I put the silly thought out of my head, I think it’s time for proper introductions, I can’t keep calling the doctor lady, Doctor lady! And I can’t keep calling the hunky bearded man, Bearded man! And I most certainly couldn’t call him, Hunky Bearded Man to his face.
I place my cup on the table next to me, it causes me to flinch and I interrupt what the doctor lady is telling the bearded man about why it’s a good idea for me to get out of bed and move around.
They both hear me flinch and look at me with big, expectant eyes. That’s when the older gentleman comes into the room.
I stare back at them with big eyes, as if to say with just my facial expression, that, I’m okay it was just a flinch.
The older gentleman then says, “what is your name dear girl?”
It crosses my mind for a split second that maybe they aren’t the good people they are trying to come across as, maybe they have kidnapped me and done this to me. After all, no matter how hard I try to remember, I just can’t seem to recall what has happened since Callie and I got to the bus station where we were supposed to meet Callie’s new boyfriend.
Now, what was his name?
I can’t remember, and I look back and forth between the three staring faces, waiting for an answer. Doctor lady gives me a reassuring smile and a nod of her head. Oh man, she really doesn’t look like someone who would kidnap a person.
For goodness sake Cammie just tell them, after all you want to know their names too.
I unceremoniously blurt out, “Cammie!” In a much louder tone of voice, then I was expecting it to come out.
Everyone was quiet for a moment and then the older gentleman said, “nice to meet you Cammie, I am Sheriff of these parts and this is my wife Willow she is a doctor as I expect she has mentioned to you already. Everyone calls me Sheriff but please feel free to call me Henry or Mr Penser. This young man here who seems to have lost his tongue is Robin, this is his here bedroom we’re all standing in at the moment”.
I look to the good looking, manly, bearded man, “Robin, not what I was expecting”.
I feel the the colour red flush my cheeks, I am utterly mortified, did I just say that out aloud?
Robin reply’s, “not what you were expecting? What were you expecting?”
I look at him and he is looking straight into my eyes and I feel the embarrassment of the blush on my face as if it were a shiny, bright red break light of a car, and as it gets pushed harder to stop the car, the red light shines brighter. I feel this happening to my face and I just wish I could put the brakes on now and make it stop!
“I...I don’t know what I meant by it, I...I’ve never met a MAN named Robin before. I mean... Robin can be used as a name by men and woman,” OMG, I want the ground to swallow me now, “I mean... it’s just... I’ve never met anyone named Robin before. It’s an unusual name.”
“That’s what I mean!” I finish exasperated, “That’s all I meant!”
He is still looking at me with the same intensity from before and luckily Doctor Willow steps in to save me with a, “ come now dear you are pushing yourself too hard, you are all flushed, you need to lay back down and get some rest. We will try getting you up and moving a little later after you’ve had a nap. I’m going to make you some breakfast and these two are going to go into the living room and are going to try get that rescue helicopter on the radio.”
She turns to the two men, “aren’t you?”
They both look at her and nod in agreement. Sheriff doesn’t need to be told twice, if his wife says move, he moves, so with that he turns on his heals and leaves the room.
Robin hovers for a second, “do you need anything? Can I get you anything?”
I answer with a shake of the head, “no I’m fine thank you”.
He turns to walk out, then turns back, “ Are you comfortable?”
I reply, “yes, thank you”.
That seems to appease him and he smiles that lovely smile of his and turns and leaves me to ponder on how I actually got to be here, on an Alaskan mountain, during the biggest snow storm of the century without my sister?
