12 KILLIAN “Killian!” I turned in bed and instinctively reached for Lavinia. A cold pillow and sheets greeted me. “Killian, wake up!” I forced my eyes to open, my body to sit up, but I felt like I was swimming in syrup, and drowning. No command from my brain to my body was working. Panic seized my chest. A hand landed on my shoulder, and it was as if a curtain had been pulled back, and I was allowed to move again. Gasping, I opened my eyes and shot up from the bed. Shane brought his hands up. “Hey, easy, man.” I looked around. It was still dark out and the only light in the bedroom was the one coming from the open door leading to the hallway. But screams and other sounds reached my ears. “What’s going on?” I glanced back at the empty bed. “Where’s Lavinia?” Shane’s brow furrowed
