(2) Simple meetings

Maddox I pulled into the reserved parking space for Alphas in front of the main building of L.F. Academy. The building was huge; it was basically a castle. I was on my way to a meeting with the principal and the heir to the Fangreath clan, Elliot Fangreath. As I made my way to the stairs leading up to the building, I spotted a she-wolf having trouble with her suitcases. She was tiny for a she-wolf, about five feet four inches, and had mocha brown skin and long black curly hair that fell a little below her shoulders. I felt compelled to help her, so I did. I walked up to her and grabbed hold of her suitcases. When we made eye contact, my heart skipped a beat; she was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. She had the biggest brown eyes, a cute button nose, and soft pouty lips. She also had curves that were making my wolf howl. "Need some help with these?" I asked. I hoped she couldn't hear the nervousness in my voice. I had to play it cool. She nodded, and I smiled. "Lead the way," she began walking up the stairs, leading me to the elevators to the scholarship dorms. Her scent filled the elevator. It smelled heavenly; she smelled like vanilla and earthy rain. I leaned towards her a bit and sniffed her more. I felt a bit like a creep, but her scent was intoxicating. Something was missing, though, as if her scent was incomplete. She probably wasn't of age yet. Wolves didn't get their full scent until they were eighteen. That was also the age that a wolf could find their mate, unlike vampires, who were able to scent out their mates from the moment they went through puberty, so from around twelve to fifteen, my brother and I had yet to find our mate even though we had turned eighteen four months ago. We would probably end up sharing a mate; most multiples did. Vampires also call their mates their sires. Before I knew it, the elevator dinged, signaling we had reached her floor. I wonder, if her scent is this good to me now, and she's not even of age; how would her scent affect me when she turned eighteen? Could she be my- "This is me," she said, breaking me out of my thoughts. "Well, I'll see you around then," I said, turning around a little too fast. I couldn't help it. She was making me nervous. I was usually much more suave than this. "My name is Ryana, by the way," she called out. Ryana — what a beautiful name. I waved without turning around. "Maddox," I wondered if she'd repeat it back to me. I hoped she would. Yeah, this meant something. When was the last time I hoped a girl would say my name? I had to tell Mason. I looked at the time on my watch. Shoot, I was running a little late for my meeting with the principal and Elliot Fangreath, the heir to the Fangreath clan. "Ah, Alpha Maddox, I was wondering where you were," said Principal Honders as I got off the elevator. He was a tall man, almost as tall as an alpha, and surprisingly muscular. Well, I guess it's not all that surprising, considering he used to be a top warrior before he decided he wanted to "shape the minds of the youth." I shook his hand. "Sorry, I got caught up for a second. Shall we take this to your office?" "Yes, Prince Elliot is already there. I just left to look for you. This shouldn't take too long," He said, walking towards his office. When we entered, Elliot was standing by the wall looking through his phone. He was as tall as me, with black, slicked-back hair, red eyes, and pale skin. He was wearing dress pants and a long-sleeve white button-down dress shirt; it was rare to see him in something that wasn't somewhat formal, even on weekends. I wasn't surprised. However, vampires tended to be more regal and elegant, while werewolves were more energetic and wild. He put his phone away when he saw me walk in and held out his hand "Maddox" he greeted nodding his head I shook his hand "Elliot what's up my man, you coming to our party later" I asked we were on pretty good term I wouldn't say we were besties or anything but we were pretty friendly we tried to lead by example in hopes that other werewolves and vampires would become friend which had mostly worked but of course there was still some hidden animosity between the two. "of course." he said smiling before his eyes narrowed a bit and he sniffed the air a little, "do you smell that" he asked sharply. "Smell what?" I asked. I sniffed the air but didn't smell any smoke or anything dangerous. He shook his head. "Never mind, shall we?" he said, gesturing to the seats. I shrugged and sat down. "Right, so I called this meeting to talk about the relationship between the wolves and vampires and some upcoming events," said Honders. He had three pamphlets sitting on his desk and handed me two of them while giving Elliot one. "There's an extra one for Alpha Mason there, so for the most part there haven't been any serious problems between vampires and wolves, but of course the two could be closer, so in hopes of bringing us closer together the school has scheduled some upcoming events for students to come out and have some fun, and I'd like you two and Mason to attend every event to lead by example and preferably hang out with each other, you know, really showcase the friendship between wolves and vampires," he said with an enthusiastic smile. I nodded. "Sounds good. I like this plan, and I'm sure my father will too," I agreed. "These are the dates for the events," Elliot asked, pointing at a section on the pamphlet. Honders nodded. Elliot took out his phone and began typing in his calendar app. "Alright then, was that all?" Elliot looked ready to leave despite his formal behavior and mannerisms; he didn't strike me as someone who liked to do work and go to meetings. He was probably itching to go home. Honders nodded. "Thank you both for coming out today, and welcome back. I hope you both enjoy your last year here before taking over your posts," he said, dismissing us. Elliot was out of the room before I even got out of my chair. I chuckled to myself and walked out of the office. As I walked back to my car, I glanced back at the elevator. I hoped I'd see Ryana at a party. As soon as I got to my car, I took out my phone and dialed Mason's number. He picked up on the third ring. "Hello-" "Mason, you're never going to believe this," I said. The drive back to my suite at the academy wasn't very far, maybe five minutes at most. The academy suites surrounded the main campus, and the main building was right in front of the campus. "What's up? How did the meeting go? It wasn't about anything serious, was it?" he asked. He was supposed to be the one who went to the meeting this morning, but he's not exactly an early riser, so after four failed attempts at waking him up this morning, I just decided to go in his stead and called Principal Honders, letting him know about the change. "No, it was fine. He just wanted to tell us about some events that the school is planning and ask if we can attend them with Elliot" "Oh, that's it. Well, what will I not believe then" I pulled up in front of the gate to our suite, and the guard posted in front opened the gate. I quickly got out of the car and opened the door with my badge and my physical key. When I walked in, Mason was sitting in the living room shirtless, eating a bowl of cereal. "Oh, hey, you're here already, what-" I cut him off, holding up my hand. "I think I just met our mate."
