6 The gravel that lined both sides of the blacktop acted as a slight buffer from the heat that rose in waves from the airstrip due to the unusually hot weather that seemed to have settled over Baja Norte the past few days. The asphalt was the only thing, besides a small two-story building that served as a tower for the private airstrip and the various green plants that flourished in the Mediterranean climate of Ensenada, that were in his line of sight.
