Chapter fourteen - I like her

2345 Words
Jordan's POV: I keep seeing Melanie every day. Mostly, that is because she comes to the store. I realized that my mood changed when she was around. I'm happy that she comes to see me so often. There is a chance that it's not because of me. The girl likes the drinks I make her. I will pretend it was because of me to keep myself in a good mood. Noah has asked me questions about it. I didn't have what to tell him. My best friend asked for Natalie. I think he has an eye on her. There is nothing wrong with that. I noticed how she looked at him that day in my shop. It's not f*******n to have a crush on someone. That's why I don't think they have talked with each other. I can always help with that, but it's not my business. I better focus on myself. It's not like I have many things to do. My job is simple, but I like it. Mom has invited me for another dinner at home, but I don't know when I will come. I still go there once a week. Well, for the last one, I was a bit busy. This doesn't mean I won't keep my promise. All I need is a bit of time. After all, my friends need me, too. We don't have many things to tell each other, but I like hanging out with them. Since Melanie started coming to the shop, I ignored them a bit. I still keep thinking about her tattoo. It seems impossible, but it's true. They are identical. This might be a sign of something. Well, I won't take it seriously. No one will make me believe in this. Soulmates don't exist. Whoever created this wasn't good. I don't need a soulmate when I have her. I hope our relations won't change. It's another working day for me. Every day is like that except for the weekend. I'm not complaining. At least I have what to occupy myself. The good thing is that I'm not alone at work. Otherwise, I won't have with who to talk except for the customers. It won't be that bad, but it will be boring. She is my daily entertainment. Her boyfriend comes often to see her. At least he is buying something. That is my everyday life. Someone might say that I do the same things over and over again. I don't mind. It's my choice. Currently, I am in the store. I went for lunch and came back. Luckily, it's not that cold today. We should close for lunch like the other stores. The thing is that this is when most customers come. We can't miss this. I already made two coffees for ten minutes. During winter, people don't go out that much. In summer, we have more clients. I was looking through the window when I saw Noah. I'm sure he is not here to see me. He came in straight up to me. - I need a coffee and a muffin. - No problem. Why are you in a rush? - I have a lot of work to do. Teachers are crazy these days. - You can stay here if you want. - I might do it. It's quiet here. - This is your order. - I will pay you later. This might not be my last drink. - Do what you want. - Thanks. How are you today? - Noah asked as he sat down - I'm fine. - Where is Melanie? - At school. - What is going on between you two? You hang out with her often. - I don't know. I like her company. - You like her company, or you like her. - Where is the difference? - There is a big difference. At least you admit it. - I'm not sure about this. - There is nothing wrong with that. She will graduate from school this year. - I'm not talking about her age. - Then what? - It doesn't matter. - I think it does. - I think you need to do your work. - Why don't you do it? - Because I have no idea what it is about. I can't help you. - I know. Noah and I talked for a while. Then, I left him to do his work. I went to help Cassie clean. She took the next few customers. After some time, she called me. I bet Melanie is here. I walked out and was surprised. I didn't expect to see her here. - Natalie? - Hey. Can we talk for a minute? - Sure. Did something happen? - No, don't worry. I only wanted to apologize for that day. - You didn't do anything. - I wish she could share with me more. - Give her some time. This is not easy for her. - You know, right? - I do. - But you won't tell me. - I promised her. - I see. Is it that bad? - No, but Melanie thinks differently. She is afraid that this might disappoint her parents and lose her friends. - What? If it's not that bad, why would she think this? - It's hard to explain. Look, she will tell you everything when she feels ready. - I hope so. - Trust me. She doesn't like hiding. - But she does it. - When you know everything, you will understand. - I hope so. - Do you want a drink? You can't leave thirsty. - Thanks, but I should go. - It will take you five minutes to sit and drink it. - Fine. As I see it, you won't leave me in peace. - You will thank me later. - Why? - Slowly turn around. - He is here. - I'm doing you a favor. - What a favor! I will go. - No, no. He is busy with his work. I bet he won't notice you. - I hope so. - Here you go. - Keep the change. - Thanks. I don't want to get involved in this. I will do everything possible to help from a distance. Also, I only made her stay here for some time. Nothing will happen. When Noah is concentrated on something, the world around him doesn't exist. As I expected, he didn't notice her. It might be good for her, but they need to talk. I made him another drink and walked up to him. - I need you to take a five-minute break. - I can't. I have a lot of work to do. - Do it. You will thank me later. - Why? - Look up. - For how long she has been there? - For quite some time. - Really? - Now is your chance. - Thanks. That was. I didn't do anything else. After all, I'm not Cupid. The five-minute break became a bit longer. These two need a proper conversation. Natalie left after half an hour. I have no idea what they talked about, but he was happy. Then, he continued with his work. I did the same. After an hour, there was another customer. - I want the usual. - Hot chocolate? - No, not this one. - Lately, this is your usual. - I want the other usual. - You are making things way more complicated than they are. - If you want a tip, do as I say. - Yes, miss. I see you are in a good mood. - I am. What are your plans for the rest of the day? - To go home, take a shower, and rest. - You can go home, take a shower, and make dinner. - Why? - I will come to visit you. - Can you tell me these things a bit early? - Because? - Because I'm not ready. - Relax. I was kidding. - Oh, ok. - What? - Nothing. - Do you want me to come? I didn't plan it, but I can fit you into my schedule. - No, thanks. I'm fine. - Can you give me a note from there and a pen? - Here you go. Your drink is ready, too. - Alright. This is for you. Don't be late. I won't wait for long. - Melanie said and left - Problems in paradise? - Noah asked - I wish it had been paradise. - What do you mean? - Nothing. Do your work. - You can tell me. - What happened with you and Natalie? - Nothing. She gave me her phone number. - What? Really? - Yes. I am making moves. - I hope she is the right one. - Well, I didn't invite her on a date. - That was your mistake. - I won't do it now. I don't even know if I like her. - You told me you did. - That's what I thought. I'm not sure if it's true. - You better figure it out soon. The way she is looking at you says it all. - I know. It's the same way you look at Melanie. - That has nothing to do with her. - For sure. Open your eyes. You love this girl. - You wish. - I do, for real. Noah and I talked for some time. Then, he went home. I stayed here until 6 pm. I was the one who closed the shop today. This means I will open it tomorrow. I went home and took a shower. I still have the note from Melanie. She wanted us to meet at a park. I feel like something will happen. Hopefully, it's a good thing. That is what I want to hear. When I was ready, I walked out and got dressed. I made myself something to eat, and then I went out. Melanie was already waiting for me. - Hey. - Hey. I hope you haven't waited much. - Don't worry. I came ten minutes ago. - Can I know why you wanted to meet me? - Why? Don't you want to see me? - No, I was surprised. - I was joking about what I said. - I know, but. - But what? - I won't deny having another dinner with you at home. This time, I'll try to make something better. - You don't have to worry about that. - What do you mean? - Even if we order food, I will still come to eat it with you. - Why? - Because I don't care about the food or the place. - The for what do you care? - You. I still don't believe in what Adriana told me, but all this can't be a coincidence. You know it. - Yes, I do. It's weird. - Can I ask you something? - Sure. - Will you be my friend? Officially? - Really? Are you sure you want this? - Yes. I'm sure about this. - I'm sorry, but I have to accept. - Then get ready. I won't leave you in peace. - she said, chuckling - I don't mind. - What do you want us to do now? I don't want to go home yet. - I won't deny a walk with you. - Deal. Today, it's not that cold. I can stay outside a bit longer. - I have news for you. - News? - Your friend talked with mine. - Natalie and Noah met? - Yes. He came to do his work in the shop. Your friend came to talk with me. She wants you to share with her. - I know, but I can't do it yet. - I told her to give you some time. - Thanks. Did something happen between them? - She gave him her phone number. - What? Really? - That's what he told me. I didn't pay attention. - I will talk with her about it. Melanie and I stayed outside for some time. I offered to take her home. She is old enough to go home, but I didn't let her. Let's say that I have seen some things. I like spending time with her. Maybe I need to see the weird lady. Honestly, I haven't seen her in the shop for some time. With the thought of her, I went home. Noah was sitting in front of my door. - Hey, what are you doing here alone? - I decided to wait for you. - Did something happen? - No, I'm in the mood. - No, you are drunk. What happened? Where have you been? You walked out of the shop in good condition. - There was a small party. - Tell me that you didn't do anything stupid. - Hold on. I have a message. - It's from Natalie. What did you send her? - Nothing. - Give me that. Let's see. - You don't know my password. - Face ID, my friend. How could you send her this? Now she hates you. - She is not the only girl in the world. - But she liked you. What happened? - I don't know. I had fun. - With who? - No one knows. - I still don't understand how it happened. You never do things like this. - I'm fine. - No, you're not. - Yes, I am. I didn't say anything and took him inside. Noah will sleep at home tonight. I texted his parents to let them know he would be with me. Of course, I didn't tell them what happened. I will do everything to figure this out. My friend has never done such things. I don't understand what went wrong. He treats girls with respect. No matter what I say to Natalie, she won't believe me. He messed up and has to deal with this alone. I will try to help him, but I can't promise anything. There is a chance that she won't listen to me. Maybe Melanie can help me with this. I hope that things will get clear.
