(1) L.F. Academy
Ryana
The large castle loomed over me as I struggled with my suitcases. The castle was actually just the main building of Lotus Fangreath Academy, or L.F. Academy for short. L.F. Academy was a relatively new, prestigious boarding school for the Lotus wolf pack and the Fangreath vampire clan. The two used to be at war with each other, once upon a time, but about two decades ago, we decided to call a truce in hopes of no more bloodshed and in honor of that truce, the alpha of the Lotus pack and the king of the Fangreath clan created the school in hopes of us younger members forming bonds and trust with one another I was a member of the Lotus pack I was a she-wolf and a senior at L.F. Academy I was also dorm advisor for the scholarship students here as I was also a scholarship student if there was one thing the Lotus and Fangreath had in common it was their never ending wealth, most packs and clans in the north were wealthy but Lotus and Fangreath were exceptionally so, unfortunately for me, I was one of the handful of lotus pack members who weren't drowning in wealth. I wasn't dirt poor, but compared to the other people in this pack, I might as well have been. I definitely wasn't wealthy enough to cover the full tuition at this boarding school, hence the scholarship. Other schools existed for people who couldn't afford tuition and couldn't get in on a scholarship, but everyone knew this was the best school: the education was better, the sports were better, and even the cafeteria food was better.
I continued to struggle to get my suitcases up the stairs. I had two suitcases, which were both heavy, but on top of that, one of my suitcases had gotten a broken wheel from the bus ride over here. I was about to curse when a pair of strong hands grabbed hold of both suitcases. My eyes widened as I took in one of the future Alphas of the Lotus Pack. I wasn't sure which one this was, but there were two future alphas of Lotus: Maddox and Mason Lotus. They were identical twins and extremely handsome; they both had hazel, almost golden eyes and tan skin. Their wavy hair was long down to their shoulders and a light brown color. He smiled at me.
"Need some help with these?"
I nodded my head slowly, a bit confused as to why one of the future alphas was helping me. We had never talked before, but we were in the same class. I always had at least one class with one of the future alphas every year, not that they even knew I existed. "Lead the way," he said, nodding his head up the stairs. I walked up the stairs in front of him, leading him toward the girls' scholarship dorms. People on scholarship shared a floor in the main building of the school. The main building consisted of the lobby on the first floor along with the principal and vice principals' offices, with the girls' dorm on the second floor and the boys' dorm on the third. We all had key cards for the elevator that we had to scan; the elevator would then only take you to the floor your card said you were on. There were also buttons on the side of the elevator that allowed the students to buzz up people without key cards from their dorm room, like delivery people and stuff, along with a button to take you back to the lobby. I scanned my card, and the elevator dinged open and took us to the second floor. I was trying really hard not to stare at the man beside me. He looked lost in thought anyway, the elevator opened, and I walked toward my room. The lucky part about being a dorm advisor was that I got a dorm all to myself; it was the only reason I actually applied to be a dorm advisor. I had shared a dorm with the same girl for the past three years, and, needless to say, we didn't really get along. If I hadn't gotten the position, I would have been made to dorm with her again. "This is me," I said, pointing at the door.
He set my suitcases down and smiled. "Well then, I'll see you around then." He turned rather abruptly and began to walk away. "My name is Ryana, by the way," I called out. He lifted his hand and, without turning around, said, "Maddox," as he continued walking. I swiped my key card and entered my room. I looked around happily. I had come a week in advance and decorated my room already; there was an assortment of dark purple and black everywhere. I pulled out my phone and shot out a text to my best friend Evie. She was also a scholarship student; she had arrived here a bit earlier than me. About five minutes later, there was a knock at my door. I opened the door, and Evie launched herself at me. She was about an inch or two taller than my five feet four; she was pale with freckles dotting her whole face and ginger hair. She was skinny and spoke with a bit of an English accent from when she had stayed abroad with her grandparents. Our personalities couldn't be more different, but as they say, opposites attract. She was bubbly and outgoing while I was more reserved and "offbeat," as she had once put it. She liked to sew and wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything baggy, while baggy clothes were sort of my default; in fact, she only wore clothes that she handmade herself, which I had to commend; she would definitely be a top fashion designer one day. I admired how she didn't care what people thought about her, especially through that recycling phase she went through, where she only made her clothes out of recycled materials. She once made a dress completely out of pens; you can imagine how uncomfortable that was. Still, she went through with it and wore it everywhere. She also didn't like physical activities. While I loved dance, all sorts of dance, from ballet to hip hop. I wasn't on the dance team at school, but I did attend a small dance school on the weekends.
"Wow, how did you decorate your dorm so fast? It looks amazing," she said, letting go of me and walking around. The scholarship dorms all consisted of a bedroom and a small bathroom, but the bedrooms, which doubled as the living space, all had two twin-sized bed frames. You could buy your own mattress, or they would provide one for you. However, those were often thin and uncomfortable, but the dorm advisor room came with a bedroom, bathroom, and tiny kitchen along with a small washer and dryer; it was like a tiny studio apartment. I had posters of my favorite band and dance group along with some of my favorite books lined up on my desk, and instead of a twin bed, I had a full bed with my favorite purple comforter that had black flowers decorated along it.
"I came up here last week and decorated. I was so excited I couldn't wait.
"If I had known all of this came with D.A., I would have applied for the position too."
"It wouldn't have mattered; I still would have beaten you in the election anyway," I said smugly, flicking my hair over my shoulder. She scoffed and tried to hit me with a pillow. I caught it and placed it back on my bed neatly.
"I'm kidding, and you know you're welcome in my room any time, especially if you want to use my bathroom. I know you hate sharing with strangers." Unfortunately for Evie, her dorm mate has changed every year, so she hasn't been able to really get comfortable with who she lives with.
"I might take you up on that, especially tonight when we're getting ready," she said as she made her way towards my mini fridge and studied its contents.
"What's tonight?"
"There's a party tonight at one of the private suites," she said. The private suites were for students who could afford the tuition. They were basically two-story houses with pools, servants, and personal security guards that the students who lived there didn't have to share; there was also no curfew or rules on sleepovers for them. I rolled my eyes. "I don't want to go to a party. The new season of Bound Fate comes out tonight, and I was planning on binging it.
"It does?" she asked. I nodded. She thought thoughtfully for a second. It was our favorite show. "Well, we can watch it this weekend. We can have a girls' night; we can even have a secret sleepover. You are the D.A.; no one will know. We have to go to this party; we haven't hung out all summer."
I groaned; there was really no point in arguing with her; it would only stall the inevitable.
"Fine," I said begrudgingly. She jumped up and clapped. "Yes!" she squeeled here i'll help you pick out an outfit; knowing you, you'd just wear your uniform. " She made her way to my suitcases and began unpacking my clothes. I sighed and lay back on my bed, not bothering to help; she'd just say I was in her way anyway. Here goes nothing, I guess.
