I reached home in the evening. I entered my home. "Hi, Angel," Emma greeted me. "Hi, Emma." I greeted her back climbing up the stairs to my room. Emma is the only one who has been with me since birth, yet I could not wholeheartedly consider her my family. I always misbehaved with her, never cared for her, still, she never scolded me with the same comment since we landed here. But that one terrible incident changed everything in between us. I clearly remember I was 15 years old at that time, it was Christmas week. Ben my driver and other staff were out to their hometowns on Christmas break. Emma and I were arguing about the Christmas celebration. Emma wants to throw a small Christmas party with our neighbours and I, as usual, wants to celebrate Christmas alone at home. Our discussion gradually turned to a serious argument. I was so heartless saying those words to her. Emma, it's my house and only I will decide what to do. I frowned and ran to my room, locked myself in my room. Emma kept knocking at the door for long, but I was so stubborn that I didn't realise how badly I treated her so far. she lent her whole life to take care of me. She didn't produce her family just because of the promise she made to my mother. I slept crying for a long...at about 1 in the night, I woke with a loud bang sound. I hurriedly open the door and furiously started looking for Emma. "Emma...Emma..." My world came down crashing. When I saw Emma lying unconscious on the floor at the other end of the stairs. Tears rolled out of my eyes. "Emma, what happened to you?" I panicked. My heart jumped to my mouth. I tried to wake her up, but she didn't respond. "Emma please wake up...please...I am sorry Emma...you can't do that to me...please wake up." I panicked more when she even responded to water on her face. I tried to call Ben but his number was not reachable that time, my brain stopped working for a moment, the only help that came to my mind was the neighbours. I barefooted ran out in the snow to the neighbour, I ferociously knocked at their door. A woman opened the door. Two words came out of my mouth, "Emma...Help." I was in trauma. That woman was Neha's Mom, Mrs Kapoor. She sent Mr Kapoor and Harry to help Emma and Mr Kapoor took her to the trauma centre. My heart kept beating faster and faster. I wasn't ready to lose her. "No more loss, Jesus...I promise I will never misbehave with her...I am sorry God." I keep on praying. Mrs.Kapoor's phone rang and he informed that Emma got a heart stroke and is undergoing immediate surgery. My heartache with the bad news. Neha and Mrs. Kapoor consoled me as I couldn't hold my tears. That day, I learnt making friends with the neighbour is also necessary, and Kapoors are the best neighbour, anyone could ever have. The next morning Mrs. Kapoor took me to visit Emma at the hospital. Emma was under observation, we were not allowed to see her personally in the ICU. I saw her from a small glass window. Her face was covered with an oxygen mask. A glucose drip was pierced in her one arm and lots of other monitoring apparatus was attached all over her body. I couldn't see her like that, I ran away in the corridor crying. Mrs Kapoor followed and hugged me tightly, "She is fine Demi, Your mom is fine." "Mom...?" I was in shock. I wanted to tell them she is not my mother, but nothing came out of my mouth, thinking about mom and Emma. I cried louder. "MOM...," Emma stayed in the hospital for a week and I stayed with the Kapoors. Ben also came back. Neha and I become friends and Kapoor's took excellent care of mine. Only Harry has some attitude problem with me. When Emma came back. I decorated the house the same way she wanted but unfortunately, it wasn't Christmas eve. It's New Year eve. Kapoor's were our only guests. "Welcome back, Emma". I welcomed her with a bouquet of her favourite Roses. Emotions well up in her eyes. "I am sorry, Emma." I apologised hugging her. She hugged me back. "I love you, my Angel." She said giving me a peck on my cheeks. "How are feeling now?" I worriedly asked as she has undergone heart surgery. "Better...much better now." She said looking around the decorated house and Kapoor's. She thanked Mr. and Mrs. Kapoor for taking care of me in her absence. We all talked and giggled. I kept stealing glances at Emma. "Angel," she called me. I slowly walked to her. She made me sit next to her. "You need not feel guilty of whatever has happened!" she exclaimed holding my hand. "I am sorry Emma, I never thought of hurting you, but I did...I am sorry," I sobbed lying on her lap. "It's ok," she said running her fingers in my hair. "I thought, I lost you," I honestly confessed. "How can I leave my angel? "she said caressing me. "Yes, Emma", she was the one who kept praying for you all the time. "Demi is really a sweet girl." Mrs Kapoor said. "She is indeed the best daughter," Emma replied looking at me. "I am sorry Emma." I apologised again and tears rolled out of my eyes. That night I slept with Emma. I don't want her to be out of my sight for even a single second. Ben was also surprised to see the drastic change in my behaviour. The fear that kept bombing in my heart made me value her. I am too used to having Emma around me, I learn to live without Jasper and Mr. Williams but I can't think of living without Emma. I admit that. Back to the present ... I freshen up and slipped into my pyjamas. Emma brought me a glass of Juice and a veg sandwich. "Neha told me you didn't eat anything in the lunch," Emma said putting the tray on the table. "Oh my BBC friend," I smirked. "Yeah, that time was not feeling hungry, but right now I am starving," I said, grabbing the sandwich. "Did you take your medicine on time?" I asked her with a half-filled mouth. She nodded. "You need not worry about me, Angel. I am wonderful" she said, giving me the glass of juice. she stayed with me until I finished the whole plate of sandwiches and Juice. She always made me finish the food. She always calls me angel, but for me, she is a real angel.
