Zaira’s POV
I felt my heart overflow with a certain emotion when I saw Ares flinch at the sound of Damon’s voice. It seemed almost like an instinctive reaction.
My heart burst forward with hope. I walked up to him and grabbed his hand.
Ares gripped my hand back and stared into my eyes.
“Are you in there?” I asked with a shaky voice. I didn’t even know what I was asking for.
I saw something flash in Ares’s eyes. It was so quick that I almost didn’t catch it but I was sure in that moment.
Damon was still alive.
