Chapter 0001
•ESTELLE•
“Lana?”
I stood at the door for a moment, looking at Asher in bed with his new assistant, and felt my stomach twisting in disgust.
I trusted him to keep our wedding vows, which we had sworn a few hours ago, and not sleep with someone else before our honeymoon.
Seeing them broke my heart, so I quickly shut the door and walked away.
“Lana, wait!” he called behind me, but I left the hotel and went to my car outside the driveway.
I took a deep breath, wiped my tears, and roared the engine to life before driving home.
“Lana!” A distant voice called behind me, but I was long gone.
When I got home, I found Asher’s mother and two older sisters about to leave the house.
They probably thought Asher and I had changed our minds about our honeymoon trip to Ohio. But why would they care? They never wanted Asher to marry me.
His mother and Raya never liked me. They believed Asher deserved someone better than I was. Someone in his class.
“What happened? Why are you here?” Raya asked as she looked at my torn wedding gown, which had ripped when I was getting into my car.
“There’s no honeymoon. I found Asher with another woman in his hotel room.” I stopped in front of them, hoping for their sympathy since I was still married to Asher.
Kaitlyn, Asher’s mother, laughed. “My goodness, you’ve broken up already? I knew you wouldn’t be able to handle my son. He’s not in your class, Lana. Look at you, crying over a man who probably saw something better in another woman.”
“Stop, Mom,” Raya chuckled. “She will cry again.”
“Who cares? We told her not to be with my son, but she didn’t listen. This should teach her a lesson about being with a man who’s not in her class. We don’t even know her family. They may be living in a shack.”
“I’m sorry, Lana.” Eva leaned forward, placing her hand on my shoulder. “I’ll speak with my brother and reprimand him for what he did. Do you need any help getting ready for the honeymoon?”
“What honeymoon?” Her mother scolded her. “Do you want to drag this poor thing to Ohio with your brother, who might have met someone better than her?”
“That’s not fair, Mother. Asher loves her, and he wouldn’t have married her if he didn’t. If he doesn’t make his marriage work, he will never get married to anyone again, and he will never stop sleeping around.”
“Let him sleep around if he wants!” Kaitlyn snapped. “I never wanted Lana to be my daughter-in-law. She’s a leech who wants to suck my son dry of his money and leave him with nothing. I know her type.”
“Stop playing Mother Teresa, Eva. It doesn’t suit you. If you loved Asher, you would know the woman he should marry. We aren’t a charity case.” Raya scoffed as she turned her back and walked inside the house.
“You have twenty-four hours to leave my house, Lana. I hope I won’t have to drag you out myself,” Kaitlyn sneered.
I leaned toward her and scoffed. “I found Asher in bed with his new assistant. He seems to have a type. You’d better pray she’s not the leech who will suck Asher dry of his money.”
I walked past her and went inside the house.
I headed straight to my bedroom with Asher and locked the door behind me.
When I heard footsteps and arguing outside the door, I leaned my back against the door and breathed.
“Leave her, Asher. She insulted me and your sisters. She called us fools for begging her to forgive you for what you did.”
“She’s my wife!” Asher’s voice roared in the hallway. “I made a mistake, and I’ll fix it.”
“You did nothing wrong, Asher. If she wants to leave the house, let her leave and find someone else to marry. You know you can be with any woman you want. Your father was Daniel Stormfield, and he was the senator of the state before he died.”
“Lana!” Asher called out as he knocked on the door, ignoring his mother. “Baby, please open the door.”
“I won’t allow you to make a fool of yourself, Asher.”
I turned around and opened the door. When Asher saw me, he fell on his knees. “I’m sorry, Lana. Please don’t leave me.”
“Oh, Lana,” Raya scoffed behind him. “How could you stand there and pretend as if you’re innocent? You cheated as well, so you’re no better than my brother.”
I furrowed my brow in confusion as I looked at her. I didn’t know what she was talking about because I had done nothing behind Asher’s back.
Asher tilted his head and looked at Raya. “What are you talking about?” He asked.
“Lana should tell you herself how she slept with your driver when they got stuck in the elevator for six hours. Even the footage from the Stormfield’s Construction Company shows them walking out hand in hand.” She looked at me and smirked.
That b***h. I knew she didn’t like me, but I never thought she hated me to this extent.
“Is it true? Did you sleep with my driver?” Asher got up from the floor and leaned toward me.
Raya and her mother planned the whole thing. They wanted to give Asher a reason to leave me and not apologize for what he did.
“Wayne held my hand because I couldn’t walk. I was nauseous the whole time in the elevator, and he helped me so I wouldn’t trip and fall on the stairs when the elevator doors opened,” I answered.
That was three days before our wedding. Before I found out I was pregnant.
“She’s lying, Asher. Wayne here can confirm the truth.” Raya tilted her head as Wayne walked inside, avoiding eye contact with me.
When Asher saw him, he pinned him against the wall and choked him. “Did you sleep with my wife?”
“Tell him the truth, Wayne. He won’t do anything to you,” Raya encouraged him.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Stormfield—” Wayne choked, panting. “Miss Lana seduced and paid me to sleep with her in the elevator. She told me not to say anything to anyone.”
