It was Piper, peering at her with concern. “Is everything all right?” she asked as she followed Beatrice inside.
Beatrice frowned. “If Meadow didn’t give you the message that she’s got Will, I will absolutely string her up.”
Piper said, “Don’t. She delivered it. But she told me what happened and I wanted to run by and make sure you were both all right. That must have been a real shock, having seen Mrs. Billows and then having her pass away like that.”
Wyatt said, “It was really tough for both of us to wrap our heads around since we’d just seen her. She was being very kind and showed Will her goldfinches. But we’re all right. Piper, I hope it’s all right, but I was just about to leave to head for the church and get some work done in my office.”
