John came to collect the repayment in person. "It's impressive that you managed to gather 2.8 million dollars. I was wondering if you could pull it off," he said with a mocking tone.
Nate glared at him, "Don't worry about it! Here's the 2.8 million dollars. I've paid it off!"
However, John's tone turned malicious as he smiled. "Who said it's only 2.8 million? Look at this promissory note. You owe us interest, so the total is now 5 million dollars."
"What? Five million? How is that possible?" Nate and Yolanda were stunned.
Eileen asked, "Dad lent us the money unconditionally. How can he charge us interest?"
"Eileen, you're too naive. Dad lent us the money out of goodwill, but business is business. Don't confuse family feelings with business."
