Night had well and truly fallen by the time the trio came together. The firelight flickered over their faces, illuminating the shock and pleasure on the older woman, the pride on the man, the glow of hope on the younger woman. Their joy drew a deep scowl from the man on the hill. His eyes never left them, gloved hands curling into fists as an icy rage burned through him. His teeth ground together, eyes narrowing. What right did they have for celebration? A soft growl sounded at his side as the dog moved to peer over the edge of the rise. Hackles raised, his lips curled back to reveal sharp white canines. The man chuckled coolly as he patted the dog's dark head, ran his hand over the coarse fur. “Soon, Fuil. We'll make our move soon. Let them have this moment. It will be their last.”
