Chapter 6

Outside the hotel, Yolanda wept and said, "Michael, I beg you, don't make me suffer such humiliation again. I can't bear it." Michael gently wiped her tears and asked softly, "Yolanda, do you really want to attend that dinner?" Yolanda replied angrily, "Who wouldn't want to go? Didn't you see how eagerly my parents were looking forward to it? But what can you do to get an invitation? Can you really get one?" "I have the capability!" Michael's tone was firm. Yolanda felt Michael was lying and turned to leave. "Why can't you trust me just once?" Michael asked. Yolanda responded, "That's just how you are. How can I believe you?" Michael smiled, "I promise you will attend the banquet. I will make it happen!" Yolanda nodded slightly, "Alright, I'll trust you this time. If you break your promise, there will be no relationship between us anymore!" Michael said with a grin, "It's a deal then!" Yolanda wiped her tears and said, "So, not only can I go to the dinner, but I can also announce to everyone that it was my husband who got the invitation!" "Yes, you should get ready for it. I need to make a call." Once the call was connected, Michael said, "Mario, inform the mayor that I will personally attend the banquet tomorrow night." "Really? General, you agreed! That's wonderful! I was worried you wouldn't show the mayor any respect!" "Alright, I'll attend, but I don't want someone to attend my banquet…" "Understood, General, I'll handle it!" Back in the hotel lobby, Michael saw Yolanda proudly holding her head high, like a peacock displaying its beautiful feathers. She had already spread the news. Countless eyes were now focused on Michael. "How did he get that invitation?" "Was it through improper means?" "Maybe just to show off, at any cost!" Andrew, with a mocking smile, said, "You don't know the value of this invitation exceeds 1 million dollars. Nate's family still owes two to three million dollars. How could they possibly buy such an invitation?" The Kunderas discussed the matter amongst themselves. As the formal family dinner began, dishes were served one after another. "Nate's family could be satisfied with just a bowl of noodles. Why are they still being served so many dishes?" John asked curiously. Andrew sneered, "Give them a grand meal. You can't let others say Grandpa is too stingy." Laughter echoed from the other four tables, while the four at Michael's table remained silent. Eileen cast a disdainful glance at Michael and felt humiliated today. They dared not leave without permission and could only endure the humiliation. Andrew held his glass, walked through Michael and stopped in front of Yolanda. "Yolanda, I once considered introducing my brother to you to give you a better home. He's much better than I am, but you're not fortunate enough now. Your choice is truly disappointing!" Nate and Eileen sighed repeatedly. If Michael hadn't shown up, Yolanda could have married Andrew's brother, and their family would have risen quickly. Now, all they could do was be envious of others. As the family dinner ended, all feelings of jealousy and helplessness vanished. Kenny commanded, "Tonight, I will discuss the future of the Kunderas in depth and the details of the upcoming banquet. Pay attention! This will benefit your development." Nate and Eileen looked at Kenny eagerly, hoping the Kunderas could help improve their lives. However, Kenny's words brought them back to reality. "You should go home." Nate hesitated, "Dad, I..." "Enough. We don't need you here, especially with Michael just out of prison. It could bring bad luck. I don't want my villa to be tainted!" Kenny said coldly and led the others away. Before leaving, Andrew, Molly, and the others approached Michael and waved their invitations proundly. "Don't disappoint us. If you don't get in tomorrow, don't say you know us. That would be too embarrassing." Michael responded calmly with a smile, "It's not certain yet. Who will or won't get in is still undecided." "Well, we'll just wait and see," they said proudly and left. Nate and the others could only sigh helplessly. They regretted bringing Michael along, especially since he had just come out of prison. Back home, Michael chose to sleep on the couch, but Yolanda insisted he sleep in the bed. Eventually, Michael settled into a comfortable bed. Yolanda sat at her desk and planned for the Ecological Project in the west of S City. Although the chances of success seemed slim, she wore an optimistic smile. "What are you working on?" Michael asked curiously as he walked in. "I'm designing a plan for the Ecological Park project in the west of S City and planning to bid on it, even though the chances of success are minimal," Yolanda replied gently with a smile. The next day arrived. As the time for the dinner approached, Yolanda's patience wore thin. "Michael, I trust you completely and have put all my hopes in you. But now, how can I believe you can make it happen? What about the invitation?" "I thought you would be working on it, but there's been no news since last night. Are invitations just going to fall from the sky?" Yolanda finally couldn't hold back. Even Nate grew anxious and joined in, "What are you waiting for? Yolanda has already told everyone. If you can't keep this promise, our life in the Kunderas will be very difficult." Michael looked at the time and calmly said, "The time is almost here. Come with me." They drove in Nate's car to the venue of the General Dark Knight's banquet, Cloudary Villa. "Yolanda, let me show you whether I was lying or not," Michael said, holding Yolanda's hand and leading her to the entrance.
