Lilith Stark.
Swiss pack.
Friday, 3pm.
Two years ago, I thought Everest was my happily ever after. In my eyes, he was the perfect person to be my mate.
He flings my hands away and I stare into his emotionless eyes. This is not the man I fell in love with. I take a quick breath before speaking to him again. I am already hysterical as it is.
“We are supposed to get married tomorrow.” Tell me, what have I done? I’ll apologize…I’ll never do it again.
“Everest please…this can’t be real!” I say to a man whom has rejected me already.
“Your parents forced you on me, Lilith. I was never in love with you! I just accepted you as my mate so that they would allow me to be the next Alpha.” He spits.
“You can’t be serious?” I ask, a slight increase in my cracked voice as I sharply stare at the promise ring he gave to me.
“All this time where we’ve shared our fears and weaknesses, all this time when I showed all my vulnerabilities…you had already decided to leave me!?” I say, my eyes are reddened with tears.
“As the new Alpha of the pack, I can do whatever I want. I can have any girl in the pack that I want!” He says, not moved by the tears on my face.
My pupils shrink as he says that without guilt. I am in complete disbelief—he used me.
“So, all this time you were lying to me?All of those vows, all your promises were nothing but lies?” I ask, beating my chest.
“You are Alpha only because of me! If you never lied to my parents that you were in love with me. They would have never been in support of making you Alpha!” I scream in aggravation and Everest hits me.
I fall to the ground with a thud. My cheeks become swollen instantly because he used so much strength to hit me.
I can’t believe he just hit me. How did I not see his true colors all this time? How could I not see that he was a complete bastard?
“Don’t ever raise your voice at me! I am Alpha!” Everest yells and I scuttle back in fear because of how drastic he has changed.
I don’t recognize him anymore. I don’t know him.
He bends to the floor with a deadly look in his eyes and grabs my face.
“Everest, no!”
I resist but he is stronger than me and I have to surrender as he exerts his strength.
“All these years, I have had to put up with your stupid family whose rules choked the living daylight out of me. Yes, you’re right. I am Alpha because of you.”
“And that is what I hate the most. Do you think I want to see your face every single day?” He says, gritting his teeth and I cannot even remember the smile that he used to have on his face.
“You used me…” I stammer.
“If you had allowed me to have s*x with you. Maybe, you wouldn’t be in this position right now.” Everest says and his eyes take a travel to my chest where my cleavage is showing.
He licks his lips and I frown, trying to get his hand off my chin and that despicable smirk off his face.
Is this really the prick I wanted to marry? Is this really the person my parents helped in becoming Alpha.
“I deserve to have your body and nothing is going to stop me from having it now.” Everest says, and I shake my head in disapproval as he pulls me closer to him.
As I struggle to get away, the door of his room opens roughly.
“Alpha!”
John shouts and barges into the room. He is Everest’s new beta and he looks at me on the floor for a second. There is sweat on his forehead, he is breathing heavily and his hands are shaking.
“What the hell is it!?” Everest growls as he stands on his feet.
“Our…our pack is being ambushed.” He says.
The moment John answers I hear a loud, antagonizing scream from outside. It is followed by howling cries which are not the signature sound of our pack, the Swiss pack.
I turn and from the window, I see our pack members running as they are being chased by wolves whose swift and speedy movements I recognized to be of Lycan bloodline. And as far as I know, there is only one Lycan pack in the city but they don’t have any problem with us.
Or do they?
Everest immediately steps back and he looks dumfounded.
“Everest, its the Lycan of the Darksworth pack!” John says and Everest begins to fidget as he looks around the room in fear.
“You have to run! If the Alpha finds you, he will torture you to death for what you did to his mate.” John says and Everest wipes sweat off his forehead and dashes out of the door.
John rushes out of the room after him.
I am still on the floor, confused and heartbroken about the situation I just witnessed. The Alpha of the Darksworth pack? Everest did something to the Alpha's mate?
I get up on my feet and rush outside. The pack is in complete turmoil, everyone is running and screaming. There is smoke, fire and I can barely see anything.
“I can’t see anyone I know…there is not even enough time to look at anyone.”
First, I have to find my parents to make sure they are alright. I’m sure they are searching for me. We have to get out of here until we figure out what is going on in our pack.
Despite the smoke that’s in the air, I begin to run towards my parents house. At every corner, there is a gigantic wolf twice the size of the wolves in our pack. I think about the few seconds of conversation Everest had with John.
He has something to do with it. And as Alpha, he is supposed to here, protecting our pack members. I cough, placing a hand against my nose and I notice something in the thick, ash, colored smoke.
At that moment, the first thing I hear is my wolf telling me to run as fast as I can. I move back, but it draws nearer. It is the most gigantic wolf I have ever seen in my life, and as it comes closer to me…I can feel
everything beneath us rise.
The wolf is black as night, shiny fur—golden eyes like the crest of our pack. It looks like a wolf of a powerful breed. A wolf that is supposed to be extinct. It can only be one thing.
“The Alpha of the Darksworth pack.”
“Run!” My wolf yells from the inside and I begin to.
I can feel it behind me because the floor is vibrating as it follows me. I dash into the woods to somehow lose the target at my back but Instead, the amount of predators chasing me increases.
Why are they chasing me?
My boots splashes cold water into the air as I run as fast as I can. I look back in fear, and according to the growling and howling sounds, they are almost right behind me. My heart is beating and pounding as I run in the direction of the tall trees.
I run and run until I can barely feel my legs anymore. I stop behind a huge tree in the woods when I do not hear the howling sounds of the Darksworth wolves anymore.
I roughly inhale and exhale, tears streaming out of my eyes as I grab a handful of soil…squeezing the sand in my hands to express my fear in a silent way.
The only thing I can hear is my own breathing, it feels like my heart is about to rip out of my chest as every second passes. I move slowly, my back is pressed against the bark of a tree and I peep to watch behind me.
It’s empty. I stand on my feet, ready to run off once again until I look in front and there are at least six wolves looking at me.
I gasp, cornered and scared when someone hits me from behind. I pass out, my head falling into a puddle of water while I stare at the cloudless sky.
However, before closing my eyes…there is a man with the same golden eyes of that wolf, staring at me. He has a tattoo on his shoulder showing the crest of the Darksworth pack.
With voice that sounds like thunder, he says to me.
“A mate for a mate.”
