Elara pov
My mate is an Alpha, I can’t deny it, I feel the bond between us. It’s undeniable and overwhelming.
“Mate!, mate.” Sapphire screamed in my head.
“Girl could you calm down seriously.” Sapphire snorted and let out a loud growl. “GO TO OUR MATE NOW.”
“Whatever” I said, don’t get me wrong I do want my mate but I highly doubt this is the chance to go blindly running to him. I mean I’m a rogue who clearly trespassed into his territory.
Suddenly a loud menacing growl was heard that literally caused me to stumble backwards in fright. Then he spoke, his voice was low, calm and lethal.
“Take her to the dungeon.” He said looking towards his beta and just like that my stomach dropped and sapphire whimpered, I wouldn’t blame her though. Our mate didn’t bother to acknowledge us as his. I can’t believe I waited all this years longing for a mate just so the moon goddess could pair me up with a complete jerk.
“Well thanks a lot moon goddess”
I blinked, hurt flashing through me, but my lips curved into a smirk.
“Oh wonderful.” I said aloud my voice dripping with mock cheer. Lucky me, truly lucky.
Sapphire stirred uneasily beneath my skin.
“Why isn’t he acknowledging us?.” Sapphire asked.
“Doesn’t he feel the mate bond.” She whispered, her voice raw with hurt.
“I don’t know sapphire.” I murmured under my breath, “maybe he doesn’t.” But even as the words left my mouth, it tasted like a lie.
“He’s our mate.” She said softly, almost pleading, “he’s supposed to feel us.”
“I know”
The words came out quieter than i expected. Sapphire curled into herself, wounded, hurt and went silent cutting off our mind link and somehow that hurt me far worse.
I lifted my sass as a shield even as my chest ached. I let out a breath, eyes fixed on him and I cleaned my fist pissed. He held my gaze, his jaw tightening slightly as his pupils flashed green, and he growled.
That wasn’t just anger
His wolf was pushing forward.
A low growl rumbled faintly in his chest, confused I shifted slightly, following the direction of his gaze. His beta stiffened under my mates glare, they were clearly using their mind link.
There was tension between them and just like that he turned back and walked away without a glance as if the mere sight of me irritated him.
“Nice first impression by the way, really warm and welcoming.” I thought to myself.
“You need to come with me.” The beta who I still don’t know his name said as he lead me towards my new suite( the dungeon). The dungeon smelled of damp stone and iron, the beta lead me into one of the cells, bounding my hands with silvers chains. He walked out of the cell, locking it before heading out.
It’s been freaking 2 days since I’ve been in this nasty and filthy dungeon, two days since I found out that Alpha ass was my mate and also two days since sapphire disappeared. I found out that mean looking beta’s name was kael and sadly that was all I knew, besides coming down to bring food he didn’t say much.
The door slammed open and I heard footsteps coming, the beta or should I say Kael came into view.
“Well”, I muttered, shifting against the cold wall, the silver chains clinking around my wrist ”look who finally remembered I exist.”
His eyes flicked to me briefly before he walked closer, “the alpha will be with you shortly.”
I snorted “ oh good. I was worried he forgot to interrogate the dangerous rogue chained in his dungeon.” Kael ignored the sarcasm like he’d probably done a thousand times.
“Try not to make it worse for yourself”, he said flatly.
“Worse?” I lifted my chained hands slightly, “ you mean like this?.”
For a moment, I thought I saw the corner of his mouth twitch, but it disappeared just as quickly. Heavy footsteps echoed down the dungeon corridor before he could reply, I smelt him even before he appeared. My wolf stirred restlessly inside me.
“Mate” she said.
“Well it’s good to see you too sapphire.” I replied rolling my eyes. She has been gone for two days and the first thing she cares about is her alpha ass of a mate.
The second he stepped into the view, my stomach twisted.
Kael stepped aside respectfully.”Alpha”.
My mate not looking away from me, “leave us.”
Kael nodded once and disappeared, the dungeon doors shutting behind him with a heavy thud. Silence fell between us, his gaze then swept over the chains around my wrist and back to my face.
“You trespassed into my territory.” He said calmly, though the tension in his jaw betrayed his anger.
I leaned back against the wall, raising my eyebrow, “your trees didn’t exactly have a welcome sign.” I said with a smirk.
His eyes darkened
“This is a pack land”
“And?” I shrugged “last I checked, walking through the woods isn’t a crime.”
“It is” he said, “when you’re a rogue crossing an alpha’s border.” He spat in disgust causing sapphire to whimper softly feeling hurt. I know, I’m hurting inside as well, but I can’t let him see it.
“So what now?” I asked
“Your going to keep me in your lovely dungeon forever? Or is there some dramatic alpha speech coming?.” I added
His wolf pushed against the surface, I could feel it through the bond.
“You’re awfully bold for someone in chains” he said and I smirked ignoring the burn from the silver chains.
“And you’re awfully dramatic for someone who threw his mate in a dungeon.”
That hit
His eyes flashed with something dangerous, before I could even blink he was across the bars and in front of me, his hands grabbing me by the neck and hauling me up the grounds like I weighed nothing. My back hit the cold wall with a sharp thud, the impact knocking the air from my lungs. A low threatening growl vibrated from his chest, his grey eyes were darker now, making it known to me that the anger was coming from him not his wolf. If someone told me my mate could hurt me this bad, I would have never believed them, i always imagined the bond between i and my mate to be just like mom and dad’s, beautiful and perfect.
“Don’t test me, do you think this is a joke?.” He growled, his voice rough and dangerous. I swallowed, but forced my expression to stay calm.
“Depends” I said slightly breathless but still smirking.
“Are you always this dramatic or is this just for rogue?.” I asked, I won’t let him get the satisfaction he wants from seeing me weak.
His grip tightened.
Another growl rumbling through him.
“You crossed my borders” he said, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper.
“You ignored the patrol lines” he added, his face moving closer to mine, his breath warm against my skin. My heart pounded, but I refused to let him see it.
I said slowly,” maybe your patrol lines just aren’t as impressive as you think.” Well in my defense I was too distracted to notice the patrol lines.
“You’re texting my patience” he warned.
I raised an eyebrow
“And you’re invading my personal space.” I replied
His eyes flicked to my lips for half a second before snapping back to my eyes.
Dangerous
Conflicted
Angry
“Answer the question.” He demanded
“Why.were.you.In.my.territory?.” I gave him my sweetest, most infuriating smile and said “if I say I got lost, are you going to believe me?”, but the look on his face said absolutely not and he still hadn’t let go of my neck.
I let out a quiet laugh, but it sounded hollow even to my own ears.
“You know” i muttered, looking away from him.
“This isn’t exactly how I imagined meeting my mate.” I said and his grip loosened slightly.
Just slightly.
“I thought.” I continued softly, staring at the wall besides his shoulders “there would be warmth, maybe happiness.”
“But instead” I whispered, lifting my chained wrist, the silver biting into my skin “I got chains.” I said looking into his eyes and for the first time since we met he didn’t look angry or irritated.
He looked conflicted.
I forced a smile, though it didn’t reach my eyes. His hands finally dropped from my neck as I saw guilt and regret flick through his eyes but It disappeared as quickly as it came. The sudden loss of his hold made my legs wobble but I stayed standing, barely.
For a moment he stared at me.
“I didn’t mean to cross your border, I didn’t want to be here” I said, my voice smaller now, “ and I also didn’t ask for a cold hearted mate.” I said screaming at him.
Then something in his expression hardened, “And I” he said coldly, his voice like ice.
“didn’t ask for a filthy rogue as a mate”.
Those words hit me harder than the chains around my wrist, my wolf went completely still. I swallowed forcing myself not to react, not to let him see how deep his words cut.
“Good” I said quietly, even though my chest felt tight “looks like we’re both disappointed.”
The silence that followed was unbearable. Then he turned.
Without another word.
Without another glance.
He walked out, the dungeon doors slamming shut behind him.
And for the first time in two days.
I let the tears fall.
