taking a shower and sleeping. Well, sometimes I go out with my friends. They need my attention as well. The other thing is that this is the only time we can see each other. Noah and Jason have more free time. They have a few classes a day. Well, sometimes, they come to visit me at the coffee shop. At least I have some customers. The others are regular ones that work around the area. I thought about a new job, but I won't change this one. I don't think I can find that high-paid and easy one. For now, I will stay where I am. One day, I might have my own coffee shop. It's not like this is what I want. I don't even know what I want. At least I have time to think. I hope that I will make the right decision. It's Friday. This means I don't have to work for two days. The coffee shop can work on Saturday, but the boss closes it. As I have said before, the main customers are the people who work in the stores around ours. If they are closed, not many people will come. Cassie is the one who will open the shop today. This doesn't mean I will be late today. At least no one wakes up that early. We have time to get ready. The first customers usually come an hour after we open. I woke up early today. Last night, I was tired and went to bed around 9 pm. Now I have a whole hour to get ready. I don't even need that much. I used the time to make a proper breakfast. Usually, I'm always on the go. That took me half an hour. When I was ready, I went to the store. Cassie wasn't here yet. I can wait for her. I walked around to see which stores were open. Then I checked my phone and realized something. I woke up at 6 am, not at 7. I walked around until it was time to open the shop. - Hello. - Oh, hey. Do you wait for a long time? - Only for an hour. - What? - I'm kidding. I woke up too early and had nothing to do at home. - Don't give me heart attacks. - Relax. - Welcome to our kingdom. - Except for the fact that we don't own this. - You can always dream. - That is true. - What are your plans for the weekend? - I have no idea. Maybe my friends will want us to go out or do something. - When can I meet them? - Why? - Because you talk a lot about them. They seem nice. - They are. - Then tell them to come here. - Noah and Jason can. Dylan is working. - Oh, he was the one working in the mall. - Yes. - I'm surprised that he goes home early. Usually, malls don't close at 6 pm. - Not many people go to his store. The prices are high. The other thing is that people go more through the day. - That is true, too. - He has some free time for us. - That is good. Tell them that I want to see them. - Who do you want to see? - Mark? What are you doing here so early? - I decided to see you before I go to work. - Thanks. I think you have met Jordan. - He did. Many times. - I said, and he laughed - Can I know who you want to meet? - His friends. He keeps talking about them. - I don't know if they will come here. Probably, that won't be today. They have been here before. - It doesn't matter. - I will go to work. You can enjoy his company. - I said and left Until the lunch break, there weren't many customers. Well, many people drink their coffee at home. I went to buy lunch. This time, I bought chicken tenders with rice and two slices of bread. I can't go to McDonald's every day. Cassie took care of the customers while I was eating. Then we switched. She went outside for something. I never ask her what she does. That is because I don't care. Also, it's not my business. I was making myself a cup of latte when one woman came. She was looking weird. What I mean is her clothes. I haven't seen people dressing like that in a while. Maybe I should say in years. - Hello. What can I prepare for you? - What is the best drink you have? - Now I remember you. - Well, today I am dressed more comfortably. People think I look like a hippy. That's why I have to wear more normal clothes. - Wear what makes you happy. - Thank you. - All the drinks are good. - What is your favorite one? - I don't have. Every day, I drink something different. - Then make the same drink you have now. - This is a latte. - Great. Put more cream. - No problem. Did you recently move to town? I think I saw you two weeks ago for the first time. - No, but this store is not close to my house. - I understand. - Well, I have seen you outside. At least, I think it was you. Maybe it was someone else. - It's possible. Here is your drink. - How much do I owe you? - Five dollars. - Here you go. You can keep the change. - Thanks. - Bye. I hope to see you soon. - Sure. That's a weird lady. I was putting the dollar bills in the cash register when I saw a piece of paper. I left it aside until I finished with the money. That was a note. The thing is that I don't understand what it means. You will meet your soulmate. What is that supposed to mean? Maybe she gave it to me by mistake. Well, I saw how she pulled out the money. The woman wanted me to receive this. The question is why. Also, I don't believe in such things as soulmates. That doesn't exist. I put the note aside and started cleaning. I won't believe her. - Oh, who is your soulmate? - Cassie asked - I don't have one. - Then why did you write it on a note? - It wasn't me. One weird lady gave it to me. - I saw one coming here dressed like a hippy. - That's her. - I think I have seen her before. The thing is that I don't know where. - She has been to the shop before. - No, it's not here. - Then I don't know. - Right! She was on the plaza drinking coffee with someone. - How do you know it was her? - She was dressed the same way. Also, I was at the table next to her with Mark. - I see. - Why would she give you this note? - I have no idea. It's not like I want to know. - Maybe she wants to tell you something. - Like what? Except for the fact that she is crazy. - Ignore that. Probably, she meant that you would meet a girl. - Yeah, right. Come on. - What? It's true. You might not notice it in the beginning. She will leave a trace in your mind and your heart. - Cassie, this is not a movie. Things don't happen like that. - You need to think more positively. Give this a chance. - That won't happen. - Then, I will take this note. - No way. She gave it to me. - So you care? - Take it. That way is better. - Don't think about this too much. Otherwise, you will check every girl you see. - I won't do that. - Let's say that I believe you. - You better do it. - If you say so. Cassie and I spent the rest of the day working. There were a few customers, but not that many. Mark came to take her after we closed the shop. I went home. The plan is to take a shower, eat, and rest. That was until I checked my phone. Noah wanted us to go out. This won't happen today. I told him to come home if he wanted to. I'm not in the mood for anything. While I was waiting for him, I took a shower. Later, I checked how much food I had. Of course, I'll offer him to stay for dinner. After half an hour, he was there with two bags. I guess he has bought food. - Hello, my friend. - Hey. Come in. - Thank you. This is for you. - I smell food. - You smell right. - he said, chuckling - What did you get? - You can take a peak. - I'm getting hungry now. - Let's eat, then. Kitchen or living room? - Do you want us to watch something? - No, I only came for the talk. - Then kitchen. - Cool. - How are you today? I see you are in a good mood. - I said, putting the plates on the table - I had fewer classes, and the teachers were in a good mood. - At least something good happened. - Why? - Because no one says anything anymore. Dylan keeps complaining. - That is true. I think he needs a girl to put him in his place. - We have to wait for this miracle. - I said, and he laughed - You want this, don't you? - I think it's obvious. - All of us need it. - Hold on. Since when do you want a girlfriend? - Since you are the only people who entertain me. Also, a girl's opinion is not that bad. - It depends on what we are talking about. - True, but still. - How bad do you want it? - I'm not desperate. - Then don't talk with Dylan. - Don't worry. He doesn't even know. - Do you have a target? - No, not yet. - Does age matter? - Well, I don't want a tenth-grader. - What if she is a senior? - Why are you asking? Do you know someone? - No, but I want to know if she has to be your age. - It's not necessary, but I would like it. - Good luck. I can't recommend you to anyone. - It's ok. I believe that she will come alone. - I hope so. I will help you with everything I can. - Thanks, but I prefer to do this alone. I think you should do it, too. - Because? - Because you need it. Noah and I kept talking while we were eating. It's good to sit and talk with someone. No matter that, sometimes, I prefer to be alone. After all, I need some time for myself, too. The boys keep talking about girls. I won't deny having a girlfriend, but I don't think someone will want to go out with me. I'm not the best-looking guy. It's not like I have ever tried. After dinner, we went to the living room for a movie. - Did the boys text you? - Noah asked - I don't think so. Let me check. - I said and pulled out the phone from my pocket - Oh, what is that? You will find your soulmate. - One weird lady gave it to me. - Why weird? - You should've seen the way she was dressed. - Do you believe in this? - he asked, looking at the note - Really? Do I look that dumb? - I'm only asking. - No, I don't. Such a thing doesn't exist. - I won't be so sure. You can call a soulmate the person you love the most. - Do you mean my parents? - You know what I mean. - This is ridiculous. - If you say so. I think this means you will find a girl. - Whatever. I won't talk about it. - Fair enough. Noah stayed at home until midnight. I offered him to spend the night here. Well, he denied it. My friend has classes tomorrow. Also, his books are at his house. We have enough time to hang out. Maybe I can go out with my friends tomorrow night. I will text them to see if they are available. During the night, I have nothing to do. It's not a lie that sometimes I like to be alone. I shut my phone and do things inside. Believe it or not, this is relaxing. It's only you and no one else. That is what I call paradise. Someone might say that I will get lonely, but no. I hope that I will always have time for myself.
