LACE'S POV
"Oh, why didn't you eat too much?" Mom wondered, noticing I hadn't eaten much yet.
"Mom, was your first crush's father?" I suddenly asked her with no hesitation. My father then glanced at me, amused by my question.
"Does this have to do something about the guy you told us who doesn't like you back?" my mother declared.
"Never mind, mom," I gently responded. It does not appear to be persuasive.
"What's his full name, sweety?" Dad inquired, clearly interested in Kurt.
My straightforward response was, "Kurt Uriel la Pierre, Dad."
"Why, hon?" Mom asked as she turned to face Dad.
"Just curious, you see, Lacey looks exactly like you when you're her age. I remember you in the past," he added, smiling. I became interested in learning about the two's love story.
"Why, Dad? Tell me, what was mom like before?" I laughed, staring at Mom, who still seemed delighted.
Mom warned me, "Oh, sweety, you don't want to find out."
"I'm the only man your mother ever loved, sweety, and she refused to look at other guys even though I'm pushing her away," Dad explained boldly but teasingly.
When I heard that, I laughed. I don't think my mom behaved like that because it doesn't resemble her.
"Dad, I thought you were the one chasing after Mom?" I'm intrigued.
"Yeah, after I discovered her father had been trying to get her married to the man they wanted for her."
"Oh wow! Your love is amazing! "I voiced my delight at the knowledge.
"Yeah, but my parents can't make me marry Dave, sweety!" I love your father, and, like you, I was so stubborn!" Mom clarified.
The conversation made the three of us burst into laughter. I admire my parents' love for one another. Because of them, I believe in the existence of Love.
I was getting ready for bed when I realized to send Kurt a message. I'll bother him about what he wants and what he doesn't want. I thought about what I should text him. The kind that will make him think of me.
I casually typed "Hi" on my phone and sent it with my eyes closed, as though I was speculating on whether or not he would reply.
It took a few moments for me to not receive a response. That's when I started to feel a little embarrassed. Maybe it's not that he's not used to texting, but I would persuade him with my own guts.
Eh, since I don't always see him with his phone in his hand. I'm not even sure if he always has it with him.
My phone rang just as I was about to fall asleep. I'm not going to look. I fear. I don't want to assume it's from Kurt. If it comes from someone else, would I be disappointed? I couldn't think of anything else except to look at who it was from. Oh my goodness! From someone I didn't expect to hear back from.
Kurt.
How the hell did you get my number?” the text says.
I typed a response.
That's not important anymore.
He responded right away.
It is for me.
Even his text shows arrogance. Why were you so different, Kurt?
I typed a response to him.
"We can discuss it alone.
It took a few moments for him to respond.
I don't want to have another argument with you.
Even if I'm frustrated, I don't change my opinion of him; I'm just texting him, and even if it's against his will, I'm content; it looks like I can sleep peacefully now.
I considered sending him a last-minute message, but I'm not sure if he'll be startled by what I'm going to say.
I really like you a lot.
Sent.
There. Finally, I've said it.
I was like counting lizards on the roof even though I didn't see anything while I waited for his reply.
Five minutes had elapsed. No reply from him.
Ten minutes. He still did not respond.
Maybe it's enough for him to know that I really like him coming from me. Unlike if he knows and hears from others. I'm not sure when it was circulated or how it got to Kurt. All I know is that I don't give a damn.
I was ready to close my eyes when my phone rang again, prompting me to pick it up and read the message, which was, of course, from Kurt. Isn't it still sleeping? What time is it exactly? It's ten o'clock at night.
I don't like you, and I never will.
It hurts. I've heard that before. But if he says it again and again, it becomes somewhat depressing. This was the first time I had feelings for a boy, and it was also the first time a boy had no reactions to me. That's all I've got.
But that doesn't mean I'm going to give up. I'll still find an approach to keep the two of us close. Then I remembered Sheena.
That's right. I know these two typically spend time together, so I'm going to start establishing closeness to Sheena. What if... I'm hoping that opportunities will come in handy this time.
I can fall asleep with a victorious smile on my lips. I'll begin with Sheena tomorrow. At the very least, we now interact on the phone. That is a significant improvement in our relationship. Wow! Big word. Relationship. Coming soon, though.
I considered saying good night to ice up our friendship in the near future.
"Goodnight, baby!

I know it's sleeping at this hour. But I was still hoping he would read my SMS before drifting off. I'm overjoyed with the "babe" compliment. It must be exciting to hear that from Kurt.
My phone abruptly began to ring. I was tense.
BFF, good night.
Shai wrote the text. I expected it was from Kurt; oh, my God. Are you expecting too much, girl? He was either sleeping or reading your text and laughing since he would never like someone like you.
Well, only time will tell.
