I let go of Mom’s tight embrace and faced her, wondering if I just heard her wrong.
“Mom, it’s me, Kei.”
“Kei?” She frowned and looked back at the observation window.
“That woman inside the ICU is Katniss. And this is Theo, her husband.”
Theo turned to us. He greeted Mom.
“Hi, Mrs. Hepburn. I am Theo Cowell, Katniss’ husband and her guardian.”
If Mom was shocked to see me, then she was more shocked upon hearing what she just heard. She shook her head.
