9 KILLIAN I wiped my mouth as I came out of the forest—I had been so tense and angry, I had played with my food before killing it. I purposely chased it for almost half an hour. If I hadn’t killed it, the poor deer would have died of exhaustion and a heart attack. I glanced up at the darkening sky. It was getting chillier and chillier, and soon we would see the first snowfall. The forecast had promised a snowstorm, but it had just missed us, wreaking havoc about fifty miles north of here and upstate. Last night, after we came back from the vampire covens’ meeting, I couldn’t sleep. So I went running with Shane to burn off my pent-up energy. I had fed then, and I fed now.
