The sun sank behind the verdant hills, casting its dying rays over the beach. A fire flickered and popped, sending glowing sparks dancing into the air, like hundreds of tiny faeries. The waves crashed and kissed along the shore, showering it with foamy kisses. A shrouded figure lay on a rough wooden table, the soft ocean breeze ruffling the white sheet. Voices lifted on the air, soprano mingling with tenor. The words were foreign, but the meaning was undeniable. Tears blurred my vision as their voices rose and blended, my heart breaking all over again at the images they conjured with the sorrowful dirge.
