The Promised Child
Chapter 1 Fear Darkness surrounded her like a void of emptiness, like a black hole sucking in everything her eyes couldn't see. The sound of her feet pounding on the ground mimicked the rhythm of her heartbeat thumping against her chest. Her feet were bleeding and stinging, and her legs were covered in cuts and bruises and felt heavier by the minute. But she couldn't stop not now, not ever. Her safety and to escape were all she had ever wanted. She had waited so long for this chance. Her mind kept replaying all the pain and torture she had endured, spearing her on. Whilst the rain continued its assaulted on her bare skin, the wind swirled around her, blowing her hair into her face, blocking her view. She had to keep moving find help, find somewhere to hide. It was only then, whilst looking around her she suddenly noticed she was no longer on the path.In her haste she hadn't felt the roughness of the forest floor on her bare feet; she no longer shivered from the cold; she was running on pure adrenaline from her fear, praying to find somewhere to hide. She spotted a bush full of berries and decided to rub them into her skin, hoping to mask her scent. She then spotted a tree that had a hole in the trunk, she could easily squeeze into the trunk. She was hoping to use it as a skin shield from the elements as well as hiding from her tormenters. Once inside, she felt the damp moss underfoot and felt bugs moving around. The sound of small mammals nibbling away, at the leaves, rustling away, whilst they were also sheltering from storm. At least the rain and wind were no longer lashing at her frail skin. She heard a loud howl echoing through the forest, and then the howls of the pack warriors responding in sync. The sign that their search had been futile. She breathed a sign of relief. Now, if she could only survive the night, she might have a chance at a life. She was awoken by the sunlight shining through the gaps in the bark. Listening intently, she slowly crept out of the tree. Before frantically checking her surroundings. The sun felt warm on her body, and she decided to try and find some water to wash herself and her clothes. She made her way to a brooke and decided to bathe as quickly as she could before following her plan to get to the human town. Only there could she disappear and not be on any pack territory or rogue lands. She would get a job in a small bakery, an apartment, and spend her days baking and reading and all the things she had always dreamed of. She no longer had a family, a pack she was alone, an orphan and all before her 18th birthday. As she emerged from the water and cleared her eyes she smelt an overwhelming smell of rosemary and thyme, assuming she was near the herb gardens of the neighbouring pack, she shrugged it off and proceeded to put on her now clean dry clothes and started ready to walk to the local human town. Her reflection looked back at her from the surface of the water. It showed her skin was sallow, and her small frame showed how frail and weak she had become. She was a shell of herself . 5ft 4 is small for a she wolf, but that had never bothered her. Her dad always called her his "Little button" due to her size and the fact that her eyes were brown like chocolate buttons. Her long dark brown hair now hung behind her in a tangled mess she had tried to create a bun using only her hair and twigs to make it look somewhat tidy and keep it out of her eyes. It was unkept and was in desperate need of a good cut and shampoo. As she started walking, she suddenly felt faint. It dawned on her that she had not eaten for days. However the realisation hit her a little too late as her vision became blurred, sounds became distant, and her head felt dizzy, then darkness flooded her mind as she fell to the ground.
